O
n the auspicious day of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, 15th August 1938, the people of
Ghatkopar and the surrounding suburbs witnessed the birth of Hindi Vidya Prachar Samiti,
a brain child of a visionary Late Shri Nandkishore Singh Jairamji. The Samiti was
established with the objectives of catering to the educational needs of the Hindi speaking community.
It made a humble beginning by starting a primary school, which gradually expanded into a full-fledged
secondary school.
The Hindi High School with its high academic standards has carved for itself a place not only among
leading secondary schools in Mumbai but also educational institutions imparting instructions in Hindi
throughout Maharashtra. With its primary objectives achieved the Samiti decided to extend its frontiers
and broaden its horizons. As a result, Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala College came into existence in 1963,
enabling a larger section of the society to take advantage of the facilities provided for higher education.
In 1976 the Junior College section was introduced and in 1981 the Commerce faculty commenced both
at the Junior and Degree College level.
From 1999-2000 the College has added a number of self-financing courses like BMS, B.B.I, B.Sc. in
C.S., I.T., Biotechnology, M.Sc. in Computer Science and Biotechnology as well as add on courses,
which further hone the special skills of the students.
In 2014 saw a change in education system with greater emphasis being given to employability of youth.
As an effort to realize the dream of Make in India, Digital India, Clean and Green India, we have started
skill based program supported by University Grants commission known as Bachelor in Vocation.
The college has been reaccredited with A Grade by NAAC in 2014 with a CGPA 3.50 and received
the Best College Award (2007-2008) of the University of Mumbai. The College has been bestowed
with IMC RAMKRISHNA BAJAJ PERFORMANCE EXCELLENCE TROPHY, 2010.The
Principal of the college was awarded Best Teacher by Government of Maharashtra in 2011.
Government of Maharashtra conferred the college with JAAGAR JAANIVANCHA (First in
Mumbai Suburban- in 2013 and Second in Mumbai Suburban- in 2014) for safety of girls.
AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
The RAMNIRANJAN JHUNJHUNWALA COLLEGE basically aims at not only catering to the
academic excellence of the students but also providing them with facilities to develop their other
inherent talents. Under the guidance of dedicated and devoted teachers, the students are able to achieve
academic excellence at the University Examinations.
The College is efficiently managed by HINDI VIDYA PRACHAR SAMITI through the Principal and
her team of Vice Principals and Junior College Supervisor. They are ably assisted by devoted and
courteous non-teaching staff.
For the overall development of the students, various associations conduct debates, elocutions, essay
competitions, quiz etc. The Gymkhana provides appropriate facilities for students in indoor and outdoor
games to participate in various sports both at the collegiate and intercollegiate level.
The College also has a Career Counseling and Placement Cell to help students to find Job Opportunities
both during vacations and after graduation.

The College has linguistic minority status. 50% of the seats are reserved for students belonging to Hindi
speaking community as per merit. For the remaining seats reservation policy will be as per the
Directives of the Deputy Director (Junior College) and University of Mumbai.
JUNIOR COLLEGE
i. Students who have passed the S.S.C. Examination conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of
Secondary Education, Pune an examination regarded as equivalent by the State Board are eligible
for admission to the First Year (Std. XI) of the Junior College.
ii. Students who have passed an Examination equivalent to the S.S.C. and conducted by any other
Board, must comply with the procedures of obtaining an eligibility certificate at the time of
admission, from the Mumbai Divisional Office, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher
Secondary Education, Vashi, Navi Mumbai 400703.
DEGREE COLLEGE
i. Students who have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate (H.S.C.) Examination conducted by
the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education, Pune are eligible for
admission to the F.Y.B.A./B.Sc. /B.Com./BMS.(Subject to fulfilling the other conditions).
ii. Students who have passed the H.S.C. or equivalent examination of any other Board, must produce
an eligibility certificate issued by the Eligibility section, University of Mumbai, Kalina, Mumbai
- 400 098.

4. Transfer Certificate:
The rules for issuing Transfer Certificate are as per the ordinance given below:
0.131 If, as a result of a student leaving one college to join another, it will be necessary for him to
count the attendance kept by him in more than one college to enable him to make up the
necessary number of attendance, a Transfer certificate shall not be granted except for reasons
which appear to the executive council to be sufficient and except with the written permission
of the Principal of the college which he intends to join. Provided , however, that in the event of
a student leaving one college to join another after the completion of a term, or terms,it will be
necessary for him to obtain the written permission from the Principal of the college which he
desires to leave and the Principal of the college which he intends to join.
0.132 Student shall make application of Transfer Certificate without unnecessary delay through the
Principal of the college to which they wish to be transferred.
5. Recommendation Letter:
Student applying for post graduate courses to Indian or Foreign Universities may apply on a plain paper
giving the purpose for which the recommendation letter is sought and other personal and academic
details and the name of faculty from whom such a letter is sought. The Principal on scrutiny of the
application will issue relevant instructions to the office to do the needful.

for the final examination. Foreign students will have to show documentary evidence of conversion of
their visa in addition to the above condition for eligibility.
2. Caste Certificate for Validation:
It is applicable only to students belonging to S.C/S.T. /V.J./N.T./O.B.C. /S.B.C./Nav Buddha who wish
to take admission in professional colleges after passing H.S.C. examination. For the validation of the
above certificates, the student has to submit original caste certificate along with two attested xerox
copies and a copy of caste certificate of any of his/her close relative and attested Xerox copy of first
and last page of ration-card on or before 15th October 2016.
3. Migration Certificate:
When a student of Mumbai University, either enrolled in an affiliated college or registered with the
University, wishes to leave the University to join any other University/Board for pursuing any course
of study, he has to obtain a migration certificate from this University. A Student is required to apply in
the prescribed form for the migration certificate to the Registrar of the University through the Principal
of the college/institution last attended by him.
The application for migration certificate has to be accompanied by the Transfer Certificate in original
and a copy thereof.
A duplicate or fresh copy of the migration certificate will not be issued under any circumstances.
If for any reason the student fails to join the University/Board that he had proposed to join, he shall
return the Migration Certificate issued to him within three months from the date of issue of the migration
certificate for cancellation through the Principal of the college/institution through which he applied for
the migration certificate.
4. Transfer Certificate:
The rules for submitting Transfer Certificate to the college are as per the ordinance given below:
0.126 No Student shall at any time be admitted to any other college unless he/she produces Transfer
Certificate from the College he/she leaves.
0.120 The Principal shall be entitled to charge a fee of `100/- for issuing a Transfer Certificate.
Subject to the provisions of ordinance 130, when a Principal receives an application for a
Transfer Certificate more than a month after the opening of a term, he/she may levy an

REFUND OF FEES
JUNIOR COLLEGE
a) If a student informs the institution before the commencement of the academic year that he/she wants
to withdraw and he / she cannot continue his/her education in the same institution for any reasons,
the institution concerned should refund to him/her in full the tuition fees, term fee, laboratory fees
(if any) and library and laboratory deposits, if any actually recovered. The admission fee shall
however, be retained by the Institutions.
EXPLANATION: So far as the F.Y.J.C. Classes are concerned the academic year should be
deemed to have commenced from the 8th day (i.e. excluding Sunday and Public Holidays) from
and including the days of declaration of the S.S.C. Examination result. If the said day of declaration
of result is a working day, or from and including the working day immediately following the day
of declaration of the S.S.C. Examination result if the said date of declaration of results is a Sunday
or Public Holiday.
b) If a student desires to withdraw and applies for refund of fees after the commencement of the
academic year (vide explanation under (a) above) the institutions concerned should retain the
admission fee, term fee and laboratory fee (if any) in full. The laboratory deposits should however
be refunded. So far as the tuition fee is concerned the institution should retain the tuition fee only
for the month (s) beginning from the month in which the academic year had commenced and ending
with the month in which the student had applied for withdrawal of admission or refund of fees. The
tuition fee for the remaining months of the terms should be refunded (for Example, if a student
applies for refund of fee in the month of July, after the academic year has commenced in that month
itself, the Institution should retain the proportionate amount of tuition fees for one month only
namely the month of July. On the other hand, if a student applies for refund of fee in the month of
August, after the academic year has commenced in the month of July, the institution should retain
the proportionate amount of tuition fee for two months only, namely the month of July & August.
If the academic year has commenced in the month of June, the institution should retain the
proportionate amount of tuition fee for three months only, namely the months of June, July &
August).
DEGREE COLLEGE
The Rules (Ordinance 2859) relating to refund of fees after cancellation of admission as per the
University of Mumbai Circular No. UG/412 of 2008 dated 11.09.2008 is given below:
The candidates who have taken admission in under graduate courses in aided and unaided courses
conducted by affiliated Colleges may request for refund of fees after applying in writing for cancellation
of their admission to the course. The refund of fees as applicable shall be made on or before 30th day
after the date of cancellation and thereafter.

2. During College hours every student must wear the lenyard carrying their Identity Card and must
produce it whenever he/she is called upon to do so by the authorities.
3. Students are expected to attend lectures/practicals/tutorials regularly and should not remain absent
without permission from the Principal. Attendance will be taken daily during
lectures/practical/tutorials. Students who are irregular in attendance, and whose progress in various
college tests/examinations is not satisfactory will not be granted their terms.
N.B: The attention of students is drawn to Ordinance 0.119 and 0.115 of the University of Mumbai
which are reproduced below:

In the Faculty of Arts / Science / Commerce the minimum attendance for keeping terms will be
three-fourths of the days on which lectures/practicals are conducted.

1. To keep a term at a College, a student must complete to the satisfaction of the Principal the
courses of the studies prescribed for that term of the class to which the undergraduate belongs.
2. Students are expected to maintain proper discipline in the class as well as within the College
premises and ensure that no disturbance is caused to fellow students of the other classes.
3. Students shall not indulge in anything inside or outside the College that will in any way interfere
with its discipline.
4. Student shall not loiter in the corridors while the classes are in progress.
5. Students should help in keeping the college premises tidy and should not damage any property
of the college by disfiguring walls, doors, fittings & furniture etc.
6. Students should not communicate any information to the press or write in the press about any
matter concerning the college without the permission of the Principal.
7. If for any reason, the continuance of a student in the college is found to be detrimental to the
best interest of the college in the opinion of the Principal, he/she will be asked to leave the
college.
8. Government or College Scholarship/Free Studentship will be granted only to such student who
are regular in attendance and whose conduct and progress are satisfactory.
9. It is the responsibility of students to see notice boards regularly and fill up the respective forms
for freeships/scholarships from government. Students changing from one College to another
will be required to produce a No Objection Certificate from the Principal of the College
previously attended as well as from Director of Education and/or Social Welfare Officer.
10. Smoking/Chewing Pan/Tobacco and Spitting are strictly prohibited in the college.
11. Matters not covered by the existing rules will rest at the discretion of the Principal.

2. Rules regarding promotion to S.Y.J.C.
According to the rules of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & HigherSecondary Education,
Pune, promotion to the S.Y.J.C. Class will be determined on the basis of the marks obtained in:
(a) 75% of the attendance is necessary for the promotion to next class.
(b) The final result of a students performance will be decided on the basis of the average of the
marks obtained at these tests/examination in the F.Y.J.C class.

