ABSTRACT:

RFID Enabled Transportation System

This technology eradicates the general problem of missing school buses

by students who are very close to the bus stop / bus. With this

technology, a student can communicate with the bus driver, in case, he /

she is in close range of 0 8 meter from the bus by switching on a

button, integrated with a RFID chip installed in his identity card. The

moment a student switch on the button, an audio / visual indication

informs the bus driver that a student of his bus is in a close proximity and

he stops the bus immediately allowing the student to board the bus.
BRIEF SUMMARY:

(a) PROBLEM:

A very common problem faced by students is of missing the

school bus despite being very close to it. Most of the society

walls are around 6 8 meter high and there is a lot of rush at

the society gate view as many school buses, private vans etc.,

gather to drop / pick the students at the very same time. In this

chaos, the school bus drivers has only a few minutes to park the

big bus and wait as there is a long que of buses waiting . Often

it has been seen students running and shoutingbehind the

buses who were very close to the society gate or the bus is just

passing in front of them at the driver could not spot them and

left. As the student does not have any means to communicate

with the bus driver, they have no choice except to miss the

school that day.

(b) SOLUTION:
Considering to solve the problem ibid, we have designed a

working protocol in a very simple and useful way, named as a

RFID Enabled Transportation System.

In this system, a student carrying a school identity card is

installed with a small RFID chip behind it to communicate with a

particular school bus within a range of 0 8 meter. The moment

a student switch on the button provided in his / her identity card,

a radio signal goes from the RFID transmitter (provided in the ID

card) to the RFID receiver provided in the school bus. The audio

/ visual alarm then indicates to the driver that a student is in a

close proximity of the bus. The bus driver will stop the bus so

that the student can board in it and do not miss the school.

Situation 2:
DISCRIPTION:

For the working of this RFID Transportation system, following

components are required:

1. RFID Transmitter

2. RFID receiver

3. Indicators

1. RFID TRANSMITTER:

A RFID transmitter is an electronic circuit which transforms electric

power from a battery or electrical mains into a radio

frequency alternating current, which reverses direction millions to billions

of times per second. The energy in such a rapidly reversing current can

radiate off a conductor (the antenna) as electromagnetic waves (radio

waves). The transmitter also impresses information such as an audio or

video signal onto the radio frequency current to be carried by the radio

waves. When they strike the antenna of a RFID receiver, the waves

excite similar (but less powerful) radio frequency currents in it. The RFID

receiver extracts the information from the received waves within desired

frequency.
2. RFID RECEIVER:

A RFID receiver is an electronic device that receives waves and

converts the information carried by them to a usable form. It is used with

an antenna. It intercepts radio waves (electromagnetic waves) and

converts them to tiny alternating currents which are applied to the RFID

receiver, and the RFID receiver extracts the desired information. The

RFID receiver uses electronic filters to separate the desired radio

frequency signal from all the other signals picked up by the antenna,

an electronic amplifier to increase the power of the signal for further

processing, and finally recovers the desired information

through demodulation.

The information produced by the RFID receiver may be in the form of

sound (an audio signal), images (a video signal) or digital data. A RFID

receiver may be a separate piece of electronic equipment or

an electronic circuit within another device.

3. INDICATOR:

A speaker as well as an illuminating bulb has been installed for

indication to the driver. The moment a student switches ON the button

provided in his / her ID card, it will activate the RFID transmitter which
send radio waves to the RFID receiver, in response to which the bulb get

illuminated in the bus with a beep alarm.

Alternatively, a Holographic display can be installed in the bus to give a

more clear and detailed information about the student. This display

forms image in air and do not requires any physical screen. With this

holographic display, driver will not divert from driving and will get the

student information without any hassles. A brief description of

holographic display is given as follows:

A holographic display is a type of display that utilizes light diffraction to

create a virtual three-dimensional image of an object. Holographic

displays are unique from other forms of 3D imaging in that they do not

require the aid of any special glasses or external equipment for a viewer

to see the image.

ADVANTAGES:

The main advantage of the RFID Enabled Transportation System is as

follows:

1. This innovation is cost effective.

2. It solves a very basic and reoccurring problem of missing the school

bus by few seconds.

3. It does not distress the driver as no two way communication is

required.

LIMITATIONS:

This system is very efficient and useful though it has some limitations,

which can be overcome in future with the technological advancement.

1. The range of this system is limited which do allow connections only to

a limited distance.

2. It also requires regular recharging of battery for disrupted power

supply

CONCLUSION:

Though having some limitations, this system provides concrete solution

to the problem face by students. This innovation can create revolution in

transportation sector.
