Research Paper Outline

Intro:

To respond to a reading is an important factor when it comes to understanding a piece of writing,

Responding to a reading engages a student with the reading and invites a student to make con-

nections. In a class made up of the majority multilingual students, there will be readings that are

more beneficial than others.

Thesis:

Readings like "What is a multilingual writer?" are readings that give deep explanation and work-

ing methods that will benefit others. Compared to readings like Reading and Writing Without

Authority which do not make influential connections with the audience, shape the writing of

students, and do not convey a strong learning lesson.

- Briefly summarize, give background information on both of the readings

P: Students encounter countless amounts of articles and readings each year, among those many

readings only a few of them manage to leave a great remark on these students, a connections.

I: *Include quote from What is a ml writer?

E: Explain quote used

P: As seen in the quote from What is a ml writer?, connections are made because of the content

and what is being discussed relates to a large group of people. The article states facts, but it also
contains emotions which is something the article Reading and Writing Without Authority does

not contain.

I: *Include quote from Reading and Writing Without Authority

E: When an article contains a surplus of fact after fact and based of data, it loses its sense of

emotional and relativeness connection. A student can grasp so much more from a reading they

connect to and can comfortably expand on rather than something data-based.

P: From forming a connection with the reading comes shaping ones own writing. For a piece of

writing to mold the writing of another is a concept not every author can pursue through their

writing.

I: * Include quote from What is a ml writer?

P: On the other hand, it seems as though the author from Reading and Writing Without Authori-

ty attempts to share the data she collected so her audience can follow after Roger and not do

what the younger student did; in hopes of shaping the future writing of students.

I: *Include quote from Reading and Writing Without Authority

E: For a piece of writing to shape anothers writing, there has to be elements and guidelines of-

fered that a students will take in and apply to their own writing. *Expand/explain on quotes

P: Just as any person in the intended audience would expect, and the purpose of every author,

there is a learning lesson to every reading.

I: Include quote from What is a ml writer?

E: A students that can relate to the contents carried in What is a ml writer? can very much

agree that the lesson here is to be patient with oneself and to not change ones writing. Many mul-

tilingual writers confront hardships with assimilation to the American writing, from the reading

they can take that just because they cannot relate to the American writing in colleges, they do not

have to change their own.

P: When it comes to the content of Reading and Writing Without Authority, yes a student can

take a thing or two from the reading; but to a really grasp a notion that can be applied to present

writing and taken to other courses, not very likely.

I: *Include quote from Reading and Writing Without Authority

E: As stated previously, Reading and Writing Without Authority solemnly states data and evi-

dence of what it is like to write with and without authority, and what happens when one reads

and writes without authority. A student, or any other writer can gain the knowledge of the impor-

tance of what it is to write with authority and the strength authority can give to any writing they

may take on.

P: Furthermore, between these two readings, it can be clearly seen that some readings are more

important than others.

E: It is not to say that Reading and Writing Without Authority is a horrid and useless writing,

but not much can be taken from this writing and not much can be carried out to other courses.

One can argue that "What is a multilingual writer? was only intended for a specific kind of au-

dience, but anyone can take certain notions from it to be applied to present and future writing.
Conclusion:

Throughout the course of college education and beyond, people will come face to face with

many writing and will be introduced to many different flavors of writing, but some make a big-

ger impact than others. Truthfully, one can say that some writing are more important than others.

More elements can be taken from one writing compared to another, this regards the influential

connections being made with the reading, how much of an affect has been on ones own writing,

and the notions grasped by the end of the reading. It all comes down to the personal experiences

one feels towards the writing and whether one can pursue the notions expected from the author

on to other courses.
