Listen as Clients repeat questions to me to allow
them to feel comfortable with me.
Set boundaries about revealing personal
information about my life, but sharing select
details to form a bond with clients and allow
clients to ask about these details to reinforce
bond.
Remembering details of clients lives to
demonstrate interest in clients lives and
followed through with points of interest, i.e.
bringing a key lanyard from home as
requested by a client.
Remembering to give certain clients more
personal space than other clients.
Remembering which chair a client prefers.
Reviewing a new book that the Skills
Development Center has created for Autistic
clients called Stuff You Should Know.
Prepared a lesson regarding nutrition for Life
Skills Class for use with book. Reviewed
material about photosensitivity and seizures
after a client began having seizures after
watching t.v. and playing video games. Found
alternative forms of entertainment for Client,
discovered that he enjoyed coloring.

Maintain confidentiality and respect
for the Centers Clients
Observe other staff
members/volunteers to learn how
best to assist Clients and discuss
with staff members/volunteers and
Director how best to meet clients
needs and better understand this
population
Listening to clients discuss their lives.
Observing client interactions.
Not discussing a clients personal issues
with another client and encouraging
clients to keep personal boundaries.
Observed how Pat Weaver interacted with
the clients to maintain a calm and
nurturing environment. Spoke with
Pat during each volunteer session to
learn more about this population. Pat
often discussed a client in detail to
give me an overview of this
population.
By listening and observing clients as they
discussed their lives, even if I did not
understand all of the words the clients were
saying, I was able to have a small glimpse into
their worlds. Nodding and using words to show
that I was listening and actively engaged in
their conversations helped the clients trust me
and warm up to me.
Reminding other clients not to listen into another
clients conversation. Respecting a clients
manner of wanting to complete tasks or
participate in an activity, however different
from another persons manner of completing
an activity.
Observing how Pat Weaver is aware of each
clients needs and personalities and is aware
of how the clients interact with one another
and can anticipate how interactions can lead
to conflict and redirect behaviors in way to
prevent conflict. Also, how she is quick to
arrange activities to keep clients active and
engaged throughout the day, so that clients
are never bored but are encouraged to find
activities on their own to seek out their
interests and remain engaged with others to
develop relationships and social interactions.

NUR 4215P Course Objectives:
