NAEYC Statement of Commitment

As an individual who works with young children, I, Israel Miranda, commit myself to furthering the
values of early childhood education as they are reflected in the ideals and principles of the

NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct. To the best of my ability I will:

Never harm children


Ensure that programs for young children are based on current knowledge and research
of child development and early childhood education
Respect and support families in their task of nurturing children
Respect colleagues in early childhood care and education and support them in
maintaining the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct
Serve as an advocate for children, their families, and their teachers in community and
society
Stay informed of and maintain high standards of professional conduct
Engage in an ongoing process of self-reflection, realizing that personal characteristics,
biases, and beliefs have an impact on children and families
Be open to new ideas and be willing to learn from the suggestions of others
Continue to learn, grow, and contribute as a professional
Honor the ideals and principles of the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct

Ethical Responsibilities to Children

I will provide a safe environment for children and report any misdoings. I will respect and
recognize a childs unique qualities. I will create a safe, healthy environment that will enhance a childs
social, emotional, cognitive and physical development. I will support a childs need to be successful. If I
see reasonable abuse or neglect I will report it to the appropriate agency. I will strive to build a
relationship with the child that will be positive and safe.

Ethical Responsibilities to Families

I will develop a mutual relationship with the families and work effectively on the wellbeing of
the child. I will welcome and encourage all family members to participate in the activity. I will
acknowledge a childs values based off their familys upbringing and their right to make choices. I will
help families understand their child and support their developing skills set by their parents. I will not
deny the family members access to the classroom or any work the child has done. I will involve the
parent in any decision involving the child and all policies.
Ethical Responsibilities to Colleagues

Responsibilities to co-workers I will respect, trust and work cohesively with my colleagues. I will
communicate and interact with any adult I work with. I will be caring and cooperative. I will maintain
supportive and productive relationships with my colleagues. The rules I apply on the children I will apply
to adults. I will share all resources with colleagues.

Responsibilities to employers

I will provide the highest level of service. I will follow all program policies. If I have concerns or
conditions that impact the care and education I will inform the program administration or appropriate
authorities. I will strive to secure adequate compensation for those who work with or on behalf of young
children. I shall maintain confidentiality in dealing with issues related to an employees job performance.

Ethical Responsibilities to Community and Society

To provide the community with high-quality early childhood care and education programs and
services. I will promote cooperation among professionals and agencies and interdisciplinary
collaboration. I will promote policies and laws that promote the well-being of children and families.

Individual

I shall communicate openly and truthfully about the nature and extent of services that we
provide. I shall apply for, accept, and work in positions for which I am personally well-suited and
professionally qualified. I shall not offer services that I do not have the competence, qualifications, or
resources to provide. When I have evidence that an early childhood program is violating laws or
regulations protecting children, I shall report the violation to appropriate authorities who can be
expected to remedy the situation.

Collective

To work through education, research, and advocacy toward an environmentally safe world in
which all children receive health care, food, and shelter; are nurtured; and live free from violence in
their home and their communities. To work through education, research, and advocacy toward a society
in which all young children have access to high-quality early care and education programs.
