Narrative report of the movie The Message

The movie opens with followers of Islam went to different kingdoms in Arabia to

convince its kings to embrace Islam. In 610 AD in Mecca, every year, at the time of the

great fair, the desert priests brought their idols and the images of their gods into the

custody of Kabbaah wherein at this same day Muhammad who lived in the mountains,

in a cave for three days, appeared in the city. During his dwelling in the cave, angel

Gabriel appeared, commanded him to read, and told him that he is the messenger of

God. He told this first to his wife, his friend, Abu Bakr, and his adopted son, Zayd. After

recovering, he spread the word to the young ones which angered the merchants who

rule the city of Mecca because it goes against their belief as being Arabs, they only

obey their fathers and the children cannot be teachers. Despite the warning against him,

the word he spoke still spread which made some of the young ones turn against their

fathers. One night during their secret meetings, Muhammad, according to Allahs

commandment, told Zayd and everyone that its time to finally reveal and spread the

word of Allah publicly. Despite the people throwing stones at them, they still continued

their way to Kabbaah proclaiming that there is no god but God and the messenger of

god is Muhammad. Because of this so called rebellion, the followers of Muhammad

were punished to death including Ammars parents. The remaining followers, including

Hamza (Muhammads uncle), Zayd and Ammar, then fled to Abysinia, a Christian

country. Amr, one of the governing merchants in Mecca, followed Muhammads group

to Abysinia. In Abysinia, they are trialed wherein they have proved to Najjsar, the King
of Abysinia, that their religion is not far from Christianity, and so they were accepted.

Back to Mecca, Muhammads family was banished in the desert for 3 years.

Miraculously, when Muhammads mission seemed to have failed, his entire

situation changed. A deputation from the rich but self-destroying city of Medina met by

night at the Rock of Agaba, asking him to come to them to stand between their factions,

to mediate their continual quarrels and civil wars which Muhammad agreed provided

they would pledge to worship only one god. Muhammad then acquired the entire nation.

Threatened by Muhammads seemingly increasing power and influence, the merchants

planned to assassinate him however they failed. Muhammad has already fled. When he

arrived at Medina, a lot of people offered him their houses however, he let his camel

decide where. The camel then has chosen a spot to lie on and there Muhammads

house was built and the mosque. Bilal was then chosen as the human voice to call upon

the people. Since the cruelty of the merchants had heightened, taking their properties

and possessions, god told Muhammad to fight against them. Muhammads group won

the war and instead of killing the prisoners, they freed them and treated them equally.

After living in peace for one year, another war has come. The Meccans came to

revenge for their lost at the battle of Badr. This second war, battle of Uhud, took the life

of Hamza, who was killed by a slave whom Hind Utbah has paid. The death of Hamza

angered the army of Medina, followers of Muhammad, but was defeated. A truce was

then made between Mecca and Medina that for 10 years there would never be a war

between them. In these 10 peaceful years, Muhammad sent letters to every King in the

country there is to join with them and acknowledge Allah. Zayd, Bilal and every

followers of Muhammad, spread Islam to every nation. One night, some of the Muslims
were slaughtered. The truce was then broken and the Muslims, together with

Muhammad, armed up and made a pilgrimage towards Mecca. The Meccans,

outnumbered, could the nothing but hide. Finally, Muhammad and his followers made it

to the Mecca and into the Kabbaah.

Soon, all Arabia was converted not only to the new worship but to the new laws,

manners, attitudes contained in Islam. The Prophet had lived to see his work done, and

now he began to feel the nearness of death. One great act of his Prophet would remain

the setting of its seal. He called the people to him and spoke for the last time. His

message was to surrender to god and humanity to man, Oh, mankind! Listen well, I

may not be with you much longer. The weak among you feed them and watch what you

eat, dress them as you are dressed. You will meet your god and he will call you to count

your actions. Let those who are present warn those who are absent. You are all

descended from Adam and the best among you is he who most regards god. Think

deeply about what I say. Let all your feuds be abolished. You must know that every

Muslim is the brother of every other Muslim and all Muslims are brothers of one another.

Between Muslims, there are no races and no tribes. No must you take anything from

your brother except what is given freely. Do not oppress and do not be oppressed. O

my people, I am but a man and maybe that the angel of death will visit me soon and

death will overtake me but I have left you a book, revealed by god the Quran, which is

light and guidance. As he has perfected the religion and chose Islam as the religion of

every man, on June 8 632 on his 63rd year Muhammad died and was buried beside his

mosque in Medina. Though hes dead, the religion he preached found its place in the

heart of man where it endured and multiplied.

Reaction

The movie brings light and depicts what Islam truly is. It encapsulates how

Muhammad has established Islam amidst enormous odds, risks and sacrifices. As I

have watched the movie, I learned a lot more about the religion: about how it is more on

peace, equality, and freedom. Islam has come a long way from being one of the

oppressed religions to being the great one. Though Muhammad was never seen in the

movie, his mere presence through the lens of the camera is powerful. Muhammad is

certainly more than a prophet. Despite being illiterate, he managed to unite the waring

Arab tribes into one nation and as a result ushered in a revolutionary transformation of

Arabian society. From ignorance and darkness, the Arabs were able to see the light

and achieved a higher state of consciousness which completely changed their lives.

Furthermore, I love the fact that the movie has shown the bond that exists

between Islam and other religion; accepting and respecting each others beliefs and

how they are correlated. Indeed, Islam is more than just what is seen in the television.

This movie has portrayed how Islam changed the lives of the people and brought

enlightenment to their seemingly dark world.

The message of God with Muhammads leadership and guidance has spread all

over the world. Not only the pagan Arabs but also millions of people have found their

way of life through Islam. It has also brought meaning and purpose of their lives which

the movie The Message has captured exquisitely.
