and cleaning the surface. The liquid agent in the vaporizer cavity should be
discharged if the anaesthetic machine will not be used for a period longer
than one month. The sensor should be examined whether normal or not every
quarter and the product should be thoroughly maintained every year by
EASTWELL corporation. You should send the measuring instruments of the
machine (manometer and flowmeter) to the local technical supervision
department for measurement and calibration.
2.2 Maintenance
2.2.1 Cleaning and Clearing
a) The whole Equipment:
Dip a piece of cloth in clean water to wipe off the dust on the outside
surface and add a little neutral cleaning solution in the clean water if
necessary, dry the surface with a piece of clean cloth, and then cover it with
an PVC bag with good permeability. No liquid is allowed to enter into the
ventilator during cleaning process.
b) Cleaning and clearing of the patient contacting components
The components contacted with patients should be cleaned and cleared
up based on different categories and according to the procedure of soaking
firstly, washing secondly, rinsing thirdly and airing finally, and please add the
neutral cleaning solution in the water if necessary. Then assemble the
components, and please keep in mind that the electronic components of the
sensor should not be washed.
2.2.2 Disinfecting
a) Generally, the whole machine doesnt need to be disinfected. Please
disinfect it in the normal temperature environment with epoxy ethane after
being washed according to 7.2.1 a), if the disinfection is necessary.

Storage condition:
1) Relative Humidity: no more than 90%;
2) Ambient Temperature: normal temperature;
3) Store the products in well-ventilated rooms without corrosive gas and
avoid collision.
Transportation condition:
1) Fasten firmly to avoid collision and do not turn over;
2) Original package and the cushion packing of the anaesthetic machine
should be used against any damage;
3) Rain proof measures should be taken on the package;
4) The transportation vehicle should be provided with rain proof
measures and the anaesthetic machine should be fastened firmly against
collision when it is transported separately.

5) Oxygen supply failure and the protective device
When the pressure of oxygen supply decreases to 0.2Mpa, the
anaesthetic machine will alarm which will last no less than 7 seconds. When
the pressure of oxygen supply keeps decreasing, the laughing gas flow
should stop to enter into aspiratory circulation loop before the oxygen supply
flow is cut off.
6) Vaporizer
Refer to the instruction manual of vaporizer
7) Circulation Loop
Working Pattern: Enclosed, Semi-Enclosed, Semi-Open;
Resistance: the resistances of inspiration and expiration are both less
than 0.6Kpa;
Adjustable pressure-limiting valve: 14 kPa (standardized loop)
7.5 kPa (integrated loop)
8) The net dimensions and weight of the machine, the dimensions
and gross weight of the package:
Refer to the arrangement drawing of the major components.

2.2 Fuse
The fuse of ventilator (cartridge fuse) is installed on the rear panel.
If DC supply indicator of the ventilator is on (which means the storage battery is
supplying power to the ventilator) under normal power grid supply, this can be
identified as a sign of fuse burn-out or poor contact of AC supply. The following steps
must be followed when replacing the fuse:
1)Do not switch the power switch of the ventilator under operation. Just unplug
the plug of power wire from power socket, and the ventilator will be automatically
turned into storage battery power supply, then replace the fuse under such condition.
Caution: The power switch of the ventilator is a switch for both AC supply
and emergency battery. Switch off a ventilator under operation would
make it stop working immediately.
2) Open the fuse holder and replace the cartridge fuse.
3) Size of the cartridge fuse is: 520 mm flat-end 1A glass shell cartridge fuse
2.3.1 High adjustment of tidal volume and airway pressure limit may cause the patient
to suffer from barotrauma.
17
EASTWELL INTERNATIONAL ANESTHESIA SERIES
2.3.2 Low adjustment of tidal volume and airway pressure limit may cause the patient
to suffer from anoxia due to insufficient ventilation.
The two conditions mentioned above can be corrected by adjusting
corresponding knobs.
2.3.3 Using unearthed power supply may cause static electricity in the machine, thus
causing the patients or operators to be electrically shocked. Way for handling such
situation is using safely earthed power supply.
18
EASTWELL INTERNATIONAL ANESTHESIA SERIES
disinfect the ventilator which has not been used for a long time before using it again.
Keep all cleaning and disinfection record on file for investigation.
Caution: Waste water and dirt produced during ventilator cleaning may cause
infectious disease and environmental pollution. Disposal of these dirts
should be in strict accordance with "Administrative Measures for Clinical
Waste of Public Health Authority" issued by the Ministry of Public Health
of the Peoples Republic of China, as well as with the regulations and
requirements of government's environmental protection agencies.

disinfectant, etc. Cleanse the disinfectant both inside and outside the pipe with
sterilizing brine or distilled water, then hang to dry it.
Method 2: Put the cleansed breathing pipe and face mask, etc. in epoxy ethane
disinfectant tank for conventional disinfection.
4Maintenance
The maintenance of the Ventilator
Do not use equipment with functional defect. Any maintenance service of this
ventilator should be provided by the manufacturer or its authorized agency. After
maintenance, check various functions of the ventilator to ensure them in accordance
with descriptions in this instruction book.
The ventilator should be thoroughly cleaned, disinfected and maintained every 6
months by specifically appointed personnel. Keep the maintenance record on file.
Overall performance examination must be conducted in advance before a ventilator
was put into use again when it has been suspended for more than 6 months.
20
EASTWELL INTERNATIONAL ANESTHESIA SERIES
5.1.1 Original package and cushion packing of the ventilator should be used pursuant
to relevant regulations.
21
EASTWELL INTERNATIONAL ANESTHESIA SERIES
5.1.3 Shelter must be provided for open-air transportation. Avoid the sunlight, rain,
and violent vibration. Do not turn over and toss the package during loading and
unloading process.
