The environment that affects UIU:

1. The general environment: The set of broad dimensions and forces in an organizations
surroundings that create its overall context.
Economic dimension

The economic dimension of an organizations general environment is the overall health and
vitality of the economic system in which the organization operates. Main factors of economic
growth are GDP growth, inflation and interest rate. The Bangladesh economic dimension
effect UIU in many ways. In Bangladesh economic growths are developing. In developing
country students take help from many sectors. The student of UIU takes loan from bank in a
low interest rate. By taking that loan they give the fees of university. If inflation get higher, it
will affect the interest rate which is not good for students. For this economic dimension
students get chance to study more. But if the economy growth is downsizing then it make
effect on student who get afraid to take loan & study further. So, economic dimension are
important for UIU. It directly makes effect on student to study further.

Technological Dimension:

By providing state of the art technology services and supports the vision of CITS is to create
an enabling environment for UIU to become the center of excellence in teaching, learning
and research in the South Asian region. By providing creative solution, responsive services
and reliable access to technology, CITS will leverage the power of technology to help fulfill
UIUs mission and vision. The primary objective of CITS is to identify, design, plan, develop,

3
`

implement and maintain various information systems in the university campus which will in
turn position UIU as a model for a world-class university. UIU has its own data center with
24/7 online service. UCAM (University Comprehensive Academic Manager) is used in UIU
which stands for University Comprehensive Academic Manager. This covers the entire life-
cycle of students starting from admission through degree completion. The system has been
developed by a professional software company. CITS software development team studies the
software application domain, prepares software requirements, specification and maintains the
link between the software users and the software developers.

Socio Culture:

Religious: It has a big impact on the environment of UIU. Student's and the teachers abide by
their religious things. So they dress up in the religious way.

Western: Though the university should not follow the western or foreign rule, but actually
they do. Like- education systems are as Forgein University.

Relation maintain: The students and the teachers of the university maintain their relation as-
friendship, colleague. They help each other in every way. It's a great impact for a university.
Language: UIU has language club in campus 1. Besides the teacher train the students English
for develop their skill. They speak both Bengali as well as English. They behave politely with
one another.

University there has dress code for male as well female. As male have to wear shoes
mandatory and well dress.

Political-legal Dimension:

The political environment can be simply describe as the law and regulations that business has
to follow in order to make sure the business owner do not get arrested. Govt. has directly
effect in UIU like, Govt. directly orders UIU to transfer UIU to Satarkul in environmental
considerations. Due to political reason, UIU can't take class.

The International Dimension:

Every organization faces local & international challenges from all parts of the world as the
world is now considered as a single market, which is namely called as Global Market. Thus,
UIU, an educational institution who provides higher education and delivers productive,

4
`

potential and effective graduates to rule the domestic and international business empire also
responds to the same impact. However, before UIU had begun to produce potential
performers, there were many other institutions from within the country and abroad that had
an extended their education service and thereby producing quality graduates who competes
with each other in the entire world. Being a local university with an essence of internationally
recognized quality faculties, UIU is definitely improving its alumni bases and thus we expect
that the institution will produce more quality personnels to rule over the corporate world
domestically and internationally. In terms of Bangladesh, this institution faces strong
challenges from certain Public and Private Universities thats affects their educational
growth. However, a business without strong competitors has no fun to play. The institution
being very younger than other had achieved various prestigious rewards from local and
international associations including Government of Bangladesh and European Union which
creates a unique identity for them. The institution follows the American curriculum which
depicts that the American education has a stronger influence which contradicts with our
domestic curriculum. Scholarships and waivers are also provided by the institution to help the
potential students to cover up their expenses and prepare them to be global personnel. There
is no doubt that the organization has a future leap towards the peak, it is yet to observe which
destination and direction they move.

2. The Task Environment: Specific organizations or groups that influence an organization.

Competitors:

An organization that competes with other organizations for resources. The most obvious
resources that competitors vie for are customer revenue. Competitors are two types. One is
direct competitors another is indirect competitors. Direct competitors are other universities
like NSU, IUB, BRAC, AIUB which is also in categorized in group A. Indirect competitors
are institutes like polytechnic institute and other skill based institutes. Direct competitors are
direct affect UIU for better quality education & the fees also. Many switches into polytechnic
institute because of the amount are higher for get a degree. UIU is affected because there are
so many competitors in Bangladesh. UIU must have quality to compete with their
competitors; otherwise they will out of the market.

