MBA 106 Current Issues in Accounting Prof. Eduardo de Gracia

Final Requirement: Considering your whole experience in the course, answer briefly the following:

1. In your personal life or in your present work, how can you apply what you experienced and
learned in the course? (Be specific by citing situations or plans to support your answer).

The course reminded me of my fathers perspective and fueled my passion to follow his
imprints. He always emphasized that having my own business is way far better than being a
mere employee. The course affirmed me that my father is right. Business tycoons easily
outsmarted the government with there taxes but the middle-income earners are helpless with
their withholding tax. So, I have to start planning and preparing to launch my own business.

During the reporting, I didnt remember anyone mentioned about Company Policies. I
believe that majority of those Accounting Issues arises due to a poor implementation of the
Company Policies and proper procedures were not followed through. People tend to minimize
the importance of a Company Policy but these policies serve as guidelines in every decision in
the company. RFN Glass doesnt have any Company Policy. Most decisions are being influenced
by the spur of the moment and gut-feel. One of my resolutions for the RFN Glass is to come up
with a Company Policy. Secondly, RFN Glass must choose financial institutes that offer cheaper
interest rates. A Cooperative is a lot cheaper than Bombay. Finally, RFN Glass must separate
business from personal expenses.

2. As a form of applicatory exercise on critical thinking based on the process experienced in the
course,
a. Report on the relevance and effectiveness of the Research Fair of the graduate school
conducted on the afternoon of May 25, 2013.

The Research Fair puts a balance between the Qualitative Research and Quantitative
Research. It emphasized that one is not better than the other. Instead of asking whether one
will do a Qualitative or Quantitative Research, one must first consider what his / her research is.
After choosing the topic, thats the time one can chose what kind of Method you will do to bring
out the best in your topic.

b. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the process of the course. Recommend how the
weaknesses can be improved.
The strength of the course is its environment where ideas flows from different perspective
and a healthy discussion was encouraged. The process of the course is great but we need to
spice it up to make it more exciting! A point system question and answer discussion might be
considered.
