First language

A first language, native language or mother tongue is a language that a person has been
exposed to from birth or within the critical period. In some countries, the term native
language or mother tongue refers to the language of one's ethnic group rather than one's
first language. Children brought up speaking more than one language can have more than
one native language, and be bilingual or multilingual. By contrast, a second language is any
language that one speaks other than one's first langue.

Second language acquisition

The second language acquisition process is similar to the process we have when we are
children. The environmental conditions are so relevant and they can affect in a positive or
negative way our learning process. We require meaningful interaction in the target
language; we need to be in frequent contact with the language in the order to develop
communicative skills necessary to communicate our message.

At the beginning of this process we need to understand that perhaps we can make a lot of
mistake, despite of that we need to continue trying and take advantage of each opportunity
we have to write, read, listen or speak in that language.
