SIMPLE PAST IRREGULAR VERBS

Presentation:

Teacher explains the difference between the regular verbs and the irregular verbs and
shows students the most common irregular verbs past conjugations.

In the context of verbs, we use the term inflection to talk about


the process of changing a verb form to show tense, mood, number
(i.e. singular or plural), and person (i.e. first person, second
person, or third person). Many English verbs are regular, which
means that they form their different tenses according to an
established pattern.
Such verbs work like this:
There are many irregular verbs that dont follow the normal rules.

For this lesson students will work with a set of common irregular verbs:

drew said knew ate was

blew saw grew gave ran

began came thought went told

sat spoke won took understood

said chose read wrote sang

Each students is going to retell a past event using at least three verbs from the list (they
can only use each verb once).

They can use the following time expressions:

In my last birthday. When I was a child. When I was at school.

Last year. Last week. This morning.

Last class. When I was younger. Yesterday.


Production

Each student chooses a number, behind each number there is picture and a verb, the
students must tell a short story based on them. The story must take place in the past.

Assessment
Students ask and answer (affirmatively) each other the following questions:

What did you eat at lunch today?

Did you take a bus today?

Did you understand the correct use of the simple past?

What did the teacher say to you at the beginning of the class ?

What did you see in your refrigerator this morning?

What did you write about in your last essay?

What did you read about in the newspaper this week?

What did you know about Donald Trump before he became president?

Why did you choose to study at the UNAD?

What did you think about the world ending theories in the 2000?

What you break when you were a child?


Assignment:

Students write a paragraph (10 sentences) using the simple past tense to tell the class
their experience in the course until now. They can use regular and irregular verbs.
