RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND SELF

DISCLOSURE IN ODHA AT BANYUMAS REGENCY

ABSTRACT

Background : Most of People with HIV-AIDS (ODHA) live with bad stigma from society. Some of
them try to hide their disease and decide to be alone and do not want to get medical treatment.
Emotional Intellegence is the cability had by someone to control his/her emotion, to know his/her own
self personalities, so then she/he is able to make a good relationship with lot of people. Meanwhile,
self disclosure is an ability of someone willing to share information, idea, fantasy, even the
confidential thing to anybody else. People with HIV-AIDS (ODHA) need emotional intelligence to
deal with every single problem that they face. People with HIV-AIDS (ODHA) having a good
emotional intelligence will have a good self disclosure as well. So, they will be more open to their
family or even society. People with HIV-AIDS having a good emotional intelegence and self
disclosure tend to be more cooperative with doctor. As a result, they have an effort to survive, then
their survival rate of life will increase.
Objective : To know the relationship between emotional intellegence and self disclosure in ODHA at
Banyumas Regency
Methods: This research is a non-experimental research with a cross sectional research design. The
subject or sample is someone who has already been diagnosed by the doctor having HIV-AIDS
postive and joining Sehat Peduli Kasih Foundation. We need 32 ODHA who join Sehat Peduli
Kasih Foundation. Data colection uses two kinds of quisioner consisting of emotional intellegence
and self disclosure matters.
Result : From the analysis that has been done using product moment pearson correlation obtained the value of P
value 0,000 (P = 0.05) with the result of 0.642 means Ho is rejected and H1 accepted which means there is a
relationship between emotional intelligence and self-disclosure in people with HIV-AIDS Banyumas Regency.
Conclusion : There is a relationship between emotional intelligence and self disclosure in people with
HIV-AIDS (ODHA) at regional Banyumas.
