2Security Protection and Trouble Removal

2.1 The discharge pressure of Security Valve
The discharge pressure of Security Valves has been set to 6 kPa.
Adjust the tidal volume to ample and block the Y-type trifurcate connecter. The
security valves begin to release gas when the pressure value 6 kPa. If the pressure
value of security valves is too high or too low during operation, please contact us or

16
EASTWELL INTERNATIONAL ANESTHESIA SERIES

our authorized service center for adjustment and maintenance.

Caution: Ventilator pipe pondings may cause infectious disease and

environmental pollution. Pondings handling should be in strict accordance
with "Administrative Measures for Clinical Waste of Public Health
Authority" issued by the Ministry of Public Health of the Peoples Republic
of China, as well as with the regulations and requirements of government's
environmental protection agencies.

2.2 Fuse
The fuse of ventilator (cartridge fuse) is installed on the rear panel.
If DC supply indicator of the ventilator is on (which means the storage battery is
supplying power to the ventilator) under normal power grid supply, this can be
identified as a sign of fuse burn-out or poor contact of AC supply. The following steps
must be followed when replacing the fuse:
1)Do not switch the power switch of the ventilator under operation. Just unplug
the plug of power wire from power socket, and the ventilator will be automatically
turned into storage battery power supply, then replace the fuse under such condition.

Caution: The power switch of the ventilator is a switch for both AC supply
and emergency battery. Switch off a ventilator under operation would
make it stop working immediately.
2) Open the fuse holder and replace the cartridge fuse.
3) Size of the cartridge fuse is: 520 mm flat-end 1A glass shell cartridge fuse

2.3 Improper operations and their solutions.

Improper operation of the ventilator includes:

2.3.1 High adjustment of tidal volume and airway pressure limit may cause the patient
to suffer from barotrauma.

17
EASTWELL INTERNATIONAL ANESTHESIA SERIES

2.3.2 Low adjustment of tidal volume and airway pressure limit may cause the patient
to suffer from anoxia due to insufficient ventilation.
The two conditions mentioned above can be corrected by adjusting
corresponding knobs.

2.3.3 Using unearthed power supply may cause static electricity in the machine, thus
causing the patients or operators to be electrically shocked. Way for handling such
situation is using safely earthed power supply.

3The Cleaning and Disinfection of the Ventilator

3.1 The cleaning and disinfecting procedure
Routinely disinfect the ventilator, namely, replace the patients ventilator pipe
with new or disinfected one and perform cleaning and disinfection, or use two
disinfected ventilators alternatively.
Final disinfection should be conducted to unused ventilator, namely, thoroughly
clean and disinfect the ventilator, assemble it again for next service. Clean and

18
EASTWELL INTERNATIONAL ANESTHESIA SERIES

disinfect the ventilator which has not been used for a long time before using it again.
Keep all cleaning and disinfection record on file for investigation.

3.2 The focus of cleaning and disinfecting

Place emphasis on the respiratory pipe of the ventilator, including components
such as breathing pipe, face mask, etc.

3.3 The method of cleaning

3.3.1 Cleaning the breathing pipe and face mask:
Cleanse the dirt on the inner wall of pipe with neutral cleaning solution, pay
special attention to phlegm, blood stain, oil stain, and other dirt residue, then rinse the
pipe with clean water.

3.3.2 Cleaning the ventilator:

Dip a piece of soft cloth in warm water or neutral cleaning solution to wipe off
the dirt and dust on shell as well as on pulley bracket of the ventilator, and then dry
them with a piece of dry cloth. No liquid is allowed to enter into the ventilator during
cleaning process.

Caution: Waste water and dirt produced during ventilator cleaning may cause
infectious disease and environmental pollution. Disposal of these dirts
should be in strict accordance with "Administrative Measures for Clinical
Waste of Public Health Authority" issued by the Ministry of Public Health
of the Peoples Republic of China, as well as with the regulations and
requirements of government's environmental protection agencies.

3.4 The method of disinfecting

Method 1: Soak the cleansed breathing pipe and face mask, etc. in disinfectant
for 30-60 minutes (Attention: Silicone products would be easily damaged by soaking
too much time). Common disinfectants include bromogeramin peracetic acid, 84

19
EASTWELL INTERNATIONAL ANESTHESIA SERIES

disinfectant, etc. Cleanse the disinfectant both inside and outside the pipe with
sterilizing brine or distilled water, then hang to dry it.
Method 2: Put the cleansed breathing pipe and face mask, etc. in epoxy ethane
disinfectant tank for conventional disinfection.

4Maintenance
The maintenance of the Ventilator
Do not use equipment with functional defect. Any maintenance service of this
ventilator should be provided by the manufacturer or its authorized agency. After
maintenance, check various functions of the ventilator to ensure them in accordance
with descriptions in this instruction book.
