Article summary

Donnell Whittenburg had a dream of being in the Olympic games competing in

gymnastics but ended up being an alternate. He did not want to become discouraged
so he continued to work hard so he could prove that he was better than just an
alternate and wanted to earn a spot in the next Olympics. Whittenburg did a skill on
the rings that had never been done before and it potentially could be named after
him. He needed to perform that skill at an international competition and land it on
his feet for the skill to be named after him. He decided he did not want to risk being
selected for the Olympics so he did his usual dismount in the qualification round but
during the event finals he was going to perform The Whittenburg. He did it, and in
early June it was officially called The Whittenburg.
