YT Lesson 8 Joshua part 3

The Book of Joshua

Recapping:

The Heavenly Pictorial ~ an Earthly Reality

As previously mentioned with the introduction to Joshua, it is taken for granted

that the reader has some understanding of the persons, places and subject matters of
the figurative message of the pictorial of the Eternal Covenant declared in the heavenly
revelation.

The sons of Israel of the household of Abraham had understanding of the

message of the stars with their signs and had in fact been taught this truth along with
the figurative pictorials of the ceremonial law. Thus it would have been unnecessary to
comment upon the details expressed in figure within the book of Joshua to a son of
Israel.

Of course, if you are not a son of Israel and have never been taught the figurative
message in the luminaries, nor have understanding of the figures of the ceremonial law
this could be a problem. Nonetheless, figurative expressions are a common tool of
communication that are used today and more readily acceptable then most realize.

For example: Modern Day Figurative Pictorials

When describing an object that is no longer functioning as intended we say it has

died meaning it is no longer working. However, as it was not living to begin with the
statement is without common sense and yet, because it is figurative we still have
understanding of that which is implied.

How about these: more examples of figurative expressions:

When someone is sad or ill, we might say they are blue or under the weather. Or ~ Im
green with envy, hes a snake, stubborn as a mule, shes slow as molasses.

Or as a friend said the other day they had an American Thanksgiving. There is
a lot of detail expressed in that one sentence. Again it was figurative, but clearly it was
understood what she meant.

The figurative message often uses colors and numbers giving a clearer picture
more than words can describe. All of that to say, once the message of the figurative is
understood, there is depth to be gleaned in the pictorial.

1
YT Lesson 8 Joshua part 3

For example: The Stalks of Flax

Joshua 2:6:

But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the
stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.

To modern day readers the flax is an interesting bit of information but what does
that have to do with the story other than she hid the spies under the stalks.

Flax ~ Figurative of Righteousness

Linen is made from the flax plant. Linen garments were worn by royalty and
priests. The fact that Rahab was drying flax on a roof top may indicate she was a pagan
priestess as she was one who came from an ite nation.

Figuratively within the language of symbolism in Scripture, linen speaks of

righteousness ~ an emblem of moral purity. With this understanding the sons of Israel
would equate the hiding of the spies under the flax with (1) the moral purity of the
righteousness of the Covenant Son and that the life of the spies (2) being made safe
from the destruction of death through resurrection on the basis of the Righteousness
offered in the Covenant Son.

The Heavens declare the Glory of God

The spies having been taught that the Heavens declare the Glory of God would
have understood the figurative message in the luminaries.

The figurative emblem of the righteousness of God is first declared in the stars
with their signs in Libra. Libra is the constellation depicting eternity past. Who is
declared in Eternity past? God is!

In the figurative message of the sign Libra, the Righteousness of God is declared
in the provision made by the Transaction of Propitiation to cover the nakedness of
man ~ so that man might become a son of God. Man without a garment of glory is
considered naked. This Righteous Transaction of Propitiation is seen as accomplished
in eternity past ~ before the creation of humanity.

Gods Seed of Righteousness ~ the birthed son of God come in the flesh is the
Transaction of Propitiation ~ He is the power of God unto salvation to deliver His
creation of humanity from the wages of sin ~ death (Romans 6:23).

The mortal temporary body of the creation of humanity designed to return to the
dust, is dead because of sin. The word for dead (Romans 8:10) has the meaning of a
corpse. Who brought in sin? Adam (Romans 5:12-21).

2
YT Lesson 8 Joshua part 3

Sin has the meaning of missing the true end and scope. Gods plan ~ His true
end and scope for His creation of humanity is that they might become sons of God ~
born again into the kingdom as kings and priests.

The creation of humanity are dead men walking awaiting the execution of
destruction ~ death ~ which is the wages of sin. Death has the rights and privilege to
destroy the mortal temporary seed body of flesh covering the man. The body, dead
because of sin, is owed the recompense of death ~ the body is owed destruction.

Delivered by Righteousness

Figured in the stars with their signs in the heavenly revelation and according to
the Scriptures, there are two resurrections. The resurrection of life and the resurrection
of the damned (John 5:29).

The mortal temporary seed body, dead because of sin, sown in corruption to
return to dust is to be restored to the condition of life in order to receive either the
resurrection of Eternal life ~ a body of glory like unto the Covenant Son or the
resurrection of the damned ~ the seed body raised to be destroyed in the second death.

