Definition - Intravenous therapy is the giving of liquid substance directly into a vein. It can be
intermittent or continuous or also known as intravenous drip.

Indication - Intravenous fluid therapy is used to maintain homeostasis and replace any
additional losses.

To supply fluid when clients are unable to take adequate volume by mouth.
To provide salts and other electrolyte needed to maintain electrolyte balance
To establish a lifeline for rapidly needed medications

22G- blue-chemotherapy infusions or patients with small veins (pediatric and elderly)

24G- yellow- fragile veins, elderly or pediatric patients
