MECANICA DE FLUIDOS I.- TRABAJO PRACTICO 2.

- RESOLUCION DE PROBLEMAS

PROBLEMA 1. Two rivers merge to form a larger river as shown in Fig. P1. At a
location downstream from the junction 1before the two streams completely merge2,
the no uniform velocity profile is as shown and the depth is 6 ft. Determine the value
of V.
PROBLEMA 2. Air discharges from a 2in.-diameter nozzle and strikes a curved vane,
which is in a vertical plane as shown in Fig. P3. A stagnation tube connected to a
water U-tube manometer is located in the free air jet. Determine the horizontal Fig. P1
component of the force that the air jet exerts on the vane. Neglect the weight of the
air and all friction.
PROBLEMA 3. A 20C water jet strikes a vane mounted on a tank with frictionless
wheels, as in Fig. P5. The jet turns and falls into the tank without spilling out. If =30,
evaluate the horizontal force F required to hold the tank stationary.
PROBLEMA 4. When a jet strikes an inclined fixed plate, as in Fig. P6, it breaks
into two jets at 2 and 3 of equal velocity V = Vjet but unequal fluxes Q at 2 and
(1 -)Q at section 3, being a fraction. The reason is that for frictionless flow
the fluid can exert no tangential force F t on the plate. The condition Ft = 0
enables us to solve for . Perform this analysis, and find as a function of the
plate angle . Why doesnt the answer depend on the properties of the jet?
PROBLEMA 5.- Five liters/s of water enter the rotor shown in Fig. P4 along the Fig. P2
axis of rotation. The cross-sectional area of each of the three nozzle exits
normal to the relative velocity is 18 mm2. How large is the resisting torque
required to hold the rotor stationary? How fast will the rotor spin
steadily if the resisting torque is reduced to zero and (a) = 0, (b)
=30, (c) =60?
PROBLEMA 6. Water is pumped from the tank shown in Fig. P6a. The
head loss is known to be 1.2V2/2g. where V is the average velocity in
the pipe. According to the pump manufacturer, the relationship
between the pump head and the flow rate is as shown in Fig. P6b:
hp=20-200Q2, where hp is in meters and Q is in m3/s. Determine the
flow rate, Q.

PROBLEMA 7. The pumper truck shown in Fig. P7 is to deliver 1.5 ft3/s
to a maximum elevation of 60 ft above the hydrant. The pressure at
the 4-in. diameter outlet of the hydrant is 10 psi. If head losses are negligibly
small, determine the power that the pump must add to the water.