As previously mentioned, Abraham had commanded his children and his

household after him the Way of the LORD ~ the figurative message of that which God
had taught him that night under the stars (Genesis 18:18,19; 15:5).

The sons of Israel, would have readily grasped the figurative message of the
spies hidden under the stalks of flax. Not to mention that because there were two spies
(two ~ the ordinal which speaks figuratively of witness) they would have understood ~
figuratively speaking that the two spies as sons of God were a witness to the love of
God as they rested in quiet confidence in the abundance of grace of the righteousness
of God.

The Hebrew Calendar

The stalks of flax in which Rahab hid the spies, declares the season of the year.
The harvest of flax ~ the cutting off of the life of the flax is in the 12th month ~ the month
of Adar in the spring ~ February/March. Meaning ~ the spies where hiding under the flax
in the spring ~ the 12th month, figuratively presenting the pictorial of the life of the
Covenant Son cut off in the spring.

Now when you think of the 12th month do you think spring or do you think winter?
We need to think eastern and Jewish not western and Christian. It helps to keep the
figures of the pictorial straight.

The 12th month is the month Adar. The name Adar means ~ Strength, Glorious.
The stars with their signs of Adar is Aquarius. The figurative message of the sign is the

3
YT Lesson 8 Joshua part 3

Record of Living Waters ~ the record of the Life Giver poured out for all nations and
people. This sign is not just for Israel ~ for God so loved the world

The Hebrew calendar is a lunar calendar, meaning that months are based on
the lunar phases, but years are based on the solar years. The planting and harvest
seasons are according to the lunar calendar.

Why you ask? Because of what the figurative message that the moon and the
seasons and the type of grain picture in regards to certain aspects of the plan of the
Eternal Covenant.

Time Frame in Joshua

Thus, the timing runs accordingly ~ Moses died at the end of the 11th
month/beginning of the 12th month. The children of Israel wept for him for 30 days
(Deuteronomy 34:8) and then on the 10th day of the 1st month the people came up out of
Jordan.

The 1st month ~ the month of Nisan means Banner, Standard, and a Miracle.
This is the month the people came up out of Jordan and this is the month the wheat
grain is harvested.

The sign associated with the 1st month is the sign of Pisces. Pisces figuratively
with its stars and signs expresses that the kingdom of God has come and the fishes of
the sea of humanity are under His Jurisdiction.

The seed grains of barley and wheat are planted at the same time. However,
barley is harvested first and then the wheat. Barley pictures Jesus come in the flesh and
then the Wheat, Jesus raised up the 1st begotten of God.

Figures of Barley and Wheat Grain

Figuratively in the language of symbolism the barley is considered the lowest of

the grains~ the least expensive, while the wheat is the most expensive.

Each seed grain is a figure of a seed body of flesh. The barley in figure is the
seed flesh of humanity ~ the seed flesh made in the image of God ~ the life form of that
body ~ blood.

Likewise, the wheat grain is also a figure of a seed body of flesh. The wheat is
the seed flesh of a son of God ~ the seed made in the image of God, after His likeness
~ flesh and bone ~ the life form of that body ~ spirit life ~ Eternal life.

4
YT Lesson 8 Joshua part 3

The Miracle Figured in Joshua

What is the miracle to be seen in Joshua? As the figure of seed time and harvest
clearly depicts ~ here is a miracle flown like a banner ~ standard: The 2nd generation
Israel under Joshua ~ barley grain were harvested wheat ~ a covenant people the
day the people that came up out of Jordan ~ on the 10th day of the 1st month. Buried in
death in the waters of the Jordan, they were resurrected in the land of promise
(Joshua 4:19).

Rahab the Justified

Rahab shares her faith with the two spies in Joshua 2:8-11 I know that the LORD
hath given you the land using the personal covenant keeping name of Jehovah. Rahab
then made a request of deliverance from the known destruction coming upon the city.

There is no place too dark that He cannot light up with His Presence of Life and
Love! Rahabs heart safely trusted in her salvation ~ Yahweh! He loves her and she
knew it! Where once ruled the arrogance of her haughty spirit of enmity in the pride of
self-esteem, there was a change of character.

In her submission to the LORD God to reign in her life by the gift of
righteousness given her in the Covenant Son she knows that Jericho will fall by the
judgment of the LORD.

Kindness for Kindness

Joshua 2:12-14:

Humbling herself under the mighty hand of God, the LORD extends His kindness to
the salvation of her fathers house by the deliverance from the destruction of Jericho.

