What I notice
The teacher has students warm up with
Daily Math. They have some problems
to do for each day and then hand it in on
Friday.
Students have a math workbook that
they can work in during free time.
Students were just completing practice
multiplication word problems in their
math notebooks.
Student desks are organized into groups
of 2. There are 10 groups of desks with 2
desks per group.
This allows for student collaboration and
also makes it easier for students to
complete work independently.
The teacher had word problems
projected on the screen.
Students were given time to complete
the problems.
The teacher had students read the word
problems and then show their work on
the board.
The teacher corrected any mistakes, but
had the student be the one who actually
fixed the mistake.
The teacher would guide the student to
the right answer if they got it wrong.
Students were given an exit ticket that
was collected as they walked out.

Classes
I was surprised with how many problems
the students completed in one class.
I wonder if they ever do more hands on
activities or if it is always similar to
worksheets.
I was surprised that desks were grouped
by 2. This allowed everyone to have a
good view of the board.
I wonder why they have a math
workbook on top of the work they do in
class and the homework they get.
This connects to my math methods class
because I actually saw students
completing and handing in an exit ticket.
I wonder what the teacher does when
looking at or grading the exit ticket.
I wonder if the teacher has class similar
to this every day. This would get boring
for students very quickly.
I like that the teacher allowed the
student to correct his or her own
mistakes.
I like that the teacher guided the student
when they couldnt figure out their error.
I think this could harm some students
self-esteem because they may get
embarrassed in front of the class.
