Lesson Plan

Audience

Ten freshman students. The average age is 22.

Background

Some of theme with French background such as francophone parents; other with zero or little

contact with French. They all feel interest for the language and want to learn it

Course Objective

Students will be able to talk about theyre origins and nationalities as well as give personal
information such as: age, telephone number and
address. All in the target language.

Cultural Objectives: Students will be able to situate the countries on the map, give some facts

about the countries and say their names in the target language.

Linguistic Objectives: Use the expression venir de + pays , learn the names of the countries,

learn the nationalities, practice the colors.

Class duration: 50 mins.

Anticipatory Set: I will open the lesson with this question: O sommes nous?.
This part of the lesson: I will talk about my own origin in order to set an example of what I
expect them to do.
Teaching:

Input

Power Points and a game will be played.

Checking for Understanding

Always ask if everythings clear, before going to the next point. Ask if the explanation

was clear enough.

Materials: One object that represents their family and/or origins.


Guided Practice:
Each student is going to stand in front of their peers and answer to the teachers questions about

origins and personal information in the target language.

Closure:

1. Make a summary of what they just learned by asking them.

2. Ask them some random questions related to the items they just summarized.

3. Remind them about the activities they have to complete on connect so they can reinforce.

Independent Practice: Complete the activities indicated on connect. They have to print

their results and we will discuss the mistakes next class.

Detailed procedure:

11:15-11:25 Introduction to country names and nationalities.

11:25-11:30 Explanation about articles that need to accompany the name of the country,

exceptions.

11:30-11:40 Explain to students the question Quel est ton origine? CestQuelle est ta

nationalit? Ask the question to several students and see if they can answer correctly to the

question. Asking students will help determine if they understood what have been explained.

11:40-11:50 Give personal information.

11:50-12:00 Ask for personal information.

12:00-12:05 Wrap-up and homework.

Anticipate Problems and Solutions

1. This class will require the use of a computer and access to the internet. In case theres a

problem with the technology have the printed power points in order to be able to present

the lesson on the board without major concerns.


2. Time issues will be addressed by taking time from the games or review activities if I fall

short of time, conversely, if I finish the lesson explanation before the scheduled time, the

extra time will be employed to address students questions or to start a discussion

concerning French culture. Students will be encouraged to express in the target language.

Corrections

According to my peer feedback:

My original lesson plan didnt have a detailed procedure section. Developing it made me

more self conscious about time and helped me administrate it in a more effective way.