As to the end result of her family, scripture is silent, but one cannot help but be
hopeful as to the power of Love to convict and convince them of their need of Eternal
life.

For Rahab personally, the blessings continue. Not only is there deliverance from
judgment of Jericho, she is delivered from sin and delivered from the power of death to
destroy the body having been made the righteousness of God in Christ ~ His Covenant
Son.

Figuratively clothed with a garment of righteousness through the Seed of the

Covenant Son, Rahab would one day wed a man named Salmon, who belonged to the
Kings tribe ~ Judah.

5
YT Lesson 8 Joshua part 3

As previously stated, Rahabs name is listed in the genealogical record of Jesus ~

the Son of the Covenant, the High Priest and Heir of the Kingdom of God (Matthew 1:5).

As with most genealogies listed in Scripture, the Kings genealogy recorded in

Matthew is referred to as genealogical compression. History can be told in varying
ways, through narrative, poetry, or genealogy.

Compression genealogies are designed as a means of retelling history. Instead

of single individuals succeeding each other, there is the unilinear descending of the
genealogy.

The Instructions of the Oath

Joshua 2:15-21:

With Rahab receiving the three Bs of the spies instructions ~ keep our
business to yourself, bind this line of scarlet in the window, and bring thy fathers
household unto thee, she let them down by the scarlet cord in the window.

Rahab is instructed not to utter her business with the spies (Joshua 2:14, 20).
Why? Because ~ the city is slated for destruction, they are enemies of God. This city is
one of the inheritances of Israel and they are not to offer peace (you can look back at
why they are slated for destruction). And Rahab is instructed that the spies will be
blameless of her oath if she does not follow their instructions.

The kindness that Rahab is asking for is seen of the spies not as a matter of
doing a good deed, but a matter of life and death. For the spies, this is serious
business and not to be entered into lightly, they know themselves to belong to Jehovah
and not to themselves. The city is slated for destruction and she has asked an oath of
the spies. The word translated oath has the meaning of sacred promise. An oath was
considered to be an unbreakable contract. This unbreakable contract ~ the sacred
promise the spies swear to keep was their lives for hers.
The Figurative Language of Color

Joshua 2:18a:

Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in
the window which thou didst let us down by there would be no mistaking the
household of Rahabs from the rest of city.
Just like all the other figures, there is the figure of color. Colors are a universal
language. The language of color as well as the first colors of the creation are seen in
the stars with their signs in the Eternal Covenant in the heavens.
The stars that the unaided eye can see vary in magnitude from principal stars of
minus 1 down to the 6th magnitude. Star positions depend upon the direction of the sun
according to the earths orbit.
6
YT Lesson 8 Joshua part 3

The colors of the star flash are white, red, blue, green, yellow and orange. The
covenant colors in the luminaries add life to the message revealed in the star names
with their signs.

Scarlet is a brilliant red color with a tinge of orange. In the spectrum of visible
light, and on the traditional color wheel, it is one-quarter of the way between red and
orange.
Red speaks of love. Red also speaks of the dust of the ground from whence the
body of man was formed and also bloodshed. Orange-red in Scripture speaks of the
Son of Righteousness ~ Gods Seed with healing in His wings (Malachi 4:2).

The Cord of the Scarlet Line

The scarlet line that the spies chose for Rahab to hang in the window, speaks, by
its color, of safety through sacrifice (Hebrews 9:19, 22). The Hebrew word used for
scarlet in the text can be translated crimson.

There are two definitions of the word used for scarlet in the scripture. One refers
to the color itself and the other refers to the worm from which the color is derived.

There is another word translated scarlet in the KJV but is actually the color
purple. The word used for scarlet in Joshua is referring to the color and not the worm;
however, due to the pictorial we will be considering the Crimson word used to dye the
fabrics red.

The Hebrew word translated cord is a masculine noun in Joshua 2:15 (H2256).
The word line is a feminine noun in Joshua 2:18, 21 (H8615).

Translated cord the word has many meanings depending on the context. The
word is used figuratively to speak of the cords of sin and death (2 Samuel 22:6-sorrows;
Psalm 18:4, 5-sorrows; Proverbs 5:22). It can even be translated destruction (Micah
2:10), also as pangs or sorrow in connection to childbirth (Isaiah 13:8; Jeremiah 13:21).
It is also used to describe a dividing line (2 Samuel 8:2; Amos 7:17).

