TITLE : INTRODUCTION TO L-EDIT

A. OBJECTIVE:

1. Explore the L-Edit software

2. Learn how to draw the polygon and write the port using the L-Edit software.
3. Learn how to check the error based on design rule.

B. EQUIPMENT:

 Computer with L-Edit software

C. THEORY:

In windows, to launch L-EDIT without specifying any startup file double click icon the L-EDIT
icon. L-EDIT attempts to locate the file ledit.tdb and read it for setup information. If it is not found
in the current directory, then L-Edit searches in the directory where the executable is located. A
warning is displayed in the event ledit.tdb is not located. With or without setup information from
ledit.tdb, L-Edit startup and creates a new file (layout0) with one cell, cell0. In windows, to specify
a startup file at launch double-click the startup TDB file’s icon. Drawing with L-Edit learning to
work with a program is best accomplished with hands on experience.

D. PROCEDURE:

1. EXPLORING THE L-EDIT SOFTWARE

L-Edit Display

2. DRAWING THE POLYGON & WRITE THE PORT

Draw polygon (box)

1. Move cursor to the boxes to choose layer. See the mouse function box.

Layer poly has been Left button Right button

choosing. for for ‘MENU’
‘CHOOSE’

2. Choose any tool bar to draw the box, line, circle, triangle and the other.

Klik di sini
3. Put mouse cursor on the left layout button then it show the ‘DRAW’ function and right
layout button show the ‘SELECT’

4. Drag mouse cursor to draw the box.

5. The spacing between 2 dots (grid) is represent 1µm. To see the grid, press (+) tab or (–)
tab.
6. To see the name of layer, move cursor to any color button, at the right bottom can see
the name layer.

Draw orthogonal polygon (using ‘nibble’ icon)

1. Firstly, draw the rectangular.

2. Choose ‘nibble’ and draw the box on polygon.
3. So, part of overlap will be cut out.

Move polygon

1. Choose polygon that you want and press <Alt> at the same time move mouse to place
where to put this polygon.

Move only the polygon edge/ expand the size object

1. Purpose to outgrow or to understate polygon.

2. Presses <Ctrl> and <Alt> at the same time and pull the polygon edge to expand the size
of object.

Copy function

1. Choose polygon. Press <Ctrl C> for copy and <Ctrl V> for paste. Then click <Alt> to put
copied polygon to place anywhere.

Type port

2. If the designs have an error, repair the design base on the design rule information that shows
the width and also spacing.

E. EXERCISE

1. Draw the 2 box with length-10µm, width 3µm and spacing 1µm using the poly layer that red
button and check the error based on the design rule. Are the drawings having error? If have,
repair the drawing based on the design rule.

2. Draw the 2 bridge with spacing 2µm using metal layer and check the error based on the
design rule. Are the drawings having error? If have, repair the drawing based on the design rule.

3. Draw the rectangular with length-12µm and width-4µm using n-well layer. Rotate the
rectangular 90o left side. Also write the dimension of rectangular. Are the drawings having error?
If have, repair the drawing based on the design rule.

4. Save all the drawing before and after repair.

F. QUESTION AND TASK

1. What the function of design rule check?

2. When we use the ‘nibble’ icon?
3. What the color of n-active layer?
4. How to create one polygon with metal layer?
5. Write the conclusion that you get from this experiment.
