Creative Writing Techniques : Learners Success Stories

Abstract: This paper is about the creative writing skill, techniques, learners success stories of

creative writing. The text is collected from different sources like articles, web addresses and

other materials from internet. The techniques of improving creative writing have been taken from

an article of Oxford Royale Academy. Again, the learners success story is taken from the web

page of Idea Store Learner. Finally, some opinion has been added to the paper.

Introduction: Creative Writing Techniques

Creative Writing is the reflection of a creative thought. It can be also defined as the creativity

flourished in writing. Creative writing includes poetry, prose, fiction, non-fiction, the short

short, the memoir, literary journalism, personal essays, different articles etc. In academia,

students have to write essays in which their creativity appears. In corporal offices, some kinds of

creative writing like articles reveal the creativity of the employees. So creative writing skill is

very important for both students and professionals.

According to a learner named Idrees Patel, The skills one need to mater to improve creative

writing are talent, persistence, patience, ability to face criticism, imagination and technical

ability.

Techniques to improve creative writing skills:

To improve the creative writing skill, there are some techniques to be mentioned. From a article

of Oxford Royale Academy, seven techniques of improving creative writing can be learnt. The

techniques are:

1.Thinking about the reader: Writers have to target the readers. They should know for whom

their writings are established. The writings should be appropriate according to the readers. The

writings for youth, senior citizen, kids are not the same. Again, the academic writings are quite

different as they are provided by teachers and lecturers.

2.Three-act structure: This structure is mainly followed in modern writings such as film and

dramas. It includes set-up, confrontation and resolution. Set-up refers to the introduction;

confrontation refers to the discussion of problems surrounding the selected topic and the

development of argument with various evidence; resolution refers to the conclusion.

3.An attention-grabbing opening: The opening of writing must be able to grab the attention of the

readers so that they feel curious and interest to read the whole writing. Writers may use

flashback and images for this task.

4.Extended metaphors: The use of extended metaphors in writing makes the writing more

attractive. For example, when Shakespeare wrote the passage in Romeo and Juliet referring to

It is the East, and Juliet is the sun! he was using an extended metaphor.

5.Interesting detail about setting and location: A nice way of keeping the readers interested till

the end of the writing and bringing life to the writing is to include interesting detail about setting

and location. It also gives some amusing information about the setting of writing.

6.Editing: Editing is effective for writers to find out their faults and lacking in writing. It helps to

correct the spelling and grammatical mistakes which may be skipped unintentionally while

writing. It also observes whether the writing makes any sense or not. It helps the writers to

improve their writings.

7.And finally, recording the ideas: Recording the ideas means taking notes of what the writers

get with the passage of time. Information is upgraded always day by day. Taking a note of them

is a great use to the writers for the gradual development of writing.

These techniques can be effective for improving creative writing skill if they are followed in a

proper way. As nothing is certain, the techniques are being upgraded day by day according to the

need of modern era. This procedure will continue successively.

Learners Success Story:
