tool 2.. Login by clicking login on the top right corner of the screen
3.. *Before using the tool the instructor has to log in or create an
account for the students using their email if the students are under 12*
4.. After signing up be sure to choose the free plan on the left of the new
screen and click sign me up
5.. You will now see a white screen with a blue dialogue box in the
center of the scree, from that box an arrow will be point to a smaller box
reading make new popplet
6.. Click that button.
7.. The next screen will have introductory feature to your popplet such
as the title and what color you want your popplet to be.
8.. You are now ready to create and design your popplet.
9.. The instructions provided by the website are very thorough.
10.. New bubbles in your popplet are created by randomly clicking
anywhere on your blank screen.
11.. From those bubbles you will have the option of incorporating
pictures, words, and linking your bubbles.

Ideas for how the Using first grade


tool can be used History SOL 1.1- The student will interpret information presented in picture
in PK-12 timelines to show sequence of events and will distinguish among past, present,
and future. The students can use three different bubbles to each
represent the past, present, and future. From each bubble, the student
will use adequate examples with pictures (provided by the teacher) and
words. Afterward the students will share their bubbles with their
classmates.
Eng SoL 1.2- The student will expand understanding and use of word
meanings.
a) Increase listening and speaking vocabularies.

b) Begin to ask for clarification and explanation of words and


ideas.

c) Use common singular and plural nouns.

d) Use vocabulary from other content areas.

The student can use popplet through this objective by each selecting a
word and then making a bubble map from that one word. Branching off
of that word will be its definition, a picture associated with it, and its
personal relation to the student through a sentence or phrase.

Science 1.4 The student will investigate and understand that plants
have basic life needs and functional parts and can be
classified according to certain characteristics. Key concepts

a) plants need nutrients, air, water, light, and a place to
grow;
b) basic parts of plants; and
c) plants can be classified based on a variety of
characteristics.
Incorporating this tool with this objective, students will be put into small groups
and each assigned a plant. The plant will be the center of the bubble map and
branching from it students can elaborate on the basic needs of their given plant.

Once a certain amount of bubbles are place on the screen it
becomes difficult to move around the page and really see how
the bubbles connect.
Collaboration may become difficult for student who do not have
email address, the only way to collaborate through this tool is to
put the students in groups

Brief instructions 1. Type the website (twiddla.com) into the URL
of how to use the 2. From the two boxes that will appear on your screen choose the

3. From there a new white board screen will show that allows you to
interact with it.
4. Choose draw in the top right bar of your screen
5. Now you can use your mouse as a writing device and create your
picture.
6. Play around with various tools and draw until you feel satisfied
and have finished a presentation.

in PK-12 The student will develop map skills by
a) locating the equator, the seven continents, and the five oceans on
maps and globes;
b) locating selected rivers (James River, Mississippi River, Rio Grande,
Huang He, and Nile River), mountain ranges (Appalachian
Mountains and Rocky Mountains), and lakes (Great Lakes) in the
United States and other countries.

-Twiddla could be incorporated into this lesson by giving the students a map of a
specific area and having them label rivers, mountains and other areas with the tools
provided by the site.

Reading (3.12 ) The student will use available technology for reading and writing.

-Twiddla could be incorporated into this lesson by having the students use the
white board as an interactive story board where they could draw out important
plot from the story.

7. You can also move the bubble around and alter its size
8. Adding bubbles is also an option by clicking white arrows to the
previous bubble or clicking the green circle in the lower right
corner
9. The arrow tool can be used to connect bubbles
10. The bubbles can be finalized and collaborated with other students
by clicking share mind map in the top right.
11. Other students can edit someone elses map only if the student
chooses can edit next to the emailing option.

(such as their household items) by color or shape. The students can be put into groups
according to similarities with these shapes, colors, or items.

c.) Revise by adding descriptive words when writing about people, places, things,
and events.
Bubbl.us can be incorporated into this SOL by having students create a story and match it
with the tool. The students can then come together with similarities in their stories.
SOL( 2.2)
The student will compare the lives and contributions of three American Indian cultures of
the past and present, with emphasis on the Powhatan of the Eastern Woodlands, the
Lakota of the Plains, and the Pueblo peoples of the Southwest.
Bubbl.us can be incorporated into this SOL by putting students in groups and having them
create a story about American Indian Tribes that they are assigned. Then they can
incorporate the story into the tool within these groups, being sure to incorporate
important facts of each tribe such as; their occupation, homes and much more.

This tool is easy to collaborate with and use as a printed hard copy for older
parents.
This tool is basically a digital mind-dumping brain map which is great for kids
who write slow or work faster with computers.
Negatives:
Only one person is allowed to edit a map at a time.
There are many limitations and hindrances with the tools customization option.
The free plan with the website limits how man y maps a student can create.
