Isolde Liebherr
and Willi Liebherr

Dear guests,
We would like to welcome you most cordially to the new Liebherr stand at the 2010
Bauma. This year again the worlds largest trade fair for construction equipment is the
definitive forum for innovation and trends in this business sector.

Our presentation here in Munich always has the character of a home match. The
Bauma is a showcase for our Group, with many new items from our extensive prod-
uct programme that illustrate our performance potential.

The worldwide economic crisis has certainly not been overcome as yet. In this sit-
uation, the 2010 Bauma is a perfect opportunity to stimulate further recovery. Our
totally new presentation at this trade fair should be regarded as a sign of optimism
and of our intention to seize this opportunity.

Our presence at the Bauma also acknowledges the high esteem in which we hold the
customers and business associates who visit us from just about every country in the
world. Being our guests, we want you to feel at home, to discuss your new projects
with us and to join us in seeking optimal solutions for your needs.

You can be sure that Liebherr will remain what you have been accustomed to for many
years: a trustworthy partner for top technology, quality and service.

We wish you an interesting, successful visit to the Bauma.

There is also another important princi-

ple: as a family-business we must always
aim to be measured against the best. We
have to be among the leaders as an en-
tire business operation, not merely with
our cutting-edge technologies. The most
important objective of all is for our cus-
tomers to be satisfied. This can only be
achieved if our employees are motivated;
they are the key to our success. This is
why a good working climate is immensely
important: progress can only be achieved
by working together.

Derrick cranes are ideal for lifting very heavy loads, and are often needed
to lower cranes that have been operated on tall buildings. In Seattle, USA, a
355-mt fly-jib crane was taken out of a 36-storey office block by a Liebherr
200 DR 5/10 Litronic derrick crane. Its intelligent PLC system monitored all
crane movements until this high-level dismantling operation has been safely
completed.

The derricks swing supports can distribute the supporting forces ideally
according to the stresses the building is capable of absorbing. Since the
derrick outreach is variable up to 25 m, the heavy individual sections of the
fly-jib crane that is being removed can be lowered at a sufficient distance
from the building. Dismantled sections of the derrick can be lowered through

Travelling on crawler tracks, the 120 KR.1 is an alternative
version of the standard 120 K.1 fast-erecting crane.

used to carry fast-erecting cranes and the smaller top-slewing
cranes in the 71 to 120 mt size categories.

The 120 KR.1 is a new development that incorporates know-

how from three Liebherr product areas. The crawler track drive
comes from the HS 835 duty cycle crawler crane, the sup-
ports use technology from the mobile crane area, and the crane
superstructure and overall conception were in the hands of
Liebherrs tower crane specialists.

Night work caused no problems

An overnight work task in Munich, Germany, allowed the
MK 88 mobile construction crane to demonstrate its system
benefits. As renovation work progressed, air conditioning units
had to be lifted on to the roof of the building opposite. Fortu-
nately, this mobile construction crane is so compact that only
a single road lane had to be closed.

For a task to be completed overnight in a big city where noise

could otherwise have been a problem, the MK 88s econom-
ical and extremely quiet 48 kVA diesel generator was a genu-
ine asset, as well as making it independent of the main power
supply. The power for crane erecting and subsequent opera-
tion come either from the standard superstructure power unit
or from another source.

The MK concept also proved its worth during erecting work: the

damping and the MICROMOVE mode assisted the operator in
positioning the easily damaged loads accurately at the lowering
point. A variable-height lift cabin and lighting integrated into the
jib provided an unobstructed view of the work area.

technology gives the respective Generation 6 ma-

performance features. A characteristic element of
this system technology is the Positive Control dual-

has been designed for use on machines that have
to perform overlapping working movements for a
large proportion of their operating time.

To satisfy varying market needs and customer requirements, each of the three
new crawler excavators models the R 906, R 916 and R 926 is available in

Duty cycle crawler crane
maritime duties
At the 2010 Bauma the largest model in Liebherrs range of duty cycle
crawler cranes, the HS 895 HD, is on display as a complete version for
maritime duties.

The equipment packages includes a Negrini hydraulic orange peel grab with
a capacity of 6 cu. m, matched carefully to the basic machine and rated for
materials with a density of up to 2.6 t / cu. m. With this configuration, loads
with a total weight of up to 25 t can be moved or positioned within a
maximum working radius of 22 m. Dredging tasks down to a water depth of
40 m are also possible.

The hydraulic concept is matched to the basic machine, grab and hose drum,
for a rapid grab opening and closing action. The hydraulically actuated grab
arms alter their position according to the shape of the load; this makes work
more efficient than would be possible with a mechanical grab.

