2. Relay Talk System for SCADA Main Screen: Following is the main
screen of Relay talk system.
Facilities Provided: Following facilities are provided from the Relay-talk system.
Configurations: view and edit configuration, is explained in section 3.
Communication Test: This is a communication interface provided for any ASHIDA
relay.
IED specific Interface: IED specific interface is provide for ease of user.
IED List: All IEDs, which are loaded under this relay talk system, are briefly listed with
their status.
Relay event list: Combined events of all IEDs are listed here.
IED scan: Back ground scan of IEDs can be initiated or stopped.
System status bar: System status bar, displays communication status label, user level,
date, time, etc. Symbolic representations displayed in status bar are explained below.
Communication status: This status is refreshed all the time while background
processing.
Idle
Refresh
Broadcast
Figure 2.4 Communication status indication.
Port status: This will depict the status of serial port selected for communication
interface.
Communication settings: Which will allow to set various time outs, port selections, port
settings, user settings, various mode settings, etc.
Time synchronize Interval (Sec): This is the time at which all the IEDs/RTUs will be
synchronized with the Server PC time.
Port Refresh Interval (Sec): If the port is not available for connection the background
software will retry it to connect after this time interval.
Device Refresh Interval (Sec): Once the IED/RTU failed for communication it will be
marked as unhealthy for communication and wont to communicated again, as the time
will be wrested for unhealthy device query while scanning. This IED/RTU will be re-
communicated after the mentioned time interval.
Activate Control Operations: this will enable or disable the control operations. Basically
it blocks the control command being send to the IED/RTUs.
Debug Mode: Will display some of the debugging messages.
Commtest specific settings: This will specify the port settings used for actual
communication.
Default serial port settings: This will specify the serial port, along with which splitter path
(if applicable, default 1) to be used, when the relay talk system starts.
Log data: While debugging, sometimes transmit, receive data need to be logged for
analysis. Recommended to set is off.
Default ID settings: Default relay addresses for various IEDs, are provided here.
Common settings: These are higher level settings such as CT,PT Primary/Secondary.
kVMode: It will change the display mode of parameters as explained in the Note.
CT PT Settings: CT and PT primary and secondary values are set here, depending on
these values, parameter values are scaled.
Serial Port Settings: These are communication interface related settings. There are 10
predefined ports, which can configure. These ports can be enabled or disabled depending
on their usage. These predefined ports are then used for interfacing with IEDs/RTUs.
Depending on hardware specifications, Serial Port can be configured for any one of the
following:
General Settings:
Echo Back: When the port will return echo for transmitted command this option need
to be set. Which will match the echo characters and then validate the response.
Include per character delay: this is the delay introduced between character
transmission.
Round Trip delay: This is the maximum wait period for first character to receive from
secondary device after command is sent.
Per char. delay: This is the delay between receiving characters.
Modem Settings:
Use Modem: Set this if communication is through Modem.
Dial String: Mention the dial Text (telephone no. etc.) which will dial the modem and
enable CD.
Init. String: Initializing string for modem initialization.
Connect String: Mention the telephone no. etc. if connection is through telephone
lines.
Connect Time-out: This is the maximum wait period for connection to establish.
Disconnect Time-out: This is the maximum wait period for disconnection.
Modem Time-out: This is the maximum wait period for modem to output the
response.
RTS (Request To Send) Settings: This will be set if modem connected to the serial
port requires RTS signal.
RTS Status: RTS can be set for any one of the following options.
Always OFF
Always ON
ON while Transmitting
RTS On delay: If RTS need to be enabled then this will provide the mentioned delay.
RTS Hold delay: RTS will be hold ON till this mentioned time.
General Settings:
Round Trip delay: This the maximum wait period for first character to receive from
secondary device after command is sent.
Per char. delay: This is the delay between receiving characters.
Packet to packet delay: This is the delay between two packets.
Protocol Settings:
UDP: User Datagram Protocol for connectionless applications.
TCP: Transfer Control Protocol for connection based applications.
General Settings: These are the general port settings and do not depend on the
communication port.
Splitter Settings:
Use Splitter: If multiple protocols are connected on a single port then we need to use
Splitter, which will switch between the two communication channels but on the same
port. If such hardware is connected then set use splitter.
Splitter Settings: There are few splitter hardware specific settings.
ID
Command
response
Splitter Path: Splitter can support multiple path depending on Hardware
specifications.
Protocol Settings: Ports are configured for Different Communication Protocols these are
user settable and can be set here. These protocol settings are as per splitter paths.
Different Protocols are mentioned below
ASCADA
IEC 60870-5-103
CMC
MODBUS RTU/ASCII
Few Protocol specific Time-outs are displayed in figure 2.2
Scan Time: Back ground communication software is refreshed after predefined interval
this interval is set here. It s in milliseconds.
Num Reconnect Retry: If the port is not available for communication the software will
retry to open the port for connections. The retry count is to be mentioned here.
Settings: Serial Port, splitter path used for communication is displayed above. Relay
address is provided for selection.
IED Search: IEDs search facility is provided.
Send Command: User defined command can be transmitted to the IED, corresponding
response is displayed in the output box along with communication status
ADITYA series relay: Relay talk system provides interfaces for two protocols one is
ASCADA and another is ADITYA now revised to ADITYAV2. Switching between this is
provided on the screen.
Expected Bytes: For ASCADA protocol, need to mention the number of expected bytes
from response.
Transfer Bytes: Apart from ASCII command, if some characters are to be transmitted
after the command, they can be typed here in their decimal values.
