CONCLUSION

In this experiment, we have achieved the objective which is to determine reaction,

displacement and internal shear and bending moment in a portal frame. The portal frame that
we conduct the experiment has two support which is pin support and fix support. There were
4 reactions acting on both supports. For the displacement, the data can be obtained by
applying the load starting from 2N to 10N. Displacement increase continuously as the load
been added. For 2N the displacement taken was 0.04mm then increased as the load added to
4N, 6N, 8N and 10N which is the displacement was 0.12mm, 0.21mm, 0.32mm and 0.39mm.

As for the internal shear and bending moment, it been calculated by using the horizontal force
and the displacement that obtained after applying the load. The maximum shear force for 2N
load was 1.0, for 4N was 2.1 and for 6N, 8N, and 10N was 3.2N, 4.4N and 5.4N. The
bending moment calculated increase as the load increases. The bending moment for 2N load
was 0.305Nm while at the biggest load is 1.642Nm. Bending moment for 4N, 6N, and 8N
was 0.641Nm, 0.976Nm, and 1.342Nm.

From the data obtained, there may some error occur caused by a few factors. There may an
error occur during measuring span of the frames that affected the data because calculation
been make according the span length. Error also happen when the apparatus not been set to
zero before applying the load and record the data. There were some recommend that can be
used to get the accurate for the experiment. Firstly, make sure been measure correctly with
suitable apparatus which is measuring tape and been read properly. Then, students must
handle the apparatus correct and systematically to ensure getting an accurate data.

From experiment, it is obviously shown that more load been applying to the portal frame, the
bigger the displacement at the roller and also the more load apply, the shear force and
bending moment will increases.
