Course Description:
This course is an overview of security operations in hospitality environments takes the students
through practical and easy to understand methods and best practices for establishing or
improving a professional, proactive proprietary security force. The course stresses the importance
of prevention and investigation into the root causes of incidents as a tool for avoiding future
undesirable events.
This course also takes the learner through a logical and methodical process to first evaluate what
risks are inherent to hospitality environments, how to asses those risks through threat and
vulnerability assessments and methods to mitigate, eliminate or transfer them.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the students will be able to:
1. Become more aware on the methods and best practices in establishing and improving a
professional, proactive security workforce;
2. Understand how prevention and investigation into the root causes of incidents as a tool for
avoiding future undesirable events;
3. Use a logical and methodological process in evaluating risks inherent to hospitality
environments;
4. Synthesize on how to assess risks through threats and vulnerability assessments
methods;
5. Use methods to mitigate, eliminate, or transfer risks inherent to hospitality environments;
6. Utilize a positive approach in the protection of people over assets in the process of their
everyday business;
7. Understand the concept of security personnel training in guest protection management;
8. Follow the three step approach in protecting guests and property;
9. Understand the security function in protecting guests, employees and property;
10. Become aware of important security functions in protecting individual rights, the right to
privacy and the guest desire to enjoy the facilities, and its contribution to the revenue
stream;
11. Realize the importance a balanced security obligation, or duty, and provide a reasonable
care from foreseeable harm by the hotel to avoid incidents and litigations;
12. Follow a practical, reasonable, and cost effective ways to accomplish in balancing guest
enjoyment with guest protection.
