Product Idea: Concrete Bowling Ball
Introduction
What is concrete?
Concrete is a composite material composed of aggregate
bonded together with a fluid cement which hardens over time.
Most use of the term "concrete" refers to Portland cement
concrete.

Activity 1 : Hunting for Concrete objects:
Activity 2
Comparing different cement formulations:
Objectives :
I. Find out how Calcium Chloride (CaCl2)
and Sugar affect the speed of the
chemical reaction time between cement
and water.
Portland Additives
Sample Water
Cement Salt
Sugar
CaCl2

A 200 g 100 ml - -
B 200 g 100 ml - 6g
C 200 g 100 ml 1g -
Conclusion
Sample C hardens faster than the other samples because salt is catalyst
Sample B hardens slower than the other samples because sugar is anit-
catalyst
Activity 3
Comparing different concrete formulations

Objective:
I. Find out how different mixtures
of aggregate affect the Density of
concrete.

Sample 1:
Coarse 100 g 60 cm3 1.67 g/cm3

Sample 3 100 g (50g

50 cm3 2 g/cm3
(Mixed): coarse, 50g)
Activity 3
Conclusion:
Sample C which has 50% coarse aggregate to total
aggregate ratio has the highest density

Designing project: Concrete
Bowling Ball
Our target to make a ball that weights less than 5 Kg using the below
materials
Cement
Water
Fly ash
Silica
aggregate
Concrete Balling Ball
The below materials were used to make the ball

Conclusions

The best ratio for the best bowling ball is

cement:water:aggregate are 1.5:1:3 including
additives to create the best combination possible
for the sturdiest concrete bowling ball.
