Electrostatics Problem

Purpose
The purpose of this problem is to compute the value of electric field and of
electric potential for points around and inside three capacitors and to see their
interaction (influence).
The problem proposed is solved in QuickField.

The problem:
Consider the following figure:

There are three capacitors

C1(in the middle), C2(left) and
C3(right).

Starting values:
- a square surface of radius 20
cm, with the relative
permeability =1
- the plates of C1 are 10 cm
long, q1=+5 C respectively
q1=-5 C
- the plates of C2 are 4cm in
length, half inside the C1
capacitor and half outside.
The charge q2= +-4 C
- the plates of C3 are 4cm in
length, half inside the C1
capacitor and half outside.
The charge q2= +-3 C

C1: - upper plate positive charge

- lower plate negative charge
C2: - upper plate negative charge
- lower plate positive charge
C3: - upper plate positive charge
- lower plate negative charge

s1=1; s2=3; s22=2; s3=3; s33=4; s4=6; s44=3

Charge test

For this test we have two situations:

1) The charge of C1 capacitor was changed: +0.01 C (positive plate), -0.01 C
(negative plate)

The electric field strength is greater in the

dielectric of C2 and C3 capacitors. The charge
is low in C1, direct proportional to it's influence.

2) The charge of C1 capacitor was changed: +100 C (positive plate), -100 C

(negative plate)

When the charge is increased, it influences both the electric

field strength and potential, more specific their directions
and values. In this case, the strength generated by the dielectric
of C1 is greater than the charge of C2 and C3.

Permittivity test

Situation 1: The permittivity of the positive dielectric is 100,

the charge returns to the initial values.
The result is that the positive plate loses it's influence
The permittivity of the negative dielectric is 1
and it maintains it's influence.

Situation2: The permittivity of the positive dielectric is 20, twice as big as the
permittivity of negative dielectric. The influence of the second dielectric is
bigger.

a) Test1
The spacing is 4.5
The result is that we obtain a mesh with 54 nodes

8 points have been chosen:

P(-5;-0.5) in the negative dielectric of C2
P(-5;0.5) in the positive dielectric of C2
P(5;-0.5) in the positive dielectric of C3
P(5;0.5) in the negative dielectric of C3
P(0.5;-3.5) in the negative dielectric of C1
P(0.5;3.5) in the positive dielectric of C1
P(0.5;8.5) in the upper part of the figure
P(0.5;-9) in the lower part of the figure

The strength vectors are spread radial

In the dielectric region they have the
direction perpendicular to the plates,
from the positive plate to the negative
one.

b) Test2
The spacing is 2.2
The result is that we obtain a mesh with 125 nodes

c) Test3
The spacing is 1.5
The result is that we obtain a mesh with 224 nodes
The most accurate measurements are done using the finest mesh
