Letter of Motivation

I am very keen to become an intern in your Obstetri-Gynaecology department. I

choose this department because I really like the major about reproduction and gynaecology
such as mechanism of our reproduction system, how a woman gets pregnant and how we help
to deliver their baby. But do you know if the number of maternal mortality in my country is
the highest in the South East Asia Region (IDHS 2003)? In my opinion, I think there are
problems in my country about behavior and nutrition education of mothers pregnancy. Not
only about pregnancy but also about sexual behavior. There are many bad sexual behaviors
for example free sex without using condom which can cause sexually transmitted diseases
such as HIV/AIDS , gonorrhea and others.

Indonesia is facing an increasing number of HIV/AIDS cases, particularly among

commercial sex workers and infection of drug users. According to a report released recently
by World Health Organization, Papua region is facing a generalized epidemic. Therefore, I
hope I can be a doctor who brings significant changes to my environment. I want to get the
knowledge in other countries especially learning about science as much as possible.

Morover, the fact in Indonesia, the country where I come from, is recorded that
maternal mortality rates are still high, but in the other side there are other countries that can
reduce maternal mortality better than Indonesia did. It makes me believe that there are some
differences for handling and solving gynecological problems in each country which could be
shared. Moreover, when millennium declaration is created in 2000 which called MDGs
(Millennium Development Goals). That one of its aim is to improving maternal health and
reducing child mortality. Its really challenging and interesting for me to learn more about
gynecology abroad.

I strongly believe that an internship by your department will provide me the

necessary knowledge that would be helpful to my clinicaly field work in the future and make
me become more experienced. Thats why If you give me the opportunity to study and
expand my knowledge in your department, it would be more than an amazing opportunity for
me.
