Based on the article in Student must overcome fear of speaking English written by
Amar Rifqi in The Star,2nd October 2017. I personally believe that we are currently living in
the world that requires the communicative skills in English. Speaking English is undoubtedly
one of the most important skills. In addition, English has become a worldwide language and
plays an important role in many fields of education and employment. As a student, being able
to speaking in front of other people may seem challenging enough but speaking fluently and
effectively in English is the skill that every student also want to achieve. Therefore, to defeat
the fear of speaking English among the student, there are several ways to improve the skills.

Firstly, speaking English is important issues among the student. So, we should
always using English in your daily life. I agree the fact of student tend to speak in their
mother language. Student had no problem writing in English but had issues when it came to
speaking the language. This statement is very accurate. Majority of Malaysian student fear
of making mistake when speaking English. Speaking has always been one of my greatest
weaknesses. I find it hard to produce language in English. At school, students often be
taught to memorize grammar rules and English vocabulary in order to perform English
speaking task. It make me feel more uncomfortable and fear to speak in English. Although I
understand the sentence, I was never taught how to pronounce certain English word properly
and I am sure that many student also feel the same. Moreover, lacking interaction in English
can create difficulties to speak fluently. Sometimes I often misunderstand that speaking is
basis of the process of learning. We all know it is hard to do something that out of our habit.
But it must be done.

Next, by doubling our efforts in learning English language will produce more
competitive person in future. Furthermore, English language is used by worldwide and have
become the international language while our country makes english as our second language.
English proficiency can be increase by participating in additional classes and we also by
surfing for English language learning website.

Finally, If we still having problems conversing in English, we need to find people who
encourage and support you in learning. English teacher is the most important role.
Competent English teacher will make you feel confident. From my own experience, they will
make sure you to improve in English speaking skills. Sometimes when the teachers always
correct the mistakes every time the students speak we will tend to be less confident in
speaking. However, the teacher should handle the mistakes they heard by general correction
without mentioning who made the errors.

Looking back at this topic, I think that all malaysian should fortify their english to fulfill
needs in our future because it seems necessary to prevent us trailing behind from other
country.I believe to enhance English speaking skills we need to be aware of the
communicative purpose of the language.I enjoyed very much to reading this article as it has
many valuable points that help me to be more confidence to speak english.