Customers:

BBA program of UIU is one of top within the country and attracts a large number of students
each year. Students are basically from nearby Dhanmodi area. Students will get 100% Tuition
5
`

Fee Waiver under Freedom Fighters Children Quota. Students must register a minimum of 9
credits (for undergraduate students) / 6 credits (for graduate students) in each trimester and
will have to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 for continuation of the waiver in the following
trimester. The new campus in Satarkul will attract the students of the nearby area.

Suppliers:

Library: All the campuses got one library to each campus. Different types of books are
available over there and all the students can read any types of book they want and each of the
students must have a library card with them.

Multimedia: All the classes have one projector to each and the teachers teach the students by
projecting the lessons on the screen. Both campuses have lab as well. The students use
computers on their needs where they take the ICT subject or they need.

Stationary: Every campus got stationary shop so that all the things like pencil, rule, notebook
etc can be available for the teachers and students of any time.

Strategic Partners:

A strategic partnership is a long term interaction between two companies that work together
in joint ventures or other partnership. For example UIU has partnered with DBBL.UIU take
all service from DBBL, like employees salary, students Bill.

Regulators:

Regulators are those elements who have the authority to legislate, control and influence all
activities of the organization. In terms of UIU, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh
(UGC) is the body who regulates all educational institution that provides higher education.
The UGC is appointed by the Government to monitor all educational institution to protect
public interest. UIU faces strong challenges from these regulators as all policies and
procedures need to be approved by UGC. The UGC sets the syllabus for the all educational
institution including UIU which prohibits the exploration of individual choice and preference.
UIU is also threatened to revise the system of three trimester to two semester which is quite
complicated for the students as they been in a habit of the trimester system. The regulator has
also laid down an order for which the whole campus having three building in different area
has to bring under an umbrella and thus they are forced to shift to a new location which might
interrupt many students and teachers as well. UIU enjoys the flexibility of formulating their
6
`

own grading standards as like other private institution of Bangladesh. However, UGC has
taken an initiative to create official grading standards for both public and private universities
which impacts their flexibility. Students are the prominent interest groups for UIU. The
institution allows students association naming as a club or a forum who actively takes part in
various educational activities as like the seminars and competition. However, they do not
possess any authority to convey their words. Even if the students dislike any law, they are
forced to accept it. None of the students are allowed to form and political unions so as to
protect from any nuisance. As this institution is providing education service, it also has
certain business intension which is impacted by the regulators. The institution does not only
affected by UGC and interest groups, however, there are many others regulatory body who
creates barrier for them.

3. The Internal Environment: The condition and forces in organizations.

Owners:

Owner is who can claim property rights to an organization. Owner can be single individual or
jointly or individual investors who establishes and runs a business. UIUs owner is the united
group. United group have hospitals, financial organization, developers group etc. They are
operates so many sector with UIU. For this reason, UIU is become more famous in
Bangladesh. So, owner is an element of economic dimension which directly affect UIU.

Board of Directors:
Employees:

Teachers: UIU has skilled teachers. They are highly qualified and they teach very perfectly.
So that each of the students understand the concept very easily.

Others staffs like security guard, assistant, cleaners are very attentive their tasks. They do
their best in every way.

Physical Environment:

Human have needed to be sensitive to their surroundings to survive and seek out environment
with environment effect an organization like UIU. For example, main campus more formal
and 2nd campus casual and also effect in attitude and Satarkul campus is specious. There
should be peaceful and berthing space. These environments can influence people's behavior
and motivation to act.

UIUs Culture:

Culture has become a focusing topic in relation to an educational organization's success.

The culture of UIU has very significant role to play. For the development of the
institution and become one of the prominent educational institution, it has develop a
strong culture where experts will be hired and work towards their mission. UIU is
affected by the traditional facts. The tradition to think that public universities graduates
are worth than private and are more valuable. Some institution has very open culture
where there dress code is not criticized and has the freedom to innovate and implicate
their ideas into action. Whereas, UIU have very rigid policies and are abided by strict
laws, restricting their ideas within themselves. It has to build a culture of freedom and
openness and focus on innovation and differentiation. UIU does have a positive culture
towards their smoking policies as none of the students and faculties are allowed to smoke
within the campus and will undertake disciplinary action in breach of the code of conduct.
Violation of any laws and regulation will terminate anyone who is convicted. Our social
and political culture also impacts on the organization. UIU is bound to develop and
practice culture according to the society which sometimes restricts to explore. They need
to focus on creating a unique cultural system so that none of the organizations and
societies culture is compromised. Though it is a big challenge, it is the ultimate
assumptions to develop the future.
