Key words: new class of turntable

Abstract: New classes of turntables able to transmit a radial load in a region from 0 to 306 degrees were
developed at SIRCA AS from Piatra Neamt – Romania. Existing turntables transmit the radial load in a
region from 0 to 180 degrees using a classical slewing ring structure. The new solution produces benefits
in turn table behaviour using a new principle of bearing working developed by SIRCA SA.

The present work discusses six new turntable classes and some derivative
construction types by using a solutions rolling bearing working principle and presents
the main 10 new classes of bearings.

1. THEORETICAL CONSIDERATIONS

At present, a large range turntable with slewing rings exists which ensure the
load transmission between two or more bearing rings, according to Hertz theory. But in
all cases a single radial load is transferred between rings and rolling elements in a
region described by an angle lower as 180 degrees.
The new working principle applied to turntable construction assures a load
distribution in a region of 0 to 360 degrees, which implies a lot of advantages regarding
the bearing life growing, the miniaturizing process, increasing rotation speeds and also
increasing external loads. Six classes of turntables in more than 50 constructive variants
have been created. A part of these variants are presented in the present work.

2. THE DESCRIPTION OF THE CONSTRUCTION SOLUTION

The main elements of the six new classes of turntable consist in the use of a
special rolling bearing with three regions which assure the inner and outer boundary of

the bearing, an intermediary ring and rows of rolling elements disposed between the
two bodies frontiers.

3. THE ADVANTAGES OF THE PROPOSED SOLUTION

The new turntable types assure the following advantages:
- assure a miniaturising process increasing the bearing behaviour. Also it reduce
the structure mass.
- offers the possibility to increase the bearing rotational speed by reducing the
centrifugal force;
- offers the possibility of cost reduction by using less material;
- there can also increase the bearing load capacity ;
- it also offers a good rigidity and assure a load distribution in a region of 0 to
360 degrees.

NOU PRINCIPIU DE FUNCTIONARE A ACESTORA

(Rezumat)

Noul principiu de transmitere a unei sarcini radiale pe o regiune descrisa de un unghi cu valori
cuprinse intre 0 si 360 de grade a permis realizarea a 5 clase noi de mese rotative. Metoda de transmitere
a sarcinii intre inelele rulmentului permite obtinerea de avantaje fucntionale si de reducere a costurilor in
cazul producerii de mese rotative.
