Gout

Certain foods can aggravate gout. These include:

tinned fish (e.g. sardines, anchovies)

organ meats (e.g. liver, pancreas, brain, kidney)

alcohol (the major one)

fizzy, sugary soft drinks

Gout often occurs in males after they binge

drink in their late 20s or 30s. Beer is particularly

problematic. It is useful to recommend an increase in

water consumption. Since gout and hyperuricaemia

have a proven association with coronary artery

disease, a healthy heart prevention diet is advisable.
