Multimedia Project Diary

Aim 4th October 2017

The first thing that I must do today is check my IPL, put my ID badge on and turn my mobile
phone off. I must then complete any milestones that I have set. Furthermore, I need to
delete the original Director files from the mini project to free up some space on the system.
I also need to copy over the Testing Table template that can be found in Moodle and start
a diary that includes Aim, Evidence and Learnt. I will need to complete this every single
lesson on everything that I do to create my multimedia product.

Evidence

The first thing that I did was setting up a new project. I then set the stage size for my
multimedia product. The size I used was 640x480.

Stage size set to

640x480.

Next, I imported all the assets that I am going to be using in the multimedia product. These
include images of all the activities, all the buttons (including the close and home button) and
the titles and headings.
Daniel Crush

Once I had the correct assets I began to create my splash page. I added a blue gradient for the
background and positioned the Gap Travel logo in the top left hand corner as I planned on my
storyboard. Additionally, I placed a close button in the top right hand corner so that the user
will be able to close down the site at any given time. I didnt add any transitions or effects to
these as I think it would look more professional without.

After completing this task, I went and added the title Things to do before you are 30 to the
splash page, which I created in Adobe Photoshop. This will be positioned in the centre of the
page, as it is what the whole multimedia product is about. In addition, to make it more
interesting for the users I added a transition where each letter of the text would appear from
left to right. I did this by going to Library, Behaviours, Animation, Sprite Transitions and
then selecting the Wipe transition. I then dragged this sprite onto the layer in the score
section.

section.
Daniel Crush

The last asset that I needed to add to the splash page was the enter sign that will allow the user
to enter the website, taking them to the contents page. I created this asset in Adobe
Photoshop and imported it into Director. This time I wanted the sign to pop up from the bottom
of the screen. I did this by placing the image off of the stage and then dragging the yellow dot
in the centre towards the middle of the screen.

Drag the centre

of the text/image
to create this
animation effect.

The final thing that I did for the day was coding the page, making it so that the user will have to
click enter to allow anything else to happen. I did this by double clicking just above the
timeline on the place that I wanted the page to freeze at. This brought up the script where I had
to type in go to the Frame. This then froze the page whenever it got to a certain frame, which
in my case was frame 45.

Daniel Crush

Learnt

During this lesson, I have learnt how to set up a document in Director and how to place all
of the assets into the Cast section. I have also placed some of the assets for the splash
screen onto the stage, where I have started to add some animations and transitions.
Additionally, I have set up all the necessary documents where I will be documenting my
journey through creating this product in Director. I will also be testing the product, ensuring
that the product functions well.

Aim 5th October 2017

The first thing that I must do today is check my emails, check my IPL, and to make sure my
ID badge is on. I must then continue creating my product for Gap Travel whilst working on
the Diary and Testing Table.

Evidence

Today I started off by adding three signs, Places To Visit, Things To Do and Thrills onto my
contents page. I kept the logo and close button in the same position as the previous page to
keep it professional and I also added a home button that can take the user back to the splash
page. As you can see from the screenshot, I spaced each image out by a few frames in the
Score section so that one sign can come in one at a time. As well as this, I added a transition
to each of the signs to allow them to slide in from the left side of the page. I did this by going
to Library, Behaviours, Animation, Sprite Transitions and then selecting the Slide
transition. I then dragged this sprite onto each of the sign layers in the score section.

the library
section.
Daniel Crush

Next I added 3 images to contents page. I dragged and dropped them onto the Score section
and placed each image underneath each other on a separate layer. After that, I re-sized them
into a position that I liked. I then began to add a different transition to each of them to keep
the users of the site more interested. I went through the process previously stated for adding
a transition. The 3 that I used were the Fade In Out, Barn Door and Zoom In Out. These
will be shown below.

I then moved onto the sub-contents page for the Places To Visit. Like with the other two
pages, I have kept the logo, home button and close button in the same position. I have then
placed 4 signs into the Score section which include Amsterdam, Rio De Janeiro, Grand
Canyon and Pyramids. These were all created in Adobe Photoshop and imported into
Director as images. As you can see from the screenshot below, all of the signs are spaced out
and on separate layers in the score section in order for the signs to slide in one at a time for
effect.
Daniel Crush

Once I had all of the signs in the correct positions, I added

the same transition to each of them to make it look like
they were sliding onto the page from either side. I went
over to the Library panel in the bottom right corner and
dragged the transition Slide onto each of the sign layers.
After dragging the effect onto the layer a box appeared
where you can change the settings for that transition. For
example, for the Amsterdam and Rio De Janeiro signs I
selected the direction of the transition to be from Left to
Right.

