Plan
Spring 2017
Rebecca Olmos
Introduction
Hello! My name is Rebecca Olmos. I am a 20 year old. I attend to the University of
Houston Art major, and I am currently in the Education program working into getting my
certification in Middle School Art teacher. I always dreamed of becoming a teacher since I was a
little child. This is my classroom management plan, here you will see my management plan for
middle school art content area. This portfolio will act as an outline to all the management
techniques I will focus on. I believe that every students should just be listen to and be treated
fairly. Good discipline should be incorporated but most of all appropriate teaching should always
take the lead. This portfolio will act as a full taught out idea of implementations I believe
students need.
Philosophical Statement:
As I said above, I believe that every students should just be listen to and be treated fairly.
Good discipline should be incorporated but most of all appropriate teaching should always take
the lead. My theory is to understand the students feeling as well as their behaviors. Middle
school is the time of the life where one is just trying to find their place in the world. It should be
a time where educator must be as comprehensive as possible. Much like Ginnotts theory. I
believe that the educators daily mood will set the mood of the classroom, It Is my daily mood
that makes the weather- Haim Ginott, Classroom Management models, applications, and cases.
Dissemination of
philosophy
The way I plan to send my massage across is by sending home a letter that helps the
parents know who I am and what is my purpose of the letter along with that letter I will attached
a small paper slip that lets me know what the best form of contacting them is. After I get the
information back I will make then attach them in every single individual students folder and
email the parents as a whole. If for some reason the parents are not receiving the emails then I
will personally send a letter home this letter will let the parent know how the student is doing at
school and problems that might be happening. I am going to make sure as well that the parents
have my personal contact information if they need to contact me or I need to make an emergency
call.

First Day
For my first day of class I want to stand in the door and shake every single of my students
hand because I want them to understand that first of all I respect them and they should respond
back with respect. I want to make the students feel comfortable. I want to have a lot of poster all
over my walls for the use of decorations and motivation, something the students can look into
and have the feeling of self-confidence. As soon as my students are seated I want explain to them
Since I will be focusing with middle school, the first thing I want to explain to them are
rules and policies. The second thing I will go over is the safety rules. Every studio deserves
safety rules to let the students know what material are dedicated and need to be treated with
caution, as well as what is safe for the student themselves. I want to set a good a good example
myself if I want them to follow what I am requesting so I will do demos of how I want them
manage the material when putting them up as well as for the safety rules. After the rules, the
students will be going through a small ice breaker! The icebreaker will involve the student to say
their name, age, and something cool or something they like. This will only go on for the first half
of the hour. After the ice breaker finishes I will pass out construction paper, stickers, and
markers. The students will be required to write their name tag in their own personal style and on
the back of the name tag they will write or draw their best image theyve drawn so far. This will
enable me to know what level of drawing they are, for future assignments.

Classroom enviroment
My classroom will be layed out where the seating arrangent will be done in rows. I am
expecting to have tables instead of desk. My tables will all be vertcally facing the front of the
class. They will be split into 3 rows of 2 tables, each table will contain at most 4-5 chairs. This
will allow me to have sufficent room to walk around the tables and be able to assist students with
out know their art work down. Having 4-5 students on each table will enable the students to have
more room to work and still have their personal items on the tables. This will not only create
more space for the students but it will also create a better community for the students. On the
When you walk in trough the entrance you will see a cabinet on you right wall. This
cabinet will contain material students will need trough the year-long. Having this cabinet here
will allow me to separate my material and make them specifically for students. I, on the other
hand, will have a cabinet of my own right behind my desk. This cabinet will be strictly for

Items I plan to use for my future classroom:
The teacher should be able to know and understand the student in a more meaningful way and
still know how to disciple. This meaning that if we know the student is not emotional stable, then
we are not going to go and give him/her the punishment to the maximum. It means that even
thou we know how the student acts. That even when he/she is emotionally stable and they are
acting up for fun, the punishment will be fair. I will let the student know what is expected of
them and they will be able to voice their opinions as well but know that I will only take into
The students will be expected to follow the following rules and be consisted that they
are in an environment where safety is big and so is being creative. They will have two poster
hanged on their cabinets where the rules and the safety rules will be place. This way every time
they need to grab material they will know what is expected of them.
I will have a slip to give out to the parents at the beginning of the semester for the
parents. This will allow them to know the rules I want them to follow. The parents and students
will need to sign this. This way I will have some back up agreement when the student
misbehave.

t 1Policy list I plan to use to keep the room in order:
1. When you walk in you are expected to walk in quietly with out loud noises.
2. Once you the students walk in the classroom they are require to grab their journals
and start on the warm up that is posted on the boards.
3. After doing their warm ups Students will know to:
a. Copy homework on the table of contents area.
b. Gather materials needed
c. Get missing work from missing work tray
d. Turn in homework in the homework tray
4. Homework is expected to turn in on time then the assignment will due in for a 5%
reduction for late submissions. (unless otherwise instructed)
5. Students will raise their hands if they need any assistance or they need to go to the
bathroom.
6. Teacher will rhythmically lift her hand if the noise gets too loud.
a. Significance to lowering the volume
7. As a class we will stay committed to our schedule to have free working time
a. Students get to do their own art
8. We will put up all material at all times.
9. Teacher will always dismiss class!
I plan to use these policies to ensure our schedule and safeness in the classroom. This
procedure will help maintain behavioral order by referencing back when someone is not

