Today we are talking about collaboration in the corporate world, and

the tools that have increased our ease of access and productivity.

What Web Based tools are there for collaboration in the Work Place?

So What is collaboration, and why is it important?

Merriam Websters dictionary defines collaboration as to work jointly with

others or together especially in an intellectual endeavor Collaboration is a

team of people, putting their heads together to create something, or to

reach a common goal.

In what context can collaboration be useful?

Collaboration can be used in any team or group setting. In the corporate

world, collaboration can be teams meeting in a conference room, remotely

through an online meeting platform, through a video chat application, or

through an office application that has a note or messaging feature. Through

the development of Web 2.0 tools, our ability to use tools to increase our

productivity through collaboration has grown greatly.

What are some useful collaboration tools?

1. Zoom is one of the top leading products for online meetings. Its an all-in-

one collaborative tool where you can have 1 on 1 meetings, group meetings,

and share files all through the same application. This tool is accessible from

your desktop, tablet, or phone.

2. Google Drive is a cloud storage application with a word processor, slides

(like powerpoint), and sheets (like excel), and many other applications. This

application is useful for teams who work remotely because they can work

together on the same project and see real time updates from others.

3. Padlet is known as the paper of the web It is a place where people can

comment on a common topic, much like a bulletin board.

4. Slack is a cloud based collaboration tool that organizes every aspect of an

organization into one searchable database. All individuals associated with a

particular organization can use this tool to send notifications within the

company, and use keywords to search for topics. As an added plus, this

application works with many other web 2.0 tools

There is a growing need for collaboration in the corporate world. Many of the

tools that were mentioned here are used frequently in the workplace. As

more Web 2.0 tools are developed we will see more new and useful tools

produced.
