What is a strength?

Your strengths stem from your talents. A talent is something you do well, and can
often do without thinking. Most talents come about naturally, and are unique to
you as a person. Generally speaking your talents are empowering and allow you
to perform to high levels of achievement.

A strength is the ability to provide consistent, near-perfect performance in a

given activity (Clifton, Anderson, & Schreiner, 2006).

To think of talents and strengths, imagine them as diamonds. Talents are

diamonds that are rough, unpolished, and may even be hidden without your
knowledge. They are natural and valuable, but not as valuable as a polished
diamond would be. Strengths are the final polished diamond; the product of the
time and effort taken to focus and develop talents.
Why is this important?

Acknowledging our strengths, and those of others, allows us to appreciate and

utilize what is right instead of focusing on what is wrong. It is fine to work on
addressing weaknesses, but your highest level of success and enjoyment will
likely come when you engage your natural talents and develop strengths. As a
leader, understanding the strengths of others can also give your valuable insight
into employee/student/group performance.
 How I utilize my Signature Themes
Theme Description
People who are especially talented in
Achiever the Learner theme have a great desire
to learn and want to continuously
improve. In particular, the process of
learning, rather than the outcome,
excites them.
People who are especially talented in
Input the Input theme have a craving to know
more. Often they like to collect and
archive all kinds of information.
People who are especially talented in
Restorative the Restorative theme are adept at
dealing with problems. They are good at
figuring out what is wrong and resolving
it.
Why its beneficial
I memorize to memory as many facts and
concepts as possible. I set a deadline and
finish projects that I start and have
endurance and dont burnout for hours.
Furthermore. I am thorough in my work
and double check my work.
I think deeply and carefully about various
issues. I pay close attention to current
events, which keeps me updated on
financial news and geopolitical news (and I
also gather information pertaining to
policy, or crises). I research until I know
everything I want to know about a
particular subject. Lastly, I enjoy adding
intricate, technical, or job-specific terms
and their definitions to my vocabulary.
I study and realize my mistakes and try to
improve. I try to eliminate my
shortcomings. I also aim to gain a working
knowledge of unfamiliar subjects and
acquire enough skill to produce acceptable
results.
How I recently used
this theme
Whether it was this class or my other
projects in my classes, I have set a
deadline to complete it in one or two
days and have met those deadlines.
Recently, I studied over 18 hours in day
with a study group and did not burn
out due to my internal drive.
I use this when I trade stocks. I play
close attention to any news or political
crises that can make the market move.
I also use input when I research a
subject until I have a deep-
understanding of the subject.
I have used this recently by working on
my weakness of impatience. I have
listened to both sides of the
conversation and have begun to
delegate my tasks.
 People who are especially talented in
Learner the Learner theme have a great desire

Intellection the Intellection theme are characterized
by their intellectual activity. They are
introspective and appreciate intellectual
discussions.
Developing and Applying Strengths in College and for PACE
I occasionally collect bits and pieces of
information. It is useful to turn to some
specialists for help. Perhaps these
individuals can provide me with enough
direction so I can ask some questions,
render a few decisions, or try to map
courses of action without upsetting
anyone in the process.
I read, write, listen to lectures,
experiment, and research topics to
broaden your understanding of them and
to gain further knowledge into the
industries or topic I am searching. Because
of my strengths, I sometimes use words,
terms, or phrases that force people to
stop and think in new ways.
An example of this is when I met with
Professor Hatch to give me more in-
depth into finance related careers and
how they differ from each other.
Just like input, I research to get an
understanding of the topic so I can be
well-versed. Currently, I am heavily
interested, research, and invest into
Biopharmas, their product, and
company.

like the one I have
obtained with Professor
Erhardt.

discourse with serious-
minded people about
issues ranging from
investments to political
debates. This has let me
listen to both ides of the
story without jumping to
conclusions.
