2
1 The consignment consists of:
1 Electronic precision top-loading balance
1 Balance pan with pan support
1 Power cable
1 Plastic dust cover
1 Installation and operation manual

2 UNPACKING
2.1 Open card board box. Take out balance with polystyrene packing.
2.2 Unpack balance pan and pan support.
2.3 Remove polystyrene packing and protective plastic cover.
2.4 Retain packing material for possible future use.

3 CHECKING OPERATING VOLTAGE

3.1 The operating voltage is stated on the label attached to the balance.
3.2 lf voltage setting is different from local voltage, procede according to paragraph 12.

4 INSTALLATION
For installation select a location not subject to excessive temperature changes, air currents
or vibrations.
4.1 Install pan support and place balance pan onto support.
4.2 Connect balance to power source and turn on switch "B".
4.3 Level balance by turning levelling screws "C". Observe spirit level "D".

5 CHECKING AND ADJUSTMENT

Insensitivity of the balance depends " on varying earth rotation velocities at different points
of location and must therefore be checked and adjusted.
5.1 Turn on switch "B". Allow balance to warm up for at least 20 minutes.
5.2 Press tare sensor "F" to zero balance.
5.3 To check sensitivity .calibration place weight equal to the weighing range on to the balance
pan.
5.4 lf a correction is necessary use sensitivity adjustment "G" to adjust the read-out according
to the applied check weight:
G1 = low weighing range
G2 = high weighing range
5.5 lf the sensitivity cannot be set with sensitivity adjustment "G" carry out coarse sensitivity
adjustment according to Paragraph 11 and thereafter fine-adjustment with G1/G2.
5.6 Repeat check according to 5.2 and 5.3.

3
6 CHANGE OF WEIGHING RANGE

When changing from the low to the high range the previous zero-point is retained. This,
however, is not possible when changing from the high to the low range, as any deviation
would be multiplied by 10.

7 WEIGHING PROCEDURES
7.1 Regular weighing
7.1.1 Set weight indication to zero by pressing tare sensor "F".
7.1.2 Place load on to weighing pan. Read weighing result after illumination
of stability indicator "g".

7.2 Weighing-in
7.2.1 Place tare container on to balance pan.
Press tare sensor to zero balance.
7.2.2 Fill sample material into tare Container. Read net weight.
7.2.3 The preceding procedure can be continued as often as necessary up to the maximum
capacity.
7.2.4 Gross weight will appear as a minus value, if the weight indication is tared to zero prior to
removal of the load from balance pan.

7.3 Weighing to a pre-set value

7.3.1 Example: Pre-set value: 50 g
7.3.2 While adding sample material observe 10 gram decade until "4" is indicated.
7.3.3 Proceed with filling until readout of "49" is obtained.
7.3.4 Continue filling procedure and watch other decades accordingly.

7.4 Weighing below balance

(Model 3716 only; model 3713/3719 see special accessories)
Model 3716 is equipped with a hook for weighing below the balance. lf desirable, pull black
stopper out of the base plate to uncover hook. Usually the Standard flat pan is not removed
when weighing below the balance but if the special pan or hanger for weighing below
weighs more than the weighing pan and pan support these could be removed to avoid
reduction of the balance capacity.

7.5 Check weighings

Apply and weigh desired Standard weight. Tare weight indication to zero. Place samples
onto pan and balance will then indicate plus and minus variations from the Standard weight.

4
8 MALFUNCTIONS
Weight indication does not light up, decimal point does not light up:
Power supply
Supply voltage
Balance not switched on
Weight indication does not light up, decimal point lights up:
Overload
Weight indication is changing continuously:
Balance not switched on long enough, operating temperature not reached
Unsatisfactory installation conditions (draft, vibrations)
Weighing result not correct:
Unsatisfactory installation conditions
Balance not levelled
Sensitivity setting not correct
lf balance is still not functioning, call your nearest Sartorius service engineer.

9 PACKING BALANCE FOR TRANSPORT

Use original packing material only.

9.1 Pull out power cable and take off balance pan and pan support and wrap in soft paper.
9.2 Fit balance into protective plastic cover and fit polystyrene packing.
9.3 Place wrapped balance pan and pan support between polystyrene packing.
9.4 Push balance with polystyrene packing into cardboard box.
