Unit 1 Project Reflection

On my project, my group decided to make a magazine with the newspaper form about
The Glorious Revolution which was success. However, at first my group planned to do a comic
book to explain The Glorious Revolution, but later on when the time passes, we though that it
will not completely success on time. This because in my group has only one person that good
with drawing and we think that it is too hard for her to draw all of the comic by only one person
and it will not finish on time. Therefore, we changed to make a magazine with the form of
newspaper to be more outstanding, so we used canva.com which is a very good website that
provide many templates for us to choose and be the example. Moreover, we can share our work
together, this mean I am able to share my work to my friends by email, so they can access the
email and help making the magazine as same as how google drives work when you share work
to someone. Thus, we were sure that we could finish the work before the due date with perfectly
magazine of The Glorious Revolution. According to this project, I learned to plan carefully
when I want to do something to achieve your goal. For example, I need to calculate how many
time left before the due date and also think about manage the work to the members in group
carefully that he/she will not work too hard more than his/her ability.
On unit 1 project, my group found the information about The Glorious Revolution that
people in England and Scotland didnt like the Catholic King James ll. This because he
appointed Catholics to important position in military and he didnt let anyone vote the religion
of their choice. Therefore, people invited the Protestant William lll of Orange-Nassau to take
over as king. He came to England with his wife, Queen Mary, the daughter of King James ll.
Then, he moved to France out of fear. King James was Catholic, and in Protestant country like
England would affect a big problem. This revolution happened during 1688 in the Renaissance
period and his removal didnt result to a violent military conflict, it was relatively peaceful
transition in military terms, resulting in little bloodshed. Before the Renaissance period, there
was the age of Medieval European was between the fall of the Roman Empire in the West (400
CE.) until the initiation of the Italian Renaissance (1400 CE.). Later on, the historians changed
this term to Middle Ages which is the middle between after the high civilization on the
Greeks and Romans and before the high civilization of the Renaissance which known as the
beginning of the Modern Era. The Middle ages was the age of barbarism and ignorance, of
illiteracy and violence. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the only religion recognized in the
Middle Ages was Christianity and specifically Catholicism. There were the church and
monastery which represented the religion institution which became wealth and influential
spread around during the Middle Ages. The church was also powerful international
organization to constraining the authority emperors and kings. Christianity in the Middle Ages
is the form of the lives for both peasants and the nobility. Diseases during the Medieval Period
are companion. It was mainly due to the lack of proper diet and poor hygiene. There many
common diseases such as dysentery, black plague, chicken pox, cholera, and typhoid fever.
Moreover, people be able to catch the diseases because they had small houses and had to sleep
with their pet such as sheep, cows, and horses. However, these animals can lead the diseases
and be the common source of fleas. Also, for some people are poor, they couldnt wash their
hand, took a bath, or washed their clothes frequently, so bacteria were all around them. The
black death in the 14th century caused million people died and it was derived by rat fleas living
on the black rats that bit medieval people. For the Medieval period during warfare, there was a
preparation for larger battles would planning typically consisted of a council of the war leaders,
which could either be the commander or debate with the different leaders. The decisions were
often commanded by the Church and formulated for religious rather than military reasons.
There were many major wars during this period such as The Battle of Hasting, one of the most
significant middle ages war to the subsequent changes across the English throne. Especially,
the battle had impact on English language, culture, law, and marked on the early beginnings of
the English feudalism. the feudal system is occurred when the kings granted their kingdoms to
their nobles, and they granted smaller fiefs for lesser lords, and so on. Therefore, the pyramid
of society class was built from the king downwards, to the lord of a single village. There were
also the peasants who farmed the land and had to provide their lords with labor or rent. They
were known as serfs which mean peasants who worked as slaves in those lands where they
were born. They were not allowed to do many things such as leave the lands, and marry.
However, they had the right to look to their lord for protection and justice. According to these
factors that shaped the Medieval European society, they emerged the Renaissance which was
the period after the end pf the Middle Ages. During the Middle Ages, people thought that their
lives were hard and they were thought that when grew up they had only to work and war. Later
on, around the 1300s, people in Florence, Italy began to think that they should begin to think
differently and people should study, so they learned the writings of the Greeks and the Romans
and realized that earlier civilizations had lived differently from the Middle Ages. This new way
of thinking was called Humanism. They began to learned something new such as art, music,
and science and they found that their life could be enjoyable and they could have comforts.
Moreover, this way of thinking was one of a big change for the people thought in this period
and it was the beginning many inventions and philosophers.
After finish presentation from other groups, I understand more about this unit in many
topics from other groups. For the first group that presented about the treaty of Paris, it makes
me know about the war between French and British because both of them want to expand their
territory to others land. Later, French knew that if there was a war they would lose anyway,
so they forced to give up and signed the treaty of Paris. For the group that presented about Mr.
Voltaire and Mr. Rousseau is very interesting because they made a short video. Voltaire
believed that people are born with equal worth and his writings were based on being against
absolute power, human cruelty, discrimination, war, and many more. For Mr. Rousseau, his
ideas are mostly about Noble savage and Back to Nature. Both stated that nature of human is
good, but the society degrade people; without society same as other animals, people would be
better. The next group that presented about The American Revolution was very outstanding
because they made real newspapers for everyone to understand the topic. The American
Revolution War or American War of Independence was a peace negotiation between Great
Britain and thirteen North American settlements which after the war, they announced
Independence to the United States. This group also mentioned about how John Locke and
Martin Luthur related to the American Revolution. Finally, the last group presented about John
Locke, Thomas Hobbes and American Revolution. John Lockes hypotheses have framed the
establishment of numerous essential works, including the U.S. Announcement of Independence
and Constitution. Thomas Hobbes believed that all subjects of a government had the right to
defend themselves against, and even overthrow, a government that no longer support them.
These were the foundational idea behind the Declaration of Independence and the
establishment of the United States.