I want the student to feel prepared and to feel like that can accomplish the daily routines without
any problems. I would like to follow this poster to help refresh the students mind.
The students will be able to know what is expected when they come into the classroom and
having a poster like this would work as a reminder to the student that they need to come in and

Classroom Procedures:
To start off the normal day basis, I will first explain the schedule to the students so that
they can understand what is happening that day. I will start my day by doing a warm-up on the
board. Most of the warm ups will be drawing out something to get the students juices flowing.
Itll be something crazy or something very simple at times. Before the juices store again I will
get going right away with explaining the assignment. The transitions will be a simple lets move
on to the next important thing Assignment 3. Once the assignment is explained I will choose the
material manager to pick material and pass them out. I will implement this to the students as a
routine. They will expect to do the same warm up every day and as a rewards I will change up
I will have journal where students will their warm-ups every morning. They will be
places in crates where they will be able to go and locate them as soon as they walk in.
This are illustration of
procedure that I have plan
become everyday procedure.
Warm-Up
This is an example or warm ups I will have my students do. I will have them draw or sketch
different parts over and over again to keep the skill with them. This warm-ups will be small
practices the students will receive for their future art skills.

Not only that but

procedure.
Steps to address misbehavior:
There are two factors I will take into consideration when addressing misbehavior. I will
address it to the student and to the parents. If a student is misbehaving in my classroom I will try
to understand the students and like Gordons theory I believe we need to know where the
problem comes from. I would use empathetic understanding, if the student is being too much of a
distraction I will ask the student to step outside for a small talk. If the students refuses to even
step outside then I will have to use the consequences that needs to be used according to the
behavior. As an educator I want to be able to understand the students much as possible and give
Parents are something I would focus as well. The parent is allowed to know how the
student is doing in the classroom. Just I stated above in my philosophy I will contact the parent
to let them know if there is any problems we are having. I will send out letters with the student
that fully closed. If the student never delivers the letter I will give a phone call home to let the
parents know the problem. I will have other options as well such as conferences with parents.
There might times where the parents might be the one to meet up and along with my beginning
letter I will send them my contact information. I plan to diminish the action of misbehaving by
having posters around the room where the idea is to send a message that is useless to act up and
it will only take you nowhere. If the behavior is happening among a group of students in the
classroom I will move to that spot and continue the lesson in hopes that the distraction will stop.
This is a very good example of the type of poster I want to use for motivation. To let the student
know misbehaving leads to nowhere.
The pictures above are picture I would like to post around my classroom to influence the
students. They would be like a hidden massage from me to them.
I am writing to let you know about your sons routine in school. You see we have a
policy of no phones and according to our policy if we see one we must take them up. I wanted to
let you know that Juan has not been following this rules and therefore has been sent a warning. I
have tried to comprise with him for several times and the problem is still continuing to distract
his classmates. If you would like to talk or meet me about any further question please contact me
or the school. I hope to hear back from you soon.
Sincerely,
Ms. Olmos, Art Educator

Motivating the student:
While there are still some students that are shy and hard to bring out from the shell, I
believe that with a little of encouragement they can reach their full potential. Dedication and
motivation take a big role on this. The student need to know that they are appreciated even for
the small things. They need to have a role model in which they can go and ask for advice or even
someone giving advice to them. I am a strong believer that if a student sees the teacher motivated
then the student will want to feel motivated to learn. The teacher is the mood switch of the class
One way I would motivate students with a simple factor is quotations placed around the
walls. I would make sure that if I am not encouraging the student the right way, I will make my
rooms environment feel like a safe place to them. Simply feel comfortable and inspirational. I
will motivate the students by giving them a simple note that says something motivational. Also I
will use rewarding as a form of motivation such as going to art competitions, theaters, playing
music, and having real artist come to class to talk. This will enable the students motivations and
they will feel like they need to accomplish things to get these as rewards. At times I will set a
reward as a goal. It can be simple as going to the museum or the park. I will try to make room to
take my students to the backyard of the school to draw outside things and this will work as
motivation. They will work hard on warm ups to leave the classroom faster.

Student relationship
Building relationships with the student is the most important part as an educator. To
encourage, help, inspire, and act as a role model are the most important factors in their lives. We
want to make an impact and help them in any way possible. As soon a student walks into the
classroom a relationship automatically starts and its up to the teacher to take the lead. Perusing
the student helps starting the relationship knowing in which way we can help them and talk to
them. I would base this off Ginnotts theory. His applications states that if we are listening
clearly to them and simply use the parent voice/talk. Be their friend of truism and not their
unmotivated friend. I will build my relationship with the students by interacting with them on a
1:1 basis. When they are doing art I will come and help them and even show them different
One more important thing that I will implement on my students is the habit of having
critiques. This critiques will be something the students will be able to take motivation,
techniques, presentations skills, and learning skills out of them. The students will also be able to
make more of a community by telling their classmates what was good about their art work and
what parts do they need to better in. They will be able to connect with one another and not have
the students feel like their work doesnt matter in the class. At the end of the critiques I will have
my every student write something positive to the presenter anonymously. This way my shy
students who dont speak up or the student who lack presentation qualities will not feel
unmotivated. But itll be the complete opposite they will feel encourage that their classmates are
students and check on them routinely. I will walk around helping my students or even just
making conversations they can relate to, such as favorite music, favorite artist, what is there day
skillful students.
This are some expectations I have for myself to build the relationship. I want to be the teacher
they can trust and they go when they have problems. Not only that but I want their art skills to
