Classroom Management
-two teachers morning and afternoon required to be in room because of special learning needs.
(always making sure you are on the same page and teaching things that work hand in hard
#productive)
-29 students; one class room size of Ed lab
- quick pictures otherwise students will take FOREVER
- doesnt take time to answer any questions
- part of me hates this, but as I experienced from walking around the room and picking
up questions, I found that they dont know how to articulate questions and most of them are
very unproductive, so it ends up just being better to say no question, only raise your hand in
an emergency
-formulating questions can be hard for me... But how do we encourage good
questioners?
-utilize carpet space no matter how small the classroom. Students need to feel comfy and at
home. Carpets can do that!!!!!
- asking students if something is fair or unfairthey will be able to respond honestly if you ask
them

Case Study
-can sometimes almost act sick/slow to the point where I feel so bad for him
-sometimes teachers just let him sit back and not participate on the carpet because he seems to
be so out of it Wednesday
-sluggish & behavioral needs as well as focusing
- he was gone last two days of internship
-mom is in picture but not until later at night
-mom signs agenda and is aware of educational needs
- she provides meds for him in the morning, to school nursehis responsibility to go to office to
take them.
-he is very aware of his needs and can tell at end of day when meds begin to wear off

Literacy
-Edward Tulane teacher reads everyday after recess melting time while students draw what
they hear in their daily notebook
-spelling: if you can spell hurt, then you can spell spurt explicitly telling students that they
have the skills to learn new information
-IED & REI &Title literacy programs provided by state for specialized literacy
-students left in classroom do other work with teacher (higher level), or silent read
-only focuses on math, reading, & writing. Science and social studies are integrated, but grades
come out of more so literacy grades
-reading a short passage with the class for a weekunderstanding a concept, you can read the
passage everyday all week long and have a different activity/assignment each day revolving
around the skill with the passage

Random Notes
- everyone, say it with me I can do this.
- substitute changes entire vibe of classroom
- giving choices helps students make school their own
- so many students asking why the day cant be over yet, or when can school be out ):
- ALWAYS apologize when you are wrong/ incorrect Im still learning
- students go to title a student learning center for individualized needslower end of the class
out, so higher end stays in classroom and does a higher level activity... Creates an even larger
gap between higher and lower 3rd grade learning level students
-sat in on parent/teacher/vice principal meeting about a students education needs IEP
-students failing 3 months into school with extra guidance/help mother concerned
-lots of questions of how to move forward
-wanted more out of teachers... 29 STUDENTS!!! And she wants more individualized
work for her daughter ...
- did not finish the meeting, but good insight into how parents only see one child while a
teacher sees 29. BIG gap of perspective.
-character Ed cant happen in an entire school, but you can do it as a class. Revolve it around
DOS not DONT s
- are computers helpful at all???????????? Not convinced.
- I only want to see a computer lab, not individualized computers in classroom.
