Lesson Plan for Art 1 & 2

OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

The purpose of this activity is to familiarize students with art history and allow them to think critically
and chose their own media.

EDUCATION STANDARDS

AI.13 The student will analyze works of art as representational, abstract, or nonrepresentational,
including nonobjective and conceptual.

AI.11 The student will analyze major art movements and influential artists according to events, places,
cultures, and historical periods.

AI.10 The student will use a variety of drawing media and processes to create observational and
expressive works of art.

AI.8 The student will select and apply elements of art and principles of design to communicate
meaning in works of art.

AII.10 The student will use drawing media and processes to plan for and create works of art.

AII.12 The student will identify historical and contemporary works of art and artistic developments.

AII.15 The student will identify common characteristics of works of art and design that are presented as
a series or sequence.

MATERIALS NEEDED

1. Poster board
2. Drawing paper
3. Pencils
4. Colored Pencils
5. Copy of famous artwork cut into grids

VERIFICATION

Steps to check for student understanding


1. Students are expected to use
elements of design and art. Once the class
puts their pieces together you can see who
used them effectively and who did not.

ACTIVITY

Students will be given a square piece of


drawing paper and a small piece of
artwork that has been cut into a grid. They
will then be given the task to
collaboratively complete a finished work
of art by piecing them together.

After they have put the art together,


students will then be allowed to guess who
the artist was and the painting. They will
then learn more works made by the artist
and their art movements.
