1. Demographics.
The United States and Canada both have capitalist economic systems. They are in the same
economic group.
2. Economic Development.
Economic development in North America is very advanced compared to other parts of the world.
North America is in stage 4 of the Demographic Transition Model, which means they have a
slow, stable natural increase, a low death rate and a low birth rate. Women contribute to the
economy, so North America has twice the working population as regions where women do not
work as much. Because women are busy with their careers, they tend to have less children and
better family planning. North America has one of the highest GNIs in the world because of its
capitalist economy. The life expectancy in North America is high because the region has
enough food, money, water and healthcare services to keep the older population alive and
healthy.

5. Population Pyramids.
The age span of the older generations from 1950 to 2017 grew significantly from 80
years to 100 years because of the betterment of medicine and healthcare services. In 2100, the
percentage of people in the 100+ age category grew by .4%. In 1950, there was a very large
population of young children, the baby boomers that sprang up after World War II. There is also
a small population of elderly people, a trend which remains all the way to 2100. North America
is in stage 4 of the Demographic Transition Model because the amount of people in each age
group from 0-4 to 65-69 is relatively consistent.
6. Economic Issues.
1. A major ongoing issue in the Western United States, primarily California, is the
reoccurance of highly destructive wildfires. The effects of these disasters have made this
issue an issue economically as well. Inhabitants of certain areas continue to settle in
grassy landscapes near large forests prone to fire. This idea has been continuously
proven to be a bad idea, yet nobody is willing to change this pattern or move away from
these areas. This is an issue because people living in these areas can cause major fires
due to human error, or natural accidents may happen. Both pertain to the close quarters
humans keep with these wildfire prone areas. The economic toll these fires have on the
branches of power in these areas are far from minimal. The damages many of these
fires cause are out of the realm of our imaginations, and the costs to redevelop the areas
affected are very large. The money put towards redeveloping housing and vegetation in
these areas is large, along with the cost put towards prevention, has taken somewhat of
a toll on government spending. Another economic impact these have had are that
legislatures are beginning to pass bills pertaining to the way the state and its counties
share the cost of fighting these disasters, one being the Utah legislature. The goal of
these bills is to increase peoples interest in limiting fire vulnerable areas before its too
late.
2. Droughts have been an issue plaguing the Western US for many years. They have only
been getting longer and more severe of late. And while some Western states are not
experiencing drought, most of them are vulnerable to it. The increased vulnerability is
due to intensely fluctuating precipitation. As if these fluctuating precipitation numbers
arent low enough, they appear as if they will get worse in the years to come. These long
and hard droughts can cost the affected areas tons of money. An example being the
approximately 2.2 billion dollars in economic losses in 2014 that California was expected
to endure due to the delay in agricultural activities. But California is just an example. This
issue is something that all of the Western US is going through. Not only are the things
that these droughts are doing to us directly costing us money, but the major effects that
they have on our land can also cost legislature and government tons of money. The
indirect consequences of these droughts seem to have become just as bad as the direct
consequences, which is not a good sign.
3. Not everybody on our planet is as rich as the movie stars or the athletes of the world.
There are multiple different social classes, each being able to afford a different tier of
house. That statement may be more arguable now, and recently, with the inflation of
home costs in the US Western states. Homes are becoming so expensive that even
middle class people are struggling to afford them and be able to pay taxes along with
that. This inflation in home cost rates have negatively affected schools, as children who
could be paying to attend dont have a house to live in, and raising the regions
unemployment rates significantly. That main affect that this new housing cost has on
people, and the way the economy is indirectly affected as well, is something that has
been lingering for some time now, and something should be done.
