Summary: In the paper written by Steven J Gold, the author examines the social and academic

experience of international students, international students source of funding, the economic


impact of such a large group of international students in the US on US economy. At the end the
paper, the author introduced and presented an abundant amount of photos of the Globalfest at
Michigan State University and how it can benefit both the international community and local
community.
Evaluation: When examining the economic impact of international students and their sources of
funding for international students, the author utilized specific data to illustrate his point which
makes his argument more credible and gives the audience a more direct impression of the
impact. When introducing the Globalfest in Michigan State University, a lot of photos were
presented to give the audience a sense of what the global scene in Michigan University is like.
Reflection: This essay can be helpful for the government to better understand how the
presence of international student can have an impact on US economy so that corresponding
decisions can be made. Also, this paper can be helpful for administrative staff of universities to
organize events similar to Globalfest so that the international communities in their colleges can
have a better experience and the local communities can know more about different cultures.

Summary: In this article by Reiko Hirai, Patricia Frazier, and Moin Syed, scientific measures

specific. It carefully examines how international students adapt in American campus, and all the
methods, data, and sources of theories are cited. However, this article may also be a little bit
tedious to read because of its genre.

Reflection: Because this academic article carefully examines the process of how international
students adapt to American campus, it can provide useful and credible data for future research.
Also, international students may also find it helpful for it illustrate adaptation process, and let
them know that they are not alone in their struggle. Also, the information presented in this article
can help them find suitable way to adapt better.

Summary: This article focuses on the difficulties international students at Sierra Nevada
College face.Normally, international students have issues with finding a job because they are
only allowed to work on campus, also, it is really confusing and frustrating for them to keep their
immigration document in order. The Sierra Nevada College also actively help international
students adapt to new culture and socialize by holding international students meetings Although
it is challenging for international students to study in the US, most of the international students
cherish their opportunities they have here.

Evaluation: This article is very reader friendly. It employs simple and colloquial language so
that the readers can read and understand easily. Also, this article illustrate the challenges
international students might have from a wide range of perspectives, from jobs to immigration
status to social and academic life. In this article, the author also included the conversation he
had with international students, which makes the article more credible and help the readers
relate to the international students.
Reflection: This article can be helpful for the school authorities to better understand the
struggles international students have and organize corresponding events to help them because
it includes most of the challenges international students face and how Sierra Nevada College is
devoted to help them.

Summary: Firstly, this article focuses on the cultural shock most international student
experience when they first came to the US. The cultural shock can be from many aspects, from
social relations to food to education.Then, The author states that english can be a barrier for
international students to adapt to new environment. However, in University of Cincinnati, there
are tools to help international students to tour the campus and to navigate the admission
process.
Evaluation: The author used a lot of quotation from interview with current international students
about their struggles and how they cope with them. I think these quotations really make the
passage more appealing and personal because it is about personal experiences. However, I
think the author can include more information about how University of Cincinnati can help
international students adjust to American campus life.
Reflection: As an international student, I get a feeling of intimacy when I read this because of
how deeply I can relate to the passage. I think this passage can be useful for international
students to let them know what kind of struggles other international students are going through
and that they are not alone in this.

Summary: In this research article, the authors discuss how international students can contribute
to American universities academically, financially and increases the diversity. Also, the
difficulties that international students face are also stated in the article. Those difficulties include:
language barrier, prejudice and discrimination from local students, social cultural difficulties and
cultural shock. There are resources if help that international students can turn to, for example,
counseling services, student organizations, etc.
Evaluation: This research paper provides comprehensive analyzation of the importance of
international students in American universities and the difficulties they face. This article is highly
credible because it includes relevant data and actual interview with international students.
Although adjustments were introduced,this article does not provide information about how the
adjustments that international students make affect their experience in American campus.
Reflection: University authorities may find the part that includes the interview with international
students helpful because it directly and veritably reflects the problems international students
face and it helps them make corresponding decisions to help international students adapt to the
new environment.

Summary: This video is a story about an international student from Abidjan named Ismael. In
this video, he talked about his experience of studying abroad in a chronological order. He first
talked about the reasons why he wants to study in the US and how he managed to achieve his
dreams. Then, he talked about his experience on the airplane and in the airport to illustrate the
difficulties he had encountered in the US. Later, he introduced us to the international advisor on
campus and how his interactions with her helped him adjust to his new life. Now, as a fully
adjusted student, he offered some valuable advice to incoming international student about how
they can better adjust to their new life.
Evaluation: This video has a light-hearted atmosphere, when watching this video, the audience
feel very connected to his experience and can feel that he is very genuine. This video definitely
offers some insights about how international students deal with their problems and his advice
might be helpful for them However, the advices he presented in this video are based on his
personal experience and might not apply to everyone else.
Reflection: This video is directly related to my research project because it demonstrates the
process of adaptation for an international student. Also, this video might be helpful for future
international students to understand other peoples problems and learn how they cope with
them.
