with a social worker, pharmacist, a medical student and another nurse as well. Not only did I
develop and experience my intra professional skills, but I also was able to learn and develop
interviewing skills with our mentor. Our mentor, Mrs. B tells of her well-seasoned life from
Mrs. B first came to the assistant living facilities with her husband whom were married
for over fifty years, her husband was admitted to the hospital part of the campus due to chronic
puenomina but died two months later from sepsis. Mrs. B started out with this part of her life
because she thought we should know that she never planned on living in an old folks home and
wanted to be completely independent with no help from others. Through this first part of the
interview it allowed me to see how strong willed and independent Mrs. B is and plans on being.
Mrs. B although little, presents a strong presence with eyes that are filled with light and energy.
Throughout the interview with the social workers one could easily tell how proud Mrs. B was
with the people she has around her and in her life. Mrs. Bs apartment is filled with pictures of
members of her family from her children to her sisters and great grandchildren Mrs. B has a lot
of love and support in her life but, not only outside of the facility. Mrs. B has developed a close
relationship with other residents, nurses and has acquired a boy friend since living in the facility.
The first interview of Mrs. B went off without a hitch, not only was she open and truthful about
the event that she has gone through but also included detailed stories from past memories that
brought joy to our whole group. During the first interview, the social worker was placed in
charge and was required to obtain answers to certain questions while interviewing their mentor.
Our group just happened to have three social workers that contributed so much knowledge and

different points of view on subjects we talked about. The social worker helped to keep a big
picture going within the group, while most of the medical and nursing students put forth
questions for more details ad often asked the question of why. This allowed the group to obtain
a vast amount of information covering all topics and not just concepts that deal with the medical
field.
The IPEDs experience in Live Oak Pavilion was and encouraging event. As future
nurses collaboration between nurses, pharmacist, doctors and social workers are a vital part of
the everyday job and through this experience I was able to work with these students to obtain a
common goal, the overall best health for another. As a nurse I was able to contribute knowledge
of the patients condition while still thinking and advocating for the patients best interest and
outcome. When collaborating on a case study it was exciting to see that the nurses in my group
presented knowledge on medication, the diagnoses and the patients condition that the others
might have overlooked. But the most exciting part was being included in the entire process, as a
nurse all one wants to do is help others and being able to participate in a theoretical case study
brought excitement to everyone in the group for what is to come in the future.
The IPED experience at Live Oaks Pavilion and the SAGE visit allowed a knowledgeable
insight to what is in store in the future. With a collaborative case study, developing a plan of
action and establishing what is best for the patient made the whole experience feel like a real-life
event. The SAGE visit was interesting to see because everyone focused on a different aspect of
her life while being fully involved and interested in everything that she told us. Overall both
experiences were enlightening to what I can look forward to and expect as a future nurse.