I added the same effect onto the Grand Canyon and Pyramids sign but I changed the
direction to Right to Left. Additionally, on all of the signs I kept the duration at 10.

The final thing that I did for the day was coding the page, making it so that the user will have to
click on a certain sign or the Back button to allow anything else to happen. I did this by double
clicking just above the timeline on the place that I wanted the page to freeze at. This brought up
the script where I had to type in go to the Frame. This then froze the page whenever it got to a
certain frame.

Go to the
Frame coding.
Daniel Crush

Learnt

During this lesson, I have learnt how to add various transitions to different images and I
have also learnt how to do some simple coding to allow the screen to freeze on a certain
frame. As well as that, I have completed the splash page, the contents page and I have
almost completed the sub-contents page for Places to Visit.

Aim 6th October 2017

Today I need to log on and check my emails, my IPL, and to make sure my ID badge is on. I
also need to complete a milestone review that I have set, by the end of the lesson. I must
then continue creating my product for Gap Travel whilst working on the Diary and the
Testing Table.

Evidence

The first thing that I did today was placing in the user instructions for the Places To Visit
sub contents page. Once I did this I then added the transition Slide onto the layer. I set the
direction of the transition from Right to Left and I set the duration to 5.

Next, I added the Back button to the page so that

it can allow the user to go back to the contents
page. Once the button was placed in the bottom
left corner, I went over to the Library section and
selected Behaviours. After that, I went over to
Navigation and dragged over the sprite Go to
Frame X Button onto the back button layer.
Daniel Crush

After dragging the sprite, Go to Frame X Button onto the back button, this box appeared
where you had to link the back button to the correct page, which in my case was the
contents page. The frame that I typed in was 48 as that was where my contents page
began.

I also went back and added this exact sprite (Go to Frame X Button) to the home button
which will allow users to click on the home button on any page and it will take them back to
the splash page.

After dragging the sprite onto the

home button layer, this box
appeared again, where I typed in 1
as I want the home button to take
the user back to the start of the
website.

After completing the splash page, the contents page and the sub contents page it was time
to begin each of the Places to Visit. The first page I was doing was the Amsterdam page.
First of all, I placed the two of the three images of Amsterdam to the left side, to allow
room for text. I also dragged the Amsterdam Title asset onto a separate layer and resized it
into a position that I liked.
Daniel Crush

Furthermore, I then proceeded to add a rollover to

the image that was located towards the top of the
page. I did this by going over to Library,
Behaviours, Animation, Interactive and then
selecting Rollover Member Change. I then dragged
this sprite onto the Amsterdam image in the score
section. After doing this, a box appeared called the
Parameters. Here, you had to select an image from
the dropdown menu on what you wanted to
appear. For me I selected the second image of
Amsterdam. Now, every time you hover your
mouse over the first Amsterdam image, the second
image will replace it.

I then did some simple coding to page, making it so that the user will have to click on the Back
button, Home button or Close button to allow anything else to happen. I did this by double
clicking just above the timeline on the place that I wanted the page to freeze at. This brought up
the script where I had to type in go to the Frame. This then froze the page whenever it got to a
certain frame.

Next, I added the Back button to the page so that it can allow the user to go back to the sub
contents page. Once the button was placed in the bottom left corner (in the same position as
the other page) I went over to the Library section and selected Behaviours. After that, I
went over to Navigation and dragged over the sprite Go to Frame X Button onto the back
button layer.
Daniel Crush

The Parameters box appeared again and

allowed me to change what frame the back
button will take the users once it has been
clicked. In my case, I typed in frame 68 as that
is where my sub contents page for Places To
Visit begins.

I also need to link the Amsterdam page to the Amsterdam sign on the sub contents page
for Places To Visit. I did this by following the same steps as I previously stated and then just
changed the frame. In my case, the frame I chose was 95, as this is where the Amsterdam
page started.

Another effect that I added to the page was a transition on bottom image to make it more
interesting. I went over to the Library, Behaviours, then went to Animation, Sprite
Transitions and selected the Wipe transition. I dragged this sprite onto the Amsterdam 3
image in the score section.

Additionally, I had to set the parameters for the Wipe

transition. I set the duration of the transition to 12
frames and I set the direction from Left to Right.
Daniel Crush

The next step to my Amsterdam page was adding a scrolling textbox that would contain all
of the important information that the customers would need to know about Amsterdam.

In order to make a scrolling textbox, I first had to select the text tool
from the toolbar. I then had to paste in the information I had
researched on Amsterdam into the text box. The information should
stretch off of the page.

Next, I had to go
over to the Text
section that can be
found in the
Property
Inspector.

