AP17_06: A Study on influence of RC shear wall with openings

and outriggers in high rise steel structures subjected to dynamic

loads.

OBJECTIVES

1. To understand the behaviour of the high rise steel structures subjected to

earthquake loads.
2. To study the effect of introduction of shear wall and outrigger in high rise
steel structures.
3. To study the effect of combined shear wall and outrigger in high rise steel
structures.
4. To study the effect of presence of openings in shear wall on behaviour of
steel structure.
METHEDOLOGY

1. In this study high rise steel structure of 50 stories subjected to lateral

earthquake loads is considered.
2. Analysis is carried out using equivalent static method using IS 1893-2002 for
high seismic zone (V) and dynamic time history analysis using ETABS.
3. Efficiency of high rise steel structures with respect to the base shear,
displacement, drift and acceleration are found out for all types of buildings.
4. Further analysis is extended with the incorporation of outrigger and RC
shear wall separately and responses of the steel structure is extracted.
5. Location of shear wall is selection at the core of the building where steel
structure is analysed with and without openings in core wall.
6. Openings is provide for accessing lift at the core wall.
7. Hence total six models are analysed i.e., Steel frame, Steel frame with shear
wall, Steel frame with Outrigger, Steel frame with shear wall openings, Steel
frame with outrigger and shear wall and Steel frame with outrigger and shear
wall with openings.
8. Based on the results extracted from six models, discussions are made and
conclusions are drawn indicating the effect of openings in shear wall and
outrigger in high rise steel structure.
