GENERAL DESCRIPTION 

1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Multitrans units constitute the measuring basic element for electric bays.

There are different models that differ in some hardware or functional aspects. The Firmware is loaded in the unit through the
serial port, which makes the versions updating easier.

This manual does not correspond to a certain multitrans model, but it refers to the whole family. For each particular model, only
its physical and functional characteristic would be applied.

1.1.1 Characteristics of the measurements

The simple voltage measurements in the V-I models corresponds to the 3 phase voltages and the average voltage; while
in the V-V models, it corresponds to the 4 measurements of the voltage (phase A and B of each side of the breaker).

The measurement takes 15 harmonic into consideration.

The ranges and characteristics of the measurements depend on the model and the baud rate (see Table 2).

The measurements of available V and I depend on the type of the wiring diagrams:

 Wiring diagram A. The simple voltages (Va, Vb, Vc), currents of the three phases (Ia, Ib, Ic) and ground are
calculated. The compound voltages are calculated from them.
 Wiring diagram B. The three compound voltages (Vab, Vbc, Vca) and the currents of the three phases (Ia, Ib, Ic)
and ground are measured. Simple voltages are not avilable.
 Wiring diagram D. The three compound voltages (Vab, Vbc, Vca) are measured. Simple voltages are not avilable.
Phase Ia current is measured. The currents of the Ib and Ic phases are calculated from Ia (balanced system).
 Wiring diagram E. The simple voltage of the phase Va and the current of the phase Ia. The Vb and Vc
voltagesare calculated from Va and the currents of the Ib and Ic phases are calculated from Ia (balanced
system). The compound voltages are calculated from them.

 Wiring diagram F. The compound voltage Vab and the current and the current of the phase Ic. The Vbc and Vca
voltagesare calculated from Vab and the currents of the Ia and Ib are calculated from Ic (balanced system).
Simple voltages are not avilable.
The maximum voltage and current scale range is 150% of the rated value. It may be limited to 120% of the rated
value by control measures. This limitation is effected by parameters. The rated value of the currents is definite, in
accordance with the model, whilst the rated voltage value can be set within a range, depending on the model.

The voltage and current backgound scale is the 150% of its nominal value. The nominal value of the currents is fixed
depending on the model; whereas the nominal value of the voltage can be configured within ta range depeneding on
the model.

The phase voltage and currents are measured with a 0.2 accuracy class (according to IEC688:1992), within the range
indicated in Table 2.

The power measurements are calculated from the measured voltages and currents.

There are four energy counters available: positive active, negative active, positive reactive, negative reactive.

The individual harmonic measurements of the unit must exceed a minimum valie of 4 mA for In=1A and of 20 mA for
n=5A. The total right value of the harmonics must be higher than 6mA for In=1A and at 30mA for In=5A.

The voltage unit individual harmonic measurements must exceed minimum values of 550 mV for units with baudrate
of 120V and 950 mV for units with baudrate 220V. The total right value of the harmonics must be higher than 800
mV for baud rate of 120V and 1,4V for baud rate of 220V.

In Figure 1 the terminal disposal of the terminals is shown in the two available options.

In the following graphics, the multitrans configurations according to the selected V-I or V-V option are shown.

If none of these prefixed configurations is used and if other analogue inputs are wired to the unit, the measurement of these
inputs will be given, but they will not have association to phases, so, all the measurements expecting a concrete connection
as powers, energies, unbalance... will give no-valid values. Only the trafo simple measurements will be valid.

The general rear view of the TCP-IH with multitrans is shown in the Figure 5. This view will change depending on the TCP
configuration: number of inputs, outputs, type of communication ports...

The specific connection of the meter is located in the right lower side, depending on the available terminal type (closed and
pin-type).

part, are shown, and it indicates the numbering corresponding to each of the trafos as they are used in the
interconnection diagrams.

In the closed terminals only the current and voltage terminals are modified, remaining the rest of the terminals equal.

In Figure 6, the numbering of the closed terminals, highlighting the numbering of the voltage terminals start in
number 11, terminals 9 and 10, associated to terminals 9 and 10 associated to the non-existing trafo 5, are
numbered.