Next, to make it a scrolling textbox I had to go over to the

Text section that can be found in the Property Inspector.
From here I clicked on the Framing drop down menu and
selected Scrolling. After selecting this, the text box now
scrolls. All I had to do was change the size of it and position
it neatly in line with the images and heading. However, I
was not finished there as I wanted to make the background
transparent and I also wanted the text to be white to
match the colour scheme.

To do this I went over to the Property Inspector

tab again and this time went to the Sprite section.
To change the colour of the text from black to
white I clicked on the colour changer and changed
it to white. (You can choose whatever colour you
want in this menu). In order to make the
background transparent you need to go over to the
Ink dropdown menu and select the Background
Transparent option. This will make the
background of the scrolling textbox transparent.
Daniel Crush

After completing the Amsterdam page I continued to create the Rio De Janeiro, Grand
Canyon and Pyramids pages following the same steps that I used for the Amsterdam
page. As you can see from the screenshots below, the layout is the same for each of them so
that it stays consistent and professional. However, I have not added a scrolling textbox onto
the remaining places; I will be doing that at the end.

Once I had set up all of the pages I then went back and linked them to the signs in the sub
contents menu using the sprite Go to Frame X Button. The Rio De Janeiro sign was linked
to frame 113, the Grand Canyon sign was linked to frame 132 and the Pyramids sign was
linked to frame 151.

Now that the whole of the Places to

Visit section was done it was time to
move onto the Things to Do section.
Like with the previous sub contents
menu, I positioned the signs in the same
place and had the same transitions (the
Slide transition) as the previous sub
contents page. This was to make sure
that the multimedia product stayed
consistent.
Daniel Crush

I also needed to link the Back

button to the contents page. To do
this I went over to the Library
section and selected Behaviours.
After that, I went over to
Navigation and dragged over the
sprite Go to Frame X Button onto
the back button layer in the score
section. I then set the frame to 48.

The final thing that I did today was adding another Go to Frame X Button sprite to the
Things to Do sign on the contents page. This will link the sign to the actual page, allowing the
user to be able to click on the sign and taking them to that specific page. In my case, I set the
frame to 168.

Learnt

During this lesson, I have learnt how to add a rollover to images in my multimedia product. I
have also learnt how to add navigation to different sections, for example making the back
button go back to the previous page. On top of that I have managed to complete the sub
contents page for Places to Visit and I have completed all of the places within that sub
content menu. Finally, I also completed a milestone review that I had set on my ILP.

Aim 9th October 2017

The first thing that I must do today is log on, check my emails, check my IPL, and to make
sure my ID badge is on. I must then continue creating my product for Gap Travel whilst
working on the Diary and Testing Table.
Daniel Crush

Evidence

Today I started off by creating the pages for Route 66, Northern Lights, Skiing and Scuba
Diving. Like with the previous pages I have kept all of the images, headings and text in the
same position along with the same colour theme. On top of that I have included the same
transitions to keep it consistent and professional. As you can see with the screenshot below, I
am linking the Route 66 sign to the Route 66 page. I entered the frame 196, as that is
where the page began.

Furthermore, I then went on linking each sign on the sub-contents menu to its corresponding
page.
Daniel Crush

For example, I added a Go to Frame X Button

onto the Scuba Diving sign and set the frame
to 229. Additionally, I added the same sprite
from the Behaviours section to the Skiing
sign and set the frame to 245, as that was
where the Skiing page began.

Once each sign was linked to its corresponding page, I then linked each of the pages back
buttons to the sub contents menu. Again, I went over to the Library section and selected
Behaviours. After that, I went over to Navigation and dragged over the sprite Go to
Frame X Button onto the back button layer. I then typed in the frame 168, as this was where
the sub contents menu for Things to do began.

Now that the whole of the Things to

do section was done it was time to
move onto the Thrills section. Like
with the previous sub contents menu, I
positioned the signs in the same place
and had the same transitions (the
Slide transition) as the previous sub
contents page. This was to make sure
that the multimedia product stayed
consistent.

I also needed to link the Back button to the contents page. To do this I went over to
the Library section and selected Behaviours. After that, I went over to Navigation
and dragged over the sprite Go to Frame X Button onto the back button layer in
the score section. I then set the frame to 48.
Daniel Crush

After linking the back button

to the contents page I then
linked the Thrills sign to the
Thrills sub contents menu. I
did this by applying the sprite
Go to Frame X Button and
setting the frame to 261.

The next step was creating the different pages in the Thrills section. The first page was Sky
Diving. I did the same layout for these pages as the previous ones, placing the logo, home
button, close button and back button all in the same position. This ensures that the product
is consistent and professional, like the client requested.

