Digital Citizenship
1. What is digital citizenship? Digital citizenship is the ideal of how humans should interact
in a digital or technological world. These guidelines are meant to act as rules and laws
do in actual society.
2. In your own words, provide an overview of the 9 elements of digital citizenship
1. Digital access - The right to have access to technology
2. Digital commerce - The buying and selling of goods electronically
3. Digital communication - Transfer of communication using digital means
4. Digital literacy - The process of using and teaching technological use and skills
5. Digital etiquette - Electronic rules of conduct in digital settings
6. Digital law - Laws and regulations in digital settings
7. Digital rights & responsibilities - The rights and freedoms of technology users
8. Digital health & wellness - Physical and psychological well-being in a digital
setting
9. Digital security - Protection and precautions used in a digital setting
3. Provide examples of how you can practice and/or teach three different digital citizenship
elements in your current or future work setting, through (1) focusing on your individual
use of technology and/or (2) teaching/training others to be responsible with technology
use.
1. Example 1: Teaching forum rules and regulations provided by Administrators of
websites (Digital Law). By showing rules and regulations of a website, students
can learn how to abide by website codes of conduct.
2. Example 2: Teach and demonstrate the online ordering of parts for HVAC
equipment. (digital Commerce). By showing students how to look up parts, get
quotes, and place and order. Students can learn how to safely and properly order
parts online.
3. Example 3: Teach and demonstrate how to use Canvas chat function. (DIgital
communication). By showing students how to use and operate the chat instant
messenger feature, students can learn how to use and communicate properly
online with other students.
