A Semi - detailed Lesson Plan
in Mathematics III

I. Objectives
At the end of the 120-minute learning episode, the Grade III pupils will be able to:
a. ; determine line of symmetry through paper folding and reflection
b. ; to share ideas and things with friends in the paper cut and sorting activity.
c. ; create their own symmetric figures.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Symmetry
B. Integration: Arts (Origami)/ Science (Insects)
C. Approach: Discovery
D. Method: Inductive Method
E. Reference/s: Domiguez, M. U., Gayda Estevas, V., Tang, R., & Acopiado, T. (2013). Our
World of Math. Quezon City: Vibal Publishing House, Inc.
F. Materials: cut out of pictures, colored papers, scissors, strips of paper

III. Learning Activities

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Routine

2. Drill/Review

3. Motivation: The teacher will ask the pupils to look at their both hands, ears and eyes and
ask the pupils what they have notice.
4.

B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation:

Also the teacher will ask pupils to look at the mirror and describe what the pupil see.
When the pupil describe what he see;

2. Discussion

The teacher will also post different cut out of reflected image on the board and ask
the pupils on what they have observe about the pictures.
The teacher will also post another set of pictures or figure and ask the students to
divide it into equal part then the teacher will ask why it is divided into two parts.
The teacher will then tell that is called a Symmetry and ask the pupils their ideas on
what a symmetry is based on what the pupils notice about the pictures.
The teacher will present the meaning of the Symmetry and ask the pupils to tell some
equal figures in the classroom.
The teacher will show another sets of pictures and ask the students to put a strip of
paper (with a line) to divide the picture.
The teacher will ask why they divided it into two and what that line is called.
The teacher will then describe that line is called line of symmetry. Which line
divides the figure into two where one is the mirror image of the other.
The teacher will also ask the pupils on the figures that arent symmetric and what it is
called.
The teacher will tell that it is called the Asymmetrical figure.

C. Concluding Activities

1. Generalization: The teacher will show different pictures to pupils and the pupils will tell
if the pictures are symmetric or not.

2. Application:

The class will be divided into 4 groups and each group will have different color of
paper and a scissor.
Each member of the group will make one shape and cut it out.
After all the members cut their own shapes and they will fold the paper into a divided
part as many folds as they can.
The group will sort the cut shapes into two type: The symmetric shapes and the
Asymmetrical.
The group will also share their word in front of the class.

IV. Evaluation

The pupils will answer pages 308-309 on the book.

V. Assignment/Agreement

The pupils will cut out/print 5 symmetric pictures and draw the line of the symmetry.
Samples of Reflective Pictures.
