Reminders for Year-End Charitable Giving

First Presbyterian Church of Orlando will be closed
Monday, December 25 and Tuesday, December 26 for
the Christmas holiday, and January 1, 2018 for the New
Year's holiday.
Delivered gifts received on or before 12/31 will be
recorded as a 2017 contribution.
Mailed gifts with a postmark of 12/31 or earlier will be
treated as a 2017 contribution regardless of the delivery
date.
Online gifts initiated prior to midnight 12/31 will be
recorded as a 2017 contribution.
If you prefer to donate an asset, like appreciated stock
or mutual funds, try to plan a little ahead of prior
years and make your donation by 12/29/17. Brokerages
are closed on the weekend, and any giving transfer on
12/31/2017 might be recorded on the next business day, or
a 2018 tax date.
If you are considering giving appreciated stock or mutual
funds, a direct charitable IRA distribution, or appreciated
real estate, please contact Tom Levesque, Director

processed properly and send you a tax receipt in a timely

CONGREGATIONAL CARE

TRADITIONAL WORSHIP

Generally speaking, we try to chose the carols that

speak more specifically of the birth of Christ in the last
two Sundays of Advent as we get closer to Christmas
Day. O Come, All Ye Faithful is one of those. However,
with todays Wonder of Christmas turning our attention
to the Incarnation, our opening carol is O Come, All
Ye Faithful. Of particular note is the second verse,
which is one of the strongest incarnational texts of
all the Christmas carols. The opening lines are almost
verbatim of the Nicene Creed. (This creed is number
15 in our new hymnal.) As for the closing carol, when
was the last time you learned a new Christmas carol?
The text for Long Ago, Prophets Knew was written in
1970. The tune comes from the 16th century and may
be somewhat familiar. Like the opening carol, the
second verse points to the wonder of the incarnation.
Advent is a season about waiting, waiting for the birth
on one hand, and the return of the Lord in the bigger
picture. But the last line of each verse points to the
Lords waiting. Who will make Him welcome? We live
in a world that has largely rejected Him, yet the Lord
has welcomed us to worship this day and as the Body of
Christ. He is present among us.

On this second Sunday in Advent our attention is turned
toward the wonder of the Incarnation. How is it that the
Creator of the universe would take on human flesh and be
born in an obscure village in Israel?

Reader:
But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah (pronounced
Eh-fruh-thuh), though you are small among the clans of Judah,
out of you will come for me, one who will be ruler over Israel
whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.
