From an article of Geoffrey James, 21 tips to make effective presentation :

1.Building a story: A presenter should tell a story to make the audiences more attentive to the

presentation.

2.Keeping it relevant: The stories shared with the audiences must be relevant to the ideas and

topic of the presentation.

3.Cutting introduction: A presenter should make the introduction part brief so that the audiences

do not get bored.

4.Beginning with an eye-opener: A good presenter begins his presentation with an attracting

sentence.

5.Keeping it short and sweet: A good presentation is always short and sweet. The messages

should be reached to the audiences clearly.

6.Using facts, not generalities: Presenting using some facts that are quantifiable, verifiable,

memorable and dramatic is really an effective quality.

7.Customizing for every audience: One should customize the presentation for all kinds of

audience. Every audience is different. So customizing presentation for all of them is necessary.

8.Simplify graphics: Using weird graphics in the presentation leads a presentation to an

unpleasant and irritating one.

9.Keeping backgrounds in the background: The background should be simple and of neutral

color.

10.Using readable fonts: The fonts should be like that every audience can see the slides.

11.Not getting too fancy: Simple presentation is better than a fancy one.

12.Checking equipmentin advance: Before giving a presentation, all the equipments like

sound- systems, projectors should be checked well.

13.Speaking to the audience: A presenter should speak to the audiences directly.

14.Not reading from slides: One should not read from the slides. He should tell something about

the relevant topic from his own point of view.

15.Not skipping around: Skipping around slides is bad while presenting. That makes the

audience lose their attention from the presentation.

16.Leaving humor to the professionals: Humor makes the presentation more interesting. The

audience become more interested and attentive.

17.Avoiding obvious wormholes: The acts should be avoided that irritate the audiences. The

gesture and posture of a presenter should not be bothering to the audiences.

18.Skipping the jargon: Business buzzwords should be cut off the presentation. That makes the

audience feel nonsense about the presenter.

19.Making it timely: The awkward timing should be avoided to give a presentation. The

awkward timing means before or immediately after meal.
