2.- RECOMENDATIONS FOR THE STUDY OF THE COURSE CONTENTS

This subject has been conceived to be extremely practical not only in your studies
but in your future professional life. The following items are recommendations are
partly based on the feedback retrieved by different questionnaires delivered to
students who have been enrolled in this course in the past. Others have arisen from
the part of the teaching team as a way to improve their methodology. We hope they
can help:

1. Do not try to learn by heart all the applications contained in this subject. The idea
is to practise at least with ONE of the suggested tools per each section, so that you
can have an idea of the main characteristics of each tool.

2. This subject is being followed by different types of students with different

interests, background and perspectives. We invite you to draw your own road map
to obtain the better results, by focusing on certain tools. Feel free to ask the
teaching team for some recommendations in this respect.

2. Apart from the contents shown in the virtual course (aLF Platform), we will try to
make use of external and complementary sites to enrich the course with more
innovations and relevant events in the field of ICT (blog and twitter). If you
subscribe to any of them, your will receive extra news and announcement to events
of interest in the field of technology applied to English studies.

3. We recommend to study the subject sitting in front of your computer. However

all the contents have been compiled in a pdf per each unit so that you can print
them and read them carefully on your own. You will find several bidi codes spread
all through the notes in the most important urls so that you can access quickly with
more mobile device wherever you are.

4. We will use a wiki and other collaborative spaces to do activities in common. You
may find some elements from previous years. This is completely normal. The idea is
to go on constructing knowledge year after year. Technology moves very quickly
and some of your tasks will be checking that everything remains the same or if we
need to make some amendments in certain sections.

5. Try to think about new multiple choice questions by the end of each unit, so that
you can revise everything you have learnt and you can share at the same time with
UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL DE EDUCACIN A DISTANCIA 4
Jordano, Martn y Pomposo

the rest of students. This year I will suggest different ways to transform plain text
questions into more interactive ones through different authoring tools1.

6. By the end of each unit there will be a 2 hour practise seminar with the teaching
team to go through each tool described. You will be divided into groups to focus on
one single tool. Then, you will have the chance to share your experience with the
rest of attendants. The exact times and dates will be fixed during this course.

7. The wording of the final task will be available from the beginning of the course,
so that you will be able to complete it gradually as you advance in the completion of
each activity.

9. After four years studying at a distance, you have realized about how important
time management is. All the deadlines shown in this chart have been added to aLF
calendar as well so that you can receive alerts when new units are approaching.

The following chart shows the contents that will be studied in the different units of
the course.

designed all through the course in order to acquire better the theory found in each

compulsory activities are considered as part of the subject, as well as the written
exam, not instead of it. If all these activities are completed they will make up 20%
of the final mark.