3. F.Y./S.Y./B.A./B.Com./B.Sc. Degree College Examination
University of Mumbai has introduced Credit Based Semester and Grading System (CBSGS) for Degree
College students and is applicable to the students (learners) admitted (enrolled) for Undergraduate and
Postgraduate degree programmes under the faculties of Arts, Science & Commerce (For the third year
of the U.G. and Part II of P.G. programme from academic year 201314 onwards). It is applicable to
both traditional & self-financing undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes under the
faculties of Arts, Science & Commerce.
1. Under the Credit Based Semester and Grading System, each course shall be treated as
independent head. Hence the grade for a particular course will be based on the combined
performance at the Internal Assessment & Semester End Examination.
2. Under CBSGS, for each subject, learner would appear for internal and external examinations.
Minimum 10 out of 25 (internal) and minimum 30 out 75 (External) of are required to be
scored by the learner and shall be declared pass only if he/she passes in internal and external
together.
Theory : Minimum of 40% required in both Internal and External for passing in each
semester.
Practical : Minimum of 40% required in both Internal and External for passing in each
semester.
3. For a three year integrated course, learner will have to complete six semesters. The College on
behalf of University will conduct the Semester End Examination for Semester I, II, III and IV
only. Semester End Examinations of Semester V and Semester VI will be conducted by the
University of Mumbai.

4. A learner who does not appear i.e. remains absent for Examination in some or all the courses
on medical grounds or for representing the college / university in sports, cultural activities,
activities of NSS, NCC or Sports training camps conducted by recognized bodies / competent
authorities OR fails in some or all the courses OR punished under O.5050(12)(1) only (use
of unfair means)OR for any other reason which is considered valid under exceptional
circumstances and to the satisfaction of the Principal or the Head of the Institution, is eligible
to appear for the additional examination.
A learner who does not appear for both the Internal Assessment and Semester End
Examination shall NOT be eligible to appear for the additional Semester End
Examination.
5. The additional examination for semester I, II, III, and IV will be conducted by the college for
the learners who have failed or remained absent in the regular examination 20 days after the
date of declaration of results, but not later than 40 days. The additional examinations of the
class test and/or assignment and/or projects of the Internal Assessment will be conducted 15
days prior to the commencement of the Semester End Examination.
6. The Additional Semester End Examination shall be conducted only for Semester I, II, III and
IV by the College/s. Additional Semester End Examinations will NOT be conducted for
Semester V and Semester VI.
7. The learner who has failed in the Semester End Examination and/ or in the Additional
Examination shall be allowed to appear for the ATKT examination which will be conducted
for the same semester of next academic year.
8. There shall be a grade card showing the credits accumulated or earned and the Semester Grade
Point Average (SGPA) of that semester as well as for the earlier semester and GPA/SGPA
will be calculated accordingly. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) will be calculated
on the grade card of Semester VI which includes SGPA of all semesters and grade will be
awarded on the basis of the same.
9. A learner who is admitted to the Odd Semesters i.e. Semester I / III / V shall be eligible to the
next even Semester i.e. Semester II / IV / VI even if the learner fails in all the courses at the
odd semester.
10. A learner is eligible to be admitted to Semester III if the learner passes all the courses of
Semester I and Semester II OR the learner fails in not more than 2 courses each of Semester I
and Semester II for B.Com and B.A course and not more than 3 courses each of Semester I and
Semester II for B.Sc course.
11. In case of a learner who is admitted to Semester IV with no full credits in Semester I and
Semester II, the Internal Assessment of the Semester IV examination shall be conducted by the
college. However, such a learner shall be eligible to appear for the Semester End
Examination of Semester IV only if the learner passes in all the courses of Semester I and
Semester II.
12. The grade sheet of such a learner who is admitted to Semester IV but has not passed all the

courses of Semester I and Semester II and thus is not eligible to appear for the Semester End
Examination of Semester IV will show the marks obtained by the learner at the Internal
Assessment IV only at Semester IV.
13. The performance of the Semester End Examination will show N.E. (Not Eligible) on the
grade card in such cases.
14. The learner shall earn the credits only after appearing for semester end examination and
qualifying in the concerned courses in full.
15. A leaner is eligible to be admitted to Semester V if the learner has passed all the courses of
Semester I, Semester II, Semester III and Semester IV or the learner has passed all the courses
of Semester I & Semester II but has failed in not more than two courses for Arts and Commerce
and three courses for Science of Semester III and Semester IV.
16. A learner who is admitted to Semester V shall be eligible to be admitted to Semester VI
irrespective of the number of courses in which the learner fails at Semester V. The college shall
conduct the Internal Assessment of such learner for Semester VI and this learner will also be
eligible to appear for Semester End Examination of Semester VI conducted by the University.
However the result of Semester VI Examination & thus CGPA of such a learner will NOT be
declared till the learner passes all the courses of Semester I, II, III, IV and V.
17. The Final Grade shall be awarded after the calculation of GPA/SGPA as mentioned in the
manual.
18. The Grade Point table and the grade allocation shall be as per the Grade Table given below:

19. Verification of Marks:
The facility of verification of marks is available to learners. The learner should apply
within 10 days of declaration of result with a prescribed fee of `50 per paper.
The students have the facility of obtaining Photocopy of the assessed answer books by
applying within seven days of declaration of result and on payment of `100 per paper
College shall supply Photocopy in person within 7 Days from date of receipt of
application.
On Receipt of Photocopy, student may apply for redressal of grievances to the college
in the prescribed form on payment of fees of `250 per paper
Change of marks, if any shall be communicated and revised mark list will be given on
surrendering the original mark sheet.

The College also runs a Study Centre which provides facilities to students of other Colleges residing
in/near Ghatkopar. The Library and study Centre are closed on Sundays and Public Holidays. From
January onwards both the library and Study Centre are kept open on Sundays and most holidays between
10.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. The library is computerised to facilitate quick searching of books. Free internet
facility is available for students. Additional reading rooms are open 24 hours from February to May.
RULES PERTAINING TO THE LIBRARY
1. While entering the library, students should carry both, their Identity Card as well as Library Card.
2. Students will ensure that they do not disturb other students in the Library.
3. Books are issued for home reading for a period of one week only against demand slip (duty filed
and signed) on days notified for this purpose. Reference Books and prescribed text books kept in
the reading hall, Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, Atlases and other classified as reference books must
be used in the library only during working hours.
4. Students should desist from marking library books with pencil or ink or mutilating them. Books
found damaged/mutilated must be brought to the notice of librarian at time of issue, failing which
the last reader will be held responsible for the same. Students found damaging/mutilating books,
periodicals will be required to compensate for the damage. Further, at the discretion of the
librarian, such student may not avail of library facilities thereafter.
5. Students who have enrolled through the College as post graduate students will be required to pay
library deposit of Rs.400/- for borrowing books for home reading.
6. Students failing to return books issued for home reading on or before the due date will be liable
to pay a fine of Rs. 15/- per day till such time as the book is returned.
7. Students will not be issued more than one book at a time for home reading. While returning books
students will ensure that the necessary entry of return is made in his/her presence.
8. Books issued against the Identity card are for use in the Reading Hall only and must be returned
while leaving the library. Disciplinary action will be taken against students violating this rule.
9. The Students are required to maintain silence in the Reading Hall.
10. All Departments have departmental Library with open access.
GYMKHANA
The activities of the Gymkhana are managed by the Gymkhana Managing Committee under the sole
charge of a senior member of the staff as its Chairperson responsible for co-ordinating the activities in
various fields of sports, both-indoor and outdoor. Each game/department is directly controlled by a staff
member as a Sports Director, and a student secretary.
Since the College does not have its own play-ground, arrangements are made to hire grounds/playing
fields in different localities for each sport game.
Expert coaches are appointed whenever necessary to train students in different games. College
celebrates Annual Sports Day. Provision exists to admit outstanding sportsmen/women and incentives