The Hebrew word translated line is referring to a cord or a line made of bright
red thread with a tinge of orange. Figuratively the noun refers to hope and expectation.
It refers to an attitude of anticipation with the expectation that something will happen ~
i.e. the hope.

Due to the content of the text figuratively, the masculine noun referring to the
cord is speaking of the dividing line between the destruction of the city of Jericho and
the line of hope upon which Rahab was to hang her hope.

7
YT Lesson 8 Joshua part 3

Figuratively the feminine noun of the hope and expectation is The Seed of the
Woman ~ the Begotten Son of God. It is faith in Him, the only begotten Son of God that
the expectation of deliverance is available.

The Crimson Worm

The crimson color used to dye fabrics comes from a very special worm called the
Tolaath, which means Crimson worm or Scarlet. The crimson worm looks more like
a grub than a worm.

Grubs are larva ~ maggots. Thus, this maggot-looking worm, lowly in its
appearance, provides the rich color of scarlet ~ the color of love and sacrifice.

When it is time for the female Crimson worm to have babies (which she only
does once in her life) resulting with her death, she finds the trunk of a tree, a wooden
fencepost or stick.

She then attaches her body to that wood and makes a hard-crimson shell, so
strong and permanently stuck to the wood that the shell can never be removed without
tearing her body completely apart and killing her.

The Crimson worm lays her eggs under her body and the protective shell. When
the baby larvae hatch, they stay under the shell.

Not only does the mothers body give protection, but it also provides them with
food. The babies feed on the Living body of the mother.

As the mother Crimson worm dies, she oozes a crimson or scarlet red dye which
not only stains the wood she is attached to, but her young children as well.

After three days, the dead mother Crimson worms body loses its crimson color
and turns into a white wax which falls to the ground like snow.

Obviously without too much difficulty the figurative pictorial of the worm, ordinal
of three days and process of the color of the scarlet line is as clearly understood as the
scarlet line woven throughout the scripture.

Psalm 22:6; I am a worm (Tolaath), and no man; a reproach of men, and

despised of the people.

Such is the symbolism of the scarlet line. Deliverance from sin, deliverance from
death and deliverance from judgment. Life through sacrifice!

"By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had
received the spies with peace" (Hebrews 11:31).

YT Lesson 8 Joshua part 3

The Way to Jordan

Joshua 2:22-23:

And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until
the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but
found them not. So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and
passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell
them:

There are three different areas of locations mentioned in the first three chapters
of Joshua ~ Shittim, the fords and Jordan. Shittim is where the nation is camped
before the return of the spies.

The fords are the area where the kings men head in their pursuit of the spies
and Jordan is the area where the children of Israel lodged before they cross over
(Joshua 3:1).

The river's name in Hebrew is derived from the meaning "descend" or "flow
down" and its waters are valuable for irrigation. The Jordan is fed by many small
streams, with headwaters in Syria and Lebanon.

Deep and turbulent during the rainy season, the river is not navigable which is
evident as the kings men head in their pursuit of the two spies in the direction of the
fords. The fords is a place on land or in a river where a crossing can be undertaken.

Obviously, this must have been the same spot the spies used to cross over into
Canaan. However, after the spies receive Rahabs instructions they head the opposite
direction of the fords.

They went to high ground, the mountain, abiding figuratively in the heavenly
realm three days until the pursuers returned. Once the pursuers returned, the two spies
returned, descending from the mountain and passing over the fords and came to
Joshua lodging in Shittim.
Victory is the LORDS

Joshua 2:24:

Once in Shittim the spies declare the glory of the LORD telling Joshua how the
LORD has delivered into Israels hands all the land~

Even before Israel has crossed the Jordan~

Even before they have set the stones of remembrance in the Jordan and stones
of memorial in the land~

9
YT Lesson 8 Joshua part 3

Even before they have circumcised and partaken of the Passover in the land~

All future events, Israel declares All the inhabitants of the country do faint
because of us! The victory is the LORDS victory.

One-day Israel will die and be raised the Covenant People ~ born sons of God
(Isaiah 66:8).

I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my
mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there for,
behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people joy. And I will rejoice in
Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in
her, nor the voice of crying (Isaiah 65:9,18-19).

Joshua 3:1, 2:

Thus, the two verses ~ 1 and 2 of chapter 3 takes the reader back to verse 10&
11 of chapter 1.

This concludes the lesson ~ in preparation of the figurative pictorial of the next lesson
please read Joshua 3:3-5 and Exodus 25:1-22.