Instead of having a rollover on the Sky Diving page I decided to add cycle graphics. To do
this I first had to draw a text box, roughly in the area where I wanted the cycle graphic to
appear.

Next I went over to the Library section and went to

Behaviours and then clicked on the dropdown menu for
Animation. After that, I clicked on another drop down
menu Automatic and then selected the sprite Cycle
Graphics. All I had to do now was drag the sprite onto
the textbox layer.

After applying the sprite to the text box, the Parameters

box appeared where I had to select the desired settings.
For the first and last Member of series you had to select
the images that you wanted to cycle. I chose the Sky
Diving Image 1 and 2. I then set the speed of the cycle to
5.
Daniel Crush

As you can see above, I went on to place all of the assets in the correct position for each of
the remaining activities. These included Swimming with Sharks, Bungee Jumping and
Paragliding.

Learnt

During this lesson, I have learnt how to add a cycle graphics in my multimedia product.
Furthermore, I have managed to add all of the navigation to the Things to do pages and I
completed the sub contents page for Thrills. Also, I have completed all of the thrills pages
within that sub content menu.

Aim 11th October 2017

Today I need to log on, check my emails, check my IPL, and to make sure my ID badge is on. I
must then continue creating my multimedia product for Gap Travel and at the same time I
need to be constantly updating the Diary and Testing Table.
Daniel Crush

Evidence

The first thing that I did today was adding navigation to the remaining pages. This included
linking the Thrills sign to the Thrills pages and linking the Back Button to the sub contents
menu.

For example, I added a Go to Frame X Button

onto the Sky Diving sign and set the frame to
289. Additionally, I added the same sprite
from the Behaviours section to the Bungee
Jumping sign and set the frame to 304, as that
was where the Bungee Jumping page began. I
also added a Go to Frame X Button onto the
Swimming with Sharks sign and set the frame
to 319. Finally, the last Go to Frame X Button
that I had to add was to the Paragliding page,
where I set the frame to 334.

The last bit of navigation that I had to do was a adding a Go to Frame X Button to all of the
Back Buttons on the Thrills pages. I dragged the sprite onto each of the layers and set the
frame to 261, as that is where the sub contents menu for Thrills began.

The final thing I did today was adding

in an animated GIF to the Paragliding
page. Adding a GIF was just like adding
an image; all you had to do was import
the chosen GIF into Director and then
resize it and place it in the desired
position.
Daniel Crush

Learnt

During this lesson, I have learnt how to add an animated GIF to my multimedia product.
Moreover, I have managed to add all of the navigation to the Thrills pages, including
navigation on the Back Buttons.

Aim 12th October 2017

Today I need to log on, check my emails, check my IPL, and make sure my ID badge is on. I
must then completely finish my multimedia product for Gap Travel and I also need to be
finishing off the Diary and the Testing Table. As well as that I need to complete my final
Milestone Review.

Evidence

The first thing that I did today was adding the two videos that the company, Gap Travel
requested. The videos must be no longer than 10 seconds. The two videos that I am including
into the multimedia product are of Sky Diving and Bungee Jumping. First of all, I placed
both videos into Director, as well as the buttons which included start, pause and rewind. I
then positioned them just under the image to left side of the page.

To be able to give the user control of the videos I needed to add a Control Button sprite to
each of them, allowing the user to be able to press play, pause and rewind whenever they
would like.
Daniel Crush

To do this I went over to the Library section and

selected Behaviours. After that, I went over to
Media, then Quicktime and dragged over the
sprite Quicktime Control Button onto each of the
buttons.

For the play button I chose the action Play.

For the pause button I chose the action Stop.

For the pause button I chose the action Rewind.

Furthermore, to make it so the video doesnt start

playing automatically, I went over to the Property
Inspector section in the top right corner and click
on QuickTime. After that, I ticked the box which
said Paused. Additionally, I also wanted to video
to keep playing over and over until the user
pressed on the pause button. To do this all I had
to tick was the Loop option. I did this for both
videos, the Sky Diving one and the Bungee
Jumping one.
Daniel Crush

The final thing that I had to do on the multimedia product for Gap Travel was making the
Close Button close when the user clicks on it.

To do this all I had to do was right click on the Close

Button layer and select Script. After clicking this, the
script box appeared. From here, I simply typed in the
word quit and the close button now worked.

As you can see, every time I click on the close button, Director asks me if I want to save any
changes made before exiting.

In addition, the very final thing I did was adding a scrolling textbox with relevant information
to each of the pages that I had missed out.
Daniel Crush

As you can see from the following screenshots, this is what my timeline looks like after
completing the multimedia product for Gap Travel.