are provided to such players by way of sports scholarship /free ship. College colours are awarded for
outstanding performances on the field.
National Cadet Corps (N.C.C)
The College enrolls students for the Senior Division N.C.C. under the 6thMaharashtra Bn N.C.C. The
cadets get opportunity to attend various camps such as A.T.C., N.I.C., Army Attachment and Parasailing
to name a few. Cadets are also encouraged to try to get selected for the Republic Day Parade. Various
camps/exhibitions are also conducted within the College.
National Service Scheme (N.S.S)
Students are encouraged to participate in Social Services through its NSS unit, which is very active and
involves the students in various projects related to Community based development, Environment issues,
Child Welfare, Poverty eradication programmes, Cleanliness drive etc in rural area. It also conducts an
Annual Camp during the winter vacation.
SAP
Forum for Self Awareness Programme: To highlight the importance of basic human values and their
relationship with the blossoming of human personalities. Students showcase their learning in a fest
called Utsav.
Life Long Learning and Extension
Students are trained to undertake projects in identified areas like survey of status of women in society,
Careers, Information and Communication technology, population education club, student management
etc.
R J Rotaract Club
R J Rotaract Club is ranked among the top ten Rotaract clubs of city of Mumbai. Students carry out
plethora of community activities through this club
ASSOCIATIONS
1. The College runs several Associations which are social, linguistic and cultural in nature. The
English Literary Association, Marathi Wangmaya Mandal, Kannada Sangha, Hindi Sahitya
Parishad, Commerce Association, Finance and Accounting Association, Economics Association,
Philosophy Association, History Association, Geo Club, Political Science Association, Sociology
Association, Chem- bond, Space Point Club, Nature Club, Statistica, Maths club, Research Cell.
These Associations enable students to participate in a variety of co-curricular activities. Under
the auspices of these associations talks, discussions and exhibitions are held throughout the year.
2. The college also has a Speakers Forum to train students in the art of debating, elocution, facing
an interview panel, group discussion etc.
3. Through its Cultural Association, the College encourages students to participate in Cultural Youth
Festivals and compete in singing, acting, dancing competitions at the Inter - Collegiate and Intra-
Collegiate Level. Exhibitions like Drawing, Rangoli, Painting, Photography etc. are organised.
4. In debates and other meetings, the Guest/Chairman to be invited must be approved by the
Principal. The Subject of debate or discussion should also be similarly approved.

6. The Principal is the Ex-Officio President of a College Association or Society and her decision
shall be final and binding in the matter.
HINDI CENTRE
The Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mumbai, Dr. B.L. Mungekar inaugurated the HINDI
CENTRE on the campus. This centre conducts various seminars, workshops related to Hindi Literature
and invites renowned literary personalities to participate in the intellectual discussions. The HINDI
VIDYA PRACHAR SAMITI, our Managing Body took keen interest in the development of the P.G.
Centre in Hindi which also offers doctoral program in Hindi.
GENERAL COUNSELLING
The College has appointed, for the benefit of the students, a professional counsellor. The students
consult the counsellor regarding their personal and emotional problems or problems related to their
studies in the campus. The counsellor also conducts workshops on personality development and
emotional behavior etc. for the benefit of the students.

The College conducts a series of Lectures by eminent personalities from different fields, to guide
students regarding their Career Options. The placement cell organises an annual career fair VISTAS

WOMENS DEVELOPMENT CELL
As per the guidelines of the Vice-Chancellor of University of Mumbai, the College has introduced a
Womens Development Cell in the academic year 2002 -2003. The main objective of the cell is to look

ANTI RAGGING SQUAD
The College has an Anti-Ragging Squad and Anti-Ragging Committee .Ragging is totally banned in
the college. Ragging would be met with exemplary punishment. A Student found guilty of ragging
earlier will not be admitted. The college strictly follows all the regulations as mentioned in the UGC
Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009. All
students will give an undertaking that he or she is aware of the law regarding prohibition of ragging as
well as the punishments, and that he/she if found guilty of the offence of ragging and /or abetting ragging
is liable to be punished appropriately. A similar undertaking shall be taken from the parents that they
are also aware of the law in this regard.
Students and parents are informed that ragging is banned and shall be considered as a serious offence
which will attract severe punishment. Parents are requested to emphasize on their wards the seriousness
of the offence and instruct them not to indulge in ragging.

3. Class Social and Get Together may be permitted provided the Principal is satisfied that such
function is being organized under the guidance / supervision of a staff member and the function
does not disturb the normal teaching schedule of the College.
