ARANKA HAT

Measurements Needles
Length: 12 / 30.5 cm US 4 - 3.5 mm
Brim circumference: 18 / 46 cm - 16 [41 cm] circular needle

This hat is soft and bouncy and should fit most US 6 - 4.0 mm
heads with some positive ease. - 16 [41 cm] circular needle

Approximate amount: 219 yards / 200 meters obtain the correct gauge.

Please take into consideration that I had about 8 Gauge


yards to spare with my sample. If your gauge is 32 sts and 24 rows = 4 in 1x1 Rib st
looser than recommended, you might want to with US 4 [3.5 mm] needle, lay down
buy a second skein as insurance. flat, not stretched.
Abbreviations

psso: pass the slipped stitch over; 1 st decreased;
sl st: slip stitch purlwise;
yo: yarn over;
wyb: with yarn in the back of the work;
k2tog: knit 2 sts together; 1 st decreased.

Mrs. Hunter's Pattern


Multiple of 4 stitches. Number of stitches are reduced in round 3 and recovered in round 4.
Rnds 1 and 2: knit.
Rnd 3: * sl 1 wyb, k3, psso the 3 knit sts; repeat from * to end.
Rnd 4: * k3, yo; repeat from * to end.

Instructions
This hat is worked in the round from the bottom up.
Cast on 132 sts on smaller circular needle. Place marker and join to work in the round,
being careful not to twist your stitches. This marker indicates the beginning of the round.
Slip this marker in all rounds to the end of the hat.

Establish Ribbing
Rnd 1: *k1, p1, repeat from * to end.
Repeat last round working in 1x1 ribbing as established for 6 " (16.5 cm).
Change to larger needles.

Begin Mrs. Hunter's Pattern

Work "Mrs. Hunter's Pattern" 4 stitches repeat over 132 stitches.

Repeat rounds 1 to 4 - seven times (total of 28 rounds) or desired length (each repeat
measures about " or 1.25 cm). You need to complete a full repeat of the pattern to start
the crown decreases.

Knit two rounds.

Switch to double-pointed needles when you have too few stitches to work comfortably
on circular needles.
Rnd 1: * k9, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round - 120 sts.
Rnd 2: * k8, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round - 108 sts.
Rnd 3: * k7, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round - 96 sts.
Rnd 4: * k6, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round - 84 sts
Rnd 5: * k5, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round - 72 sts
Rnd 6: * k4, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round - 60 sts
Rnd 7: * k3, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round - 48 sts
Rnd 8: * k2, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round - 36 sts
Rnd 9: * k1, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round - 24 sts
Rnd 10: * k2tog; repeat from * to end of round - 12 sts
Rnd 11: * k2tog; repeat from * to end of round - 6 sts
Break yarn, leaving long tail, weave through remaining sts and cinch shut, securing on
wrong side.

Finishing
Weave in all loose ends with tapestry needle. Block well.