For optimal control when picking up and setting down stone blocks, the hoist-
ing and drag winches can be run at the same time. The two winches, each with
35 t line pull, make it much easier to perform tasks needing precision move-
ment control. Safety factors have also been given close attention: a gate mech-
anism mounted on the grab ensures that it is locked automatically if there is
a loss of hydraulic pressure.

Red-hot slag
Material at a very high temperature has to be handled when
removing slag from the firewells of blast furnaces. Crawler load-
ers are the ideal choice for tasks of this kind in steel mills, pro-
vided that they also possess the necessary manoeuvrability,
since space is often extremely limited.

To match these requirements, Liebherrs LR 624 STM and

LR 634 STM steel mill crawler loaders have a special equip-

Another technical step forward is the new Liebherr drive system with IGBT fre-

Liebherr. Together with the Liebherr regulating system, the liquid-cooled IGBT
power modules optimise control of the traction motors. The frequency invert-

consumption can therefore be optimised. The only deciding factor is the
performance called for in any particular application.

Successful large cranee operation in

The Bracht crane services company was faced
with a challenging task at the Sasol chemical plant
in Moers, Germany: to lift an absorber column
35 m high weighing 128 t over a steel structure
and position it ready for installation.

To make matters worse, there were several over-

head pipes near the working site, so that access
for a large mobile crane was extremely limited. The
decision was obvious: a job for the flagship of the
Liebherr mobile crane programme, the nine-axle
LTM 11200-9.1.

To use a crane with a lattice boom would have

meant dismantling several of the overhead pipe
bridges, or erecting a the crane above them. To
avoid all this, the LTM 11200-9.1, currently the
most powerful telescopic-boom crane on the
market, was despatched to the Sasol refinery.

A day was devoted to setting up the crane with Working in tandem:

and the maximum ballast weight of 202 t placed
in position. The absorber column was then lift-
ed off the transport vehicles and positioned ver-
tically in a tandem lift operation also involving an
LTM 1400-7.1 crane.

After this, the job was almost a matter of routine

for the crane operator: from the cabin, he direct-
ed the crane and its load in slow motion past the
existing steelwork, and within a matter of minutes
the giant column had reached its final position and
was ready to install.

The LTM 11200-9.1 can be driven on public roads

at a gross weight of 108 t, including all four outrig-

with both winches. The telescopic boom is car-
ried on a separate road vehicle.

LTR 1060 New 60-t model

Telescopic-boom
crawler crane Liebherr has added the LTR 1060 to its tele-
scopic-boom crawler crane programme. With a
40-m long boom, this 60-t machine outperforms
telescopic-boom crawler cranes currently availa-
ble in this size category in both load capacity and
boom length. Boom technology and a suitably
optimised crane control system permit the boom
to be telescoped with a high suspended load, a
movement that of course cannot be performed by
a lattice-boom crane.

The LTR 1060s crawler-track undercarriage per-

forms excellently over rough terrain and remains
easily manoeuvrable. The crane can travel with the
full rated load on the hook. The telescopic boom
is run out to the necessary length rapidly and en-
tirely automatically. Since a crawler crane needs
no outrigger supports, it can move rapidly from
place to place in the construction site and start
work again without delay.

The design and construction of this new tele-

scopic-boom crawler crane makes it ideal for the
installation of prefabricated elements.

Compact twelve-cylinder engine

With a power output of up to 750 kW (1020 hp) the
new D9512 V12 diesel extends the performance
range of Liebherrs diesel engines. Developed to
satisfy the toughest practical demands in the con-
struction industry, it is a compact unit notable for
its high torque and low fuel consumption. Trials in
mining excavators and duty cycle crawler cranes
and on pile driving and drilling rigs have already
been concluded successfully.

An intelligent electronic concept combined with

the latest fuel injection and exhaust gas recircu-
lation technologies ensures compliance with the
EPA Tier 2 emission limits currently required for
this engine category, and is also a sound basis on
which future requirements can be satisfied.

The new twelve-cylinder engine achieves its

smooth running and minimum torque fluctuations
by means of an exceptionally rigid cylinder block
and by systematic decoupling and insulation of
components, with the result that vibration and
V12 engine
noise levels are exceptionally low.

Innovative energy regeneration

installed to act as an energy store. Together with
the hoisting rams it forms an energy regenera-
tion system that distinctly improves the machines
overall efficiency. The principle is straightforward:
as the power hydraulic equipment is lowered, the
gas in the energy storage cylinder is compressed.
When a load is next lifted, the energy stored in the
gas cylinder supports the lifting rams, which then
only have to contribute a lower proportion of the
total force.

This in turn enables smaller diesel engines and

hydraulic rams to be specified, with a correspond-
ing reduction in fuel consumption and therefore in
pollutant and noise emissions.

Of modular element construction, the Liebherr machine control system has
been designed for safety-relevant applications. It ensures that even when