The available measurements in the different multitrans models depend on the model. In Table 4, all the available
measurements, its procome situation, the background scale and the models that include. The transmitted meausurements are
of 2 bytes with the format:

If the I and/or V signals do not correspond with this assignation, the measurements associated to the trafo will be
calculated and indicated in the measurement corresponding to that trafo, but the power, unbalance and compound

For voltage and current measurements in procome, it is possible to use a scale range of 1.2 instead of the 1.5 range
indicated in the previous table. By monitoring the multitrans function the value of the
"FONDO_MEDIDAS_PROCOME_12" parameter can be altered. When the parameter is 0, the voltage and current scale
range is 1.5. By changing the parameters value to 1, the scale range will be 1.2 times the rated value. This parameter
only affects the voltage and current measurements and only when they are sent by communications in the procome
control message.

3.2 ENERGY COUNTERS

They correspond to the primary of the measurement transformers, so there are parameters that indicate transformatio ratio of
the voltage and current trafos.

The measurement is given as the number of pulses. There is a programmable parameter that indicates the number of
kWh/pulse for the active energy counters, and another kVARh / pulse for the reactive energy counters.

So, the settings related to the energy counters are:

Application example:

A 1500kWh burden measurement will read 1500 pulses for an active energy constant of 1 kWh primary / pulse. The Reading

4. UNIT CONFIGURATION
The unit configuration setting can be accessed through the Sipcon console.

The settings are stored in non-volatil memory; however, when sending collective to the unit, the settings are lost so they have to
be configured again.

4.1 GENERAL SETTING CONFIGURATION

The settings defined below configure the multitrans.

Frequency: it may be 50 Hz or 60 Hz. It is a really importantsetting in the unit. It is not suitable for the measurements, the
results will be wrong
Transformatio ratio: they are only used for measurements referred to the primary. The phase current ratio is associated to the
measurements of the 1, 2 and 3 trafos; the one of the ground to the trafo 4 and the phase voltage ratio is associated to the
measurements of the 6, 7 and 8 trafos.

Nominal voltage: it is the nominal simple voltage. It fixes the measurement background scale of the measurements which will
be 120% of the nominal.

Connection type: It indicates the connection types of voltages and currents.

Energy counters: Active (kWh) and Reactive (kVARh). Indicate the pulses for the increasing of the energy counters.

Background scale: For active, reactive and apparent powers. The measurement background scale is allowed to be configured.

4.2 MEASUREMENT CONFIGURATION

The transmitted measurement and the order in which they are transmitted can be programmed among those available. The
programming is carried out through the SIPCON/P Protection Console.

Table 4 shows the measurement to be treated. Each model will only be applied the measurements corresponding to the
available measurements. The indicated background scale corresponds to a count number of 4095.

4.3 FIRMWARE LOAD

The Firmware is loaded in the multitrans for communications, which makes the version updating easier.

TES TING
The protections are supplied in special packing material for transport.

Upon reception, they should be checked for any signs of external damage caused during transport; if so the transport firm and
manufacturer should be contacted.

The material received should also be checked to see if it coincides with the order number.

If the protection is not going to be used immediately, it should be stored in its original packing material and in a dry and dirt-free
place.

The unit transport must be carried out in its original packaging.

5.1 WIRING PROCEDURE

The protection connecting procedure should be carried out in accordance with the connection diagram, indicated in the
corresponding section.

Earthing connection

It is important for the earth connection to be correctly connected, in order for the protection disturbance rejection devices it
incorporates to operate properly. The connection should be as short as possible (less than 25 cm.) using multiwired cable

5.2 COMISSIONING

Units are received with the default settings stipulated in the factory.

Before commissioning they must be measured, by means of the keyboard/display and/or PC, with the correct values for the
application, following the set procedures.

The protection has been checked at the factory premises in order to guarantee its precision in all of the setting points of the
different parameters. However, it is convenient to test some points during reception and commissioning, in order to ensure it
is totally in proper operating condition.

Once the line is connected the real measurements the relay is carrying out can be displayed, thus enabling you to check for
proper connection and operation.

5.3 RECEPTION TESTS

5.3.1 Material needed

Three-phase voltage and current recorder generator with variable frequency of <0.5.

Recorder timer with voltage or current injection pick up with accuracy <0.001s.

5.3.2 Measurement test

The measurement range can be up to 1.5 times of the nominal value in currents and voltages.

The measurements are carried out by injecting voltages and currents in one phase and checking, in the console, that
only that phase has a value different to zero and that is within the defined margins.

This test must be carried out for all the phases, being the measurements displayed in the console.

The points to be tested have to be chosen by the worker who is going to carry out the test, but those bellow are
recommended.
